Not a single guy on my team is hitting over .300. Only 2 guys hitting over .250. Kemp is hitting .288 leads the league in HRs with 18 and has about 18 SBs also. Hosmer is batting in the .260s thats it. I am playing on veteran and the hitting is just ridiculous. I have played the show since PS2 and never remember hitting being this hard. Have also always used guess pitch classic 1/4 because since it was default on ps2 on 06-08 the show I have always reverted back to it. I always guess inside fastball, so I am prepared for offspeed and I still can't hit it. Only time I get offspeed pitches for hits is when I guess the location and they are middle in. It really is impossible to hit. Might just give up and take a break from videogames.
Dont give up! I was at the point of giving up and am so glad I did not. Here are a few things to help you out.

    1. Change the sliders if you want to make it easy. Put human power all the way up, human contact, and solid hits, and if you have trouble recognizing pitches you can change the pitcher strike frequency all the way up too. I did this and go 4-4 and 2-4 every game!

    2. Next is go into practice mode. Work on hitting and eventually you will get it.

    3. This one is also very important, I had this problem. Your tv may be too big and is causing lag. So the pitch looks alot faster then it really is. There are 2 things you can do to solve this... You can get a new TV and hook up your ps3 to that or you can do something in the settings of your tv. I believe they have a forum on here for that.

    4. I do not use guess pitch. The reason is because once you start using it you rely on it too much. But if I had to use it I would use classic 1/4 r default and guess fastball low. The reason is because most pitches are coming to the bottom part of the plate, and when he doesnt it will probably be down the middle.

I had the same problem an I switched to a smaller tv. I struggled so badly on the large tv and when I went to the small one I could lay off almost every ball and hit every strike. Its not your fault, the reason your struggling is because it is lagging. It may not look like it, but if you switched to a smaller tv you would see how much easier it is. You can fix this in 2 ways... Change a thing in settings on your tv I believe they have a forum on here for it, or you can hook up your ps3 to a smalle tv.

        Enjoy!!!

Thanks for the tips. I have been switching back and forth between my 32 inch and 52 inch. For the most part I haven't noticed much of a difference. I'm playing a franchise and I did a fantasy draft with the Red Sox. You might be making a good point about guessing low because I can't get to low pitches like ever especially low fastballs. But then that leaves me susceptible to inside pitches which are the pitches I usually crush.

Both tvs are good size. Maybe stick with the 32 inch. Try my tips out and tell me how you like them... Otherwise you can just do it your way if you dont like them. And another thing is when your trainig watch the spin on the ball. Curveball kinda go up when being released, and fastballs come straight out... Youll get the hang of it!!

JESUS, I was struggling to hit, so I saw this post with tips on how to get better and I started using one of those tips. NEVER GUESS THE PITCH. I didn't do it and I just had my best hitting game so far with 18 hits against the Reds. Austin Jackson was 4 for 5 as well as Infante. Fielder got a two RBI Home Run of course
              It was crazy.
              My teams:

Soccer (It's football, not soccer!!): SL Benfica
Baseball: Oakland A's/ San Francisco Giants
              Football: San Francisco 49ers

Re: MLB 12 The Show - All Hitting Tips

One thing that makes it difficult is the way every pitcher can place pitches perfectly on the corners, low and high outside corners are almost impossible to do anything with, but then you'll watch the computer hit low outside pitches the opposite way with ease. Gets really frustrating. If it's in the strike zone it can be hit well by MLB hitters a lot of the time. Especially with perfect contact and timing.

Just like how Dee Gordan can place perfect bunts and beat every infield hit out when Im playing him but when Im hitting with him he's not as fast. Or like how computer pitchers can speed to any infield tapper and fire immediately to first but my pitchers are slow and delayed.

Fighting an uphill battle in the game.

Re: MLB 12 The Show - All Hitting Tips

So I've played the first three months of my season (I play every game, one year of franchise takes me like a full year) on Hall of Fame hitting and Legend for pitching. I am somewhere around 10 games over .500 and it's been the pitching that has carried me. I'm dead last in team batting average (Red Sox btw).

Here's the deal; I consider myself a good, patient hitter. I take pitches and work long at bats to get into the other team's bullpen as soon as I can. I swing at good pitches to swing at and often make solid contact with great timing. Inside pitches I pull and outside pitches are back up the middle or to the opposite field. So how am I not getting the results? I recently went to All Star hitting and now I rake and average like 8 to 9 runs a game. Too easy now. On Hall of Fame, most of my outs were rockets right at well positioned fielders. So, why such a drastic change between skill levels? My approach is the same but I get more outs on Hall of Fame (as expected, I guess).

