I took it on a quick hop and I fired to first to get the runner with plenty of time to spare. This was two days ago, and I just did it again today.

My sliders are adjusted also, and I don't remember if the fielders were shallow or not. Dumb thing is, as many videos as I record (at least 3 a game) I didn't for these.
Why are you even coming up gunning on a ball to RF......just hit your cutoff or throw to second base

I've never seen the CPU attempt to throw a runner out at 1st from RF......and I never even consider throwing to 1st with my RF to begin with = PROBLEM SOLVED

i know, i have been looking into your sliders, i will give them a shot later on tonight, problem is, i only have a ps3 and no computer, so i have to write down your sliders then transfer them from paper to the game and frankly, i've been lazy lately

Ok but on the serious side - and I'm being 100% serious here - Since the patch, I've had 2 successful throws from right field to get the runner out on first. I've only played about 6-8 games in this time period also. One was passable because I think the outfielders were shallow and it was a hard line drive, but the second one wasn't even hit that soundly, and the outfielders were definitely not playing shallow.

Before the patch I wasn't seeing it at all. I do have modified sliders, but they are modified in a way that would make it overall less likely, not more, and they are more or less the same sliders I had pre-patch, where I didn't see any successful throws from right field to first. Before the patch I had amassed about 60-80 games. Some of those were CPU-v-CPU, and some of those were me batting for both teams and whatnot, but either way I never had this problem at all prior to the patch, because I adjusted sliders to address it within hours of purchasing the game.

I'm not going to say, nor do I believe, the patch failed to fix it, or made it worse, or any of that presumptive nonsense. I'm just posting what I've seen....
Were you using the analog stick or buttons for throws? I noticed an issue with button throwing that could allow this play to still take place more often then it should. I also noticed that the RFer is incorrectly getting charged with an error when the throw is offline when cheate...I mean players attempt this play. Unfortunately, the patch was already "gone" when I found these problems. They have since been corrected. If another patch is released, they will be addressed.

BTW, there is nothing in the patch that would have made this play more prevalent regardless of you slider settings.

One thing about RF gunning down the batter runner at 1B.

If you look at the positioning of fielders, the distance between 1B and RF isn't so different from a SS making a long throw from the deepest part of the infield. Of course we see these plays occasionally, sometimes safe, other times it's an out.

So we shouldn't really be surprised that RF *can* make such plays at least as often.

In fact, the positioning of a RF tends to be more favorable to that of SS, since when making such a play, the RF would likely be charging and in a good position to make a strong and accurate throw to 1B. (A SS would be making that signature "Jeter" throw.)

Who knows, if baseball accumulate more data on where the balls land in outfield, it's conceivable that the teams will start employing that strategy more, evaluating the risk of allowing long balls vs. getting outs at 1B.

As for the reason why the particular play doesn't happen more often right now in real life... I'm not sure but one thing we could say is that in game long throws tend to be more accurate than IRL (which generally increases assists in game). But that's exactly how the patch addressed the issue, which is good.

Can you please play more than two games before claiming something is wrong with the game? Good grief - we have people here who read these threads an want concrete information, not your play by play, shallow interpretation you continue to post.

Imagine if MLB players had to do the same thing in real life - a rookie plays their first game and his team scores 12 runs. "boy we sure do have a lot of offense," during the post game interview.

Two games is NOT a good barometer to claim something is "wrong" with the game.

As for RF, they randomly play too shallow in the middle of the lineup. This has been brought to their attention.

Two words that compliment your point (Yankees fans will understand this).

A couple good games mean nothing.

Look, I'm with you on the whole "That's not even real" stance.
I've never done this in baseball games since passing puberty; It was just such a big topic with this game on this forum that, with the way the ball was hit on those two plays, I decided to try it just to experience what everyone had talked about here. They were meaningless, pickup games.
I don't even really play games, I Manage-only, so this won't be a big issue for me, and I wasn't complaining about it anyway.
Personally, I can't recall in past Shows the ball getting to to the RF as fast as it does in '12 to allow this--whether or not it should be done.
Luckily, I don't let video games get the best of me and I have an imagination to cover up stuff like this if it ever does happen.

TNK I'm sorry but that's a pretty silly argument. If real life fielders didn't try to turn double plays would you stop trying to turn those also? Maybe since some teams don't bunt at all we should match that? No more stealing bases depending on what team you are. Let's just copy the real-life conventional form of thought in all areas...

Unfortunately, the patch was already "gone" when I found these problems. They have since been corrected. If another patch is released, they will be addressed.

BTW, there is nothing in the patch that would have made this play more prevalent regardless of you slider settings.
Yes, it was indeed Button Throwing, and with the Throwing Meter turned off. I haven't noticed the error thing, since I've never attempted it and not succeeded - I don't try it unless it's an easy play, for fear of the throw rolling into the dugout or something.

Good to know about the patch, and thanks for the response.

Re: MLB 12 The Show - Patch Impressions Thread

I think it is becoming clear the ball is moving off the bat really hot this year. I notice that for sure. Balls are getting to the outfield quick and stretching hits has become a little more challenging this season. You really have to pick your spots more this year than I had to in 2011 or 2009 (I skipped 2010). And I liek the fact a average or below average baserunner (as well as speed that is not that great) have to really think about trying to stretch that base hit in the gap or the corner. You have to manage your team even better now on the base paths. With my burners (Reyes, Bonifacio and Ramirez to an extent) also have been gunned down a few times as I adjusted to the new ball physics.

So like with every sports game I have ever played....I don't freak out, whine or complain....I adjust, adapt and have fun. Patches are something I never had for decades. I am glad we can fix games after release. It is a blessing more than curse in the grand scheme of things.

I think there is an adjustment period this year with the new ball physics. I was very used to the way the game played the past 3 years. We all were. We all clamored for real ball physics and this year we got them. I think the pros are far outwighing some of the con's. And soon IMO the cons will be gone because if you learn how to adapt, maybe adjust a slider or two to your preference of what you want to get out of the game you will settle in and just enjoy playing some ball again.

I know that is what I did for the last month with this game.

To me The Show 2012 is hands down the very best this series has ever produced thus far. It is an awesome game.

But it's not really a silly argument. As much as we want to compare you cannot compare real life to a video game for the simple reason that you can exploit a video game.
In this instance it looks like an exploit that this throw can be made more than it should be so i personally think if this is the case then No you should not be trying it.

i'm sorry, the last patch that was released fixed the runner being thrown out at 1st base issue, for those still trying to throw runners out at 1st base, my advice would be stop now, it's cheating

That's the point. Ideally a video game that is supposed to emulate real life baseball would not have such an easy exploit in the first place. I'm open to the idea that exploits cannot be avoided completely, but this one is a little tough to avoid as a player, which arguably makes it more important that it be solved.

And the idea that in the 2 seconds I have fielding the ball, I should realize it's an exploit situation, and simply hold on to the ball without question is absolutely ludicrous. It's not like I have a "WARNING: EXPLOIT" sign flashing in red letters on my screen. It DOES happen in real life, and I have no way of knowing during live play whether the scenario has realistically played out or not. It's not until I go back and look at the replay that I see things like the fielder not playing shallow, or that the line drive wasn't even hit all that hard. It's only after reviewing these things that I realize that it was probably an exploit and not a realistic scenario.

Yes it does happen in real life....but look at how often...hardly a regular occurence.

The 9-3 putout was just the fifth in the AL since 1974.....This was when Jeff Francouer made the putout in september of last year.
