Re: MLB 12 The Show - All Hitting Tips

I have been playing MLB 12 the show for a while now. I first started with using guess pitch (default) and am now branching away from that. My main concern is I am wondering what hitting setting I should use (Analog, pure analog, timing, zone) I have used all them and none have worked great but I definitely like zone and timing better. Also I was wondering if I should guess pitch or not? Lastly I was wondering where I should keep the circle thing when I am batting? I usually keep it in middle of strike zone.

Ps- I play online alot and my psn is hoopa5

Re: MLB 12 The Show - All Hitting Tips

I find myself thinking too much. Maybe reading too much into hitting as a whole.

That kind of thinking put me in a hellacious slump where every ball i hit was a grounder or i struck out, either too late or far too early. I could hit in this game until my braincramp.

I worked out that braincramp by going through BP religiously. All the various options at least 4 times through, an hour each day for 3 days. Told myself to not play an organized game until i felt confident. It pays off people. Hit the cages. When you feel it clicking again it's amazing.

I just re-trained myself to follow the ball. It's all good now.

I also am wondering how do you guys track or follow the ball... Many people say they stare at a spot in centerfield, and others say they watch the pitchers glove. What is the best way to track the pitch?

Picking up the release point is the most important part for me. The sooner you see the ball, the longer you can see the ball.

Ok so just pick up the ball from the pitchers release as fast as possible... Do you focus on anything else (center field), or do you watch the pitchers whole wind up?

So when I'm playing a regular game, non rtts, it takes me about 10-15 pitches to figure out the timing of the pitchers wind-up and release point. Some deliveries are easier than others to see, I have a lot of trouble with the side arm and and submarine deliveries. There is also the difference between the wind-up and stretch deliveries, so patience in the beginning is key to getting your timing down with each pitcher. I'll usually watch the the pitchers entire body, and when he brings the ball back behind him I will shift my focus to his release point. And once I pick up his release point, I will try to find a reference point for that pitcher. Some backdrops have spots that you can look at and know the ball is coming out from that spot. Such as Pittsburgh's park, they have the word Pirates cut into the grass right behind the pitcher. So if the pitchers release point is right above the R, I have a point I can shift my focus to every time when they release the ball. Rtts is a little more tricky, as the amount of at bats is more limited. Hope this helps.

Re: MLB 12 The Show - All Hitting Tips

I use more of a rythmic approach. I will typically always take pitches until the pitcher gets one over, and follow it down my lineup. Also taking pitches early, allows you to layoff of some close pitches you would swing at and hit weakly.

The goal is to put the count in the favor of the hitter. 2-0, 2-1, something where you know the pitcher has to come to you on. Also, it makes stealing bases easier, cause you can predict when the pitcher is ahead, that they'll be coming with something offspeed.

Rhythmic, I mean like drop the cursor, or move it slightly during the pitchers release. Makes it easier for me to get the timing down.

I switched up to a new TV and god save me, I can't hit a lick at all lol. Maybe I'm psyching myself out but my plate discipline is gone out the window as well as my timing. I am in a slump plain and simple. Anyu advice how to "dumb it down" and get down to basics? I've tried the cage, exhibition and I have a braincramp like you cannot believe

Re: MLB 12 The Show - All Hitting Tips

learn to strike out looking when you don't have runners in scoring position and there are 2 outs.(non-clutch situtations with weak hitters but no more than a few times but enough that your opponent will take note so that later on in a bases loaded situation or with RISP your opponent will feel comfortable laying in a strike on full count or 2-2 count. or even a 1-2. in addition a pitch on the black might get called a ball.

take the first pitch 90% of the time. LOL put the controller down.

if you have a runner on 1st base with 2 outs and you don't have a particularly powerful hitter at the plate. try to get it to a full count and this way you can send your runner and possibly drive him in with a double or even a bloop single if the guy on 1st base is really fast.

when down on 2 strikes protect the outside of the plate and react to the inside. some power hitters can hit homeruns with contact so rarely should you never be using anything other than contact when down in the count.

personally i do use power swing on full counts but don't always swing unless its a breaking pitch in the zone as i notice some players pci gets bigger on breaking pitches. if you think you are gonna get a fastball contact is good enough as the harder they throw it the farther it goes.

learn to hit a high fastball. be prepared to hit it each and every pitch. like dave campbell or eric say. get ready for fastball and react to the breaking pitch....

hope this helps. this is more for ONLINE play

I love the game, but have a heck of a time hitting anything up in the strikezone. Usually I foul off pitch after pitch after pitch. I've tried the analog timing and I just cannot get the hang of it, so I use the timing mode exclusively.

I generally use the pitcher full camera view except when a left-handed pitcher is pitching to a left-handed hitter. Then I use a custom angle: behind and above the pitcher's left shoulder. The game seems to delight in making pitches that are impossible not to foul off.

Oh, and the Vulcan changeup... I can barely hit it.

Any help would be appreciated. I've come close to chucking the PS3 through the television a few times.

I noticed that too. When I use my 32 inch TV I do so much better than when I play on my 52 inch TV. Maybe because the TV is bigger and therefore the strikezone is bigger. But hitting is so hard for me, especially on my 52 inch. I am playing on veteran and got shutout 2 games in a row. Off to an 8-12 start

Update - Even on the game setting on my 52 inch bravia I was getting worn out by the CPU. My offense was awful and inconsistent. Last in the league in batting avg, off to a 13-20 start on veteran.

I noticed I was having a much easier time hitting on my 32 inch. Went back to my 32 inch today, first game on it lit up the CPU, scored 8 runs. Started off down 7-0 in the 2nd, Pineda got lit up. Came all the way back, tied the game up and hit a walk off in the 9th with Crawford.

Also, 1st good game I had with Matt Kemp. 4-4 with 2 HRS and Crawford had 2 HRs in the game as well.

On my 52 inch I couldn't put up numbers like those with those guys in a 4 game span. Actually on my 52 inch Kemp was on like a 2 week homerless drought. Went to my 32 inch and he hits 2 in a game. Through 33 games Kemp has 9 HRs and pretty sure I hit about 7 or 8 of those on my 32 inch.

There is definitely something going on timing wise with bigger TVs. For me it is like night and day hitting on my 52 inch and 32 inch with the same exact settings and everything. Wondering if anybody else has noticed this?

Through 53 games now I am 23-30. I am on the verge of giving up this game. I have put in so much time and I can't hit anything besides fastballs. Have the worst team BA in the lg at about .226. Not a single guy on my team is hitting over .300. Only 2 guys hitting over .250. Kemp is hitting .288 leads the league in HRs with 18 and has about 18 SBs also. Hosmer is batting in the .260s thats it. I am playing on veteran and the hitting is just ridiculous. I have played the show since PS2 and never remember hitting being this hard. Have also always used guess pitch classic 1/4 because since it was default on ps2 on 06-08 the show I have always reverted back to it. I always guess inside fastball, so I am prepared for offspeed and I still can't hit it. Only time I get offspeed pitches for hits is when I guess the location and they are middle in. It really is impossible to hit. Might just give up and take a break from videogames.