The only conclusion that I've come to so far is that there needs to be a little bit better hit variety and the pitcher's confidence has too much influence on the outcome of my swing. Actually, does anyone know how much influence the pitcher's confidence has on the outcome of a ball hit into play? In my opinion, it shouldn't have any. If you hang a change up over the middle, it shouldn't miss my barrel because he's confident with the change up. Pitch confidence should only allow the pitcher to better locate that pitch, and maybe that's how it works, but with my experience it seems to have a great deal of influence on the outcome.

...I don't know.. maybe someone here knows about what goes into the outcome of a batted ball. I may have to tinker with some sliders though.

Hitting has become a chore with this years version. Too much work. Missing the fun factor, for me of course. Not speaking for anyone else.

Re: MLB 12 The Show - All Hitting Tips

I have so much trouble hitting against certain pitchers and in certain parks. Zach Greinke is such a pain to hit against. The fastball comes in hot at around 97, and if you gear up for the fastball, he might throw is 80 MPH changeup. If it seems like it's coming in straight, the ball will suddenly turn right and go out of the zone on a 85 MPH slider. I had to face him 3 times. Struck out 15 times the 1st, 13 times the 2nd and 12 the 3rd. It's not like I suck batting, because when i got Greinke out I went on a tear and got 8 runs the next inning. Any tips on hitting against a nasty slider?

On a different hand, I seem to always have success against King Felix and C.C Sabathia. Strange, because they have nasty stuff in real life but yet are easy to beat up in the show.

Re: MLB 12 The Show - All Hitting Tips

Hitting isn't all that tough on me, granted I've been playing The Show since PS2 but I'm going to share some tips that help a LOT in the 2012 version... My current RTTS guy is a hall of famer, batting .485 with 23HR and 52RBI in 26 games. All my hitting attributes are 98 or 99, veteran difficulty, human contact and power are maxed or within one-two notches of being maxed. Pitch speed is one notch below normal, strike frequency is one notch above normal. BTW, I'm still using classic controls, I have for over 10 years and refuse to change now.

1)I use regular swing (X) primarily, like 85% of the time. Contact swing and Power swing have limited usefulness. E.g. I only use contact swing with 2 strikes and when I'm desperate to move a runner over.

2)Power swing should ONLY be used when you've guessed the pitch and location or it's a total hanger. If you try to hit something right on the edge of the zone with Power swing, you'll get nothing.

3)WORK THE COUNT. This game secretly rewards you taking balls, I'd practically bet everything I have on it. The only exception to this is a first-pitch meatball, use Power swing and it may go out.

4)Get familiar with the pitches the SP uses before you start an at bat. Check out their speeds and mentally repeat it to yourself.

5)If you use Guess-Pitch, primarily use fastball but do not always do so. You have to guess based on the pitchers confidence etc. E.g. if it's a 3-1 count with the bases loaded and a pitcher has 4 pitches but only 1 with any confidence, guess that and wait on it.

6)If you guess the wrong pitch, ONLY swing if it's a meatball or hanger, or as a defensive swing on 2 strikes. Doing this gets me a decent number of walks.

7)Swing Influence helps a lot but is not purely effective. I'll push up on the R Analog and X on a guessed pitch and it's a fly ball 95%.

8)I turned off check swing appeals, because the CPU is essentially wrong 90% of the time on those calls and so I likely average one half check swing per at bat.

9)If you're swinging at everything too early, TURN UP the pitch speed. This helps me a lot. I began by keeping at near the minimum and I sucked, changing it restored my ability in full...

10)Stealing bases is very easy once you're fast, just turn up baserunner speed and gain points at will.

11)I saved the best for last. Don't try to hit a bomb every time. Only do so when the situation warrants it. E.g. favorable counts, awful pitchers w/ no confidence etc. This makes all the difference in the world for me.

Any questions, let me know. I'm a good hitter but awful pitcher in The Show, dono why. I guess those years of little league paid off, haah.

EDIT: BTW, I'm going to change to the stride system to see how it works. I know I can hit the buttons, might as well try this too.

Does anyone else have this problem? First off, I use pure analog hitting on all-star, with guess pitch off, and I play RTTS most of the time.

When I swing, my cursor is almost always on the outside of the plate. Because of this, I can't hit an inside fastball to save my life. I'm sure it doesn't help that I'm late on most fastballs anyway.

I forgot how difficult hitting can be on this game. I just started a Tigers franchise and I suck at hitting.

I have found, on Pro, if you don't crush the first pitch meatball the second pitch will almost ALWAYS hit a corner. It hits the corner so hard don't even bother swinging. The 0-2 count is better than was happens if you swing.

Also, the CPU will throw strikes on 0-2, but almost will NEVER throw one on 2-2.
