        Re: Da Astros

I started this franchise about a month ago and I'm really pleased to be at June 1st at this point.

        Some Franchise Bullet Points
        • Record - (21-30) About what I expected
        • Jose Altuve (.230 BA) and Brian Bogusevic (.198 BA) were sent down to AAA in late May. Hopefully they will work on their kinks, get hot, and be called back up in June.
        • 3B-Scott Moore (.354/.476/.765) has played well since being called up in late May. He is platooning with Chris Johnson at 3B
        • OF's Fernando Martinez and J.B. Shuck have been given opportunities to the show and will be getting a lot of playing time in June.
        • The middle infielders, Lowrie, Marwin Gonzo, and Matt Downs are all splitting playing time, as no one player has done anything to stand out this year (Well Marwin had some momements in May).
        • Wandy Rodriguez started the season winning 5 games in a row with a sub 2.00 ERA. But now he has lost 6 games in a row and his ERA has ballooned to 5.29... Ouch...Thank goodness Bud Norris and JA Happ are hot!

The draft is soon approaching and I hired a big money scout last second, to try to unlock some more potentials, faster!

kinda sucks that ur not doing well with Altuve although im not surprised with Bogey....at least u have a couple of guys in ur rotation pulling their weight....gotta stop Wandy's slide as his trade value diminishes with every poor start....and u better draft some impact guys!

            June 1st, 2014 Update

Currently we are sitting at 30-22 2nd place in the NL Central (3.5GB), and 0.5GB in the wild card.

The offense has picked up quite a bit lately which has been a nice change of pace.

            - Paredes is hitting .272 out of the lead off spot with 10SB. He is in a platoon role with Altuve who is hitting .262 who has 5SB. They have 29 combined RBI which isn't too bad for being primarily lead off guys (sometimes one of them plays third and bats at the bottom.
            - Bogey had a rough June and hit batting average has fallen to .279 (from about .320). He is 4th in SB's though in the NL
            - Martinez has picked it up of late and has hit average up to .256 (was below .200). Just 3HR on the young campaign with 26RBI.
            - Singleton has been red hot of late and has his average up to .288 with 6HR (team lead), but just 18RBI. He started so poor that this has been very nice
            - Nick Castellanos was called up in the begining of June and has responded fairly well. Batting .279 with 2HR and 15RBI.
            - Lowrie/Schafer/Castro continue to put up unimpressive numbers but I don't really have too many options.

Pitching has been middle of the line mostly.
            - Paul Clemens continues pitching like an ACE. 6-1 with a 1.73ERA. Just 46 SO's in 73 IP (team lead in innings). Three complete games, 1 shutout. In the top 5 for just about all pitching categories.
            - Norris is 3-4 with a 3.68ERA with 57K's in 71 Innings
            - Lyles has brought his ERA down to a 4.26 (from about 5 1/2) in 2 starts. Still needs work
            - Sosa has been ridiculous since being moved back into the rotation. Unfortunately he frequently gets no run support or I blow the lead with the pen. 2-1 with a 2.12 ERA.
            - Cosart struggled in June. 3-3 with a 4.55ERA

            Minors
            - Happ is 3-2 with a 3.51 ERA since being demoted.. Not enough to get called back up
            - Chris Johnson was just sent to AA as Brett Wallace was lighting up AA (sent to AAA). I really need to move one of them.
            - Jonathan Villar has struggled all season and I just sent him to AA. I called up Robert Henley to AAA and a probable platoon with Marwin who has also struggled.
            - 19 Year old Victor Palacios (Closer) just got the bump to AAA after posting a 0.47 ERA with 19 saves so far on the year. B potential and could become my franchise closer if things work out (He has 5 solid pitches and a high clutch rating
            - 19 Year old SP Julio Sierra (number 1 pick previous year) is doing okay with a 3.8ERA in AA. At some point he was moved from the rotation in favor of a reliever with no stamina. Good move lol.. so I switched him back into the rotation.

            - Lucas Harrell was just sent to A-ball after I noticed his stats. 2-7 with a 5.11 ERA. 33BB's in 61.2 IP. I guess I shouldn't have given him an opportunity to begin with. I'm sure you'll appreciate that NFG. Signed Scott Kazmir to a 1 year deal to fill the void in AAA/AA.

Altuve's performance was very disappointing and confusing. For me he needs to stop trying to hit the ball like a power hitter. I wanted to give him time to pull out of his cold streak but after 2 months, I just couldn't look at that cold symbol anymore, besides the kid is 21 Y/O; I haven't given up on the little guy

Trust me I want to stop Wandy's slide! I might skip his next start and slide him down to the #3 or 4 spot in the rotation so he won't get matched up against other team ace's for June/July. But its a horrible combination of him not being able to control his fastball or curveball (walks), and when he does throw a good pitchers pitch, everyone is just teeing off on him (I'm talking about hitting balls out of the zone for RBI's). When he was dealing in April, his accuracy was impeccable.

As for the draft. Whoa...I'm nervous...I'm working on some strategy right now... I do have a question. With 30 team control did you auto pick for the CPU teams or did you actually figure out what they needed/scouted... and individually picked for them?

u have no clue how much it irks me when a line-drive hitter always swings for the fences...very unfortunate that Wandy is a control and command guy...if he had a mid-90's fastball, im sure some outcomes would be different....and i auto-picked for the CPU teams

I have done both. i think in my upcoming draft (about a week away) I will go through and make a good selection for their first picked based on what I perceive their needs to be and what they've scouted. Then in the other rounds I will do auto. It can get pretty time consuming figuring out what every team needs, but I feel like auto pick doesn't do the CPU justice compared to my well researched picks.

definetly agree with u but like u said, it's just too time-consuming...plus if i pick for each team in the first round, im gunna feel obligated to do so in the entire draft

I like that idea of doing the first round! Just trying out a test draft in another test franchise. How do you auto pick for the CPU? Is the square button "recommended player"?

True I just like to try and get them at least one good potential player they scouted. Although I just remembered the problem I ran into when I tried this in the last draft was it seemed like some cpu teams had only scouted like 5 players or something like that and I just gave up. So I may revert to the just auto-picking depending on how it works out.

See my update and what I did with Harrell NFG lol.. should have taken your advice sooner.
