    RE: Negotiation involving Eric Hosmer

    Good afternoon,

Just wanted to drop you a quick note and inquire about the availability of Eric Hosmer? I'm also interested in acquiring Wil Myers.

    Thanks,

    JD

I know we're only a couple of weeks into the 2012 season, but I'm interested in getting some initial insight into what you might be looking for in exchange for Cole Hamels. We feel pretty good about our rotation, so we're by no means desperate to add someone, but we feel like Cole can be a good veteran addition to our staff.

      Thanks,

      JD

Just for the future, could you try and bold the To, From, and RE section of your post? It just makes it easier to separate the negotiations from regular posts. With that:

What is our record so far this year? How is Hamels doing? These are the kinds of things we want to know before we begin any type of negotiation. Also, we feel it is only fair since you are the one that wants Hamels from us that you offer some sort of deal instead of making us search through your roster, does that make sense? Just a quick note though, we really like Mike Olt. It would be more helpful to us if you could answer the questions above and offer us some sort of "starter" deal.

      Respectfully,

        RE: Cole Hamels

Good afternoon, I wanted to inquire about the availability of Cole Hamels and see what you might be looking for in return.

At this point in the season (PHI is 5-5 / TEX is 7-2) it's still obviously early, but I'd like to begin a discussion anyway. I know Hamels is just 0-2 with a 5.30 ERA, but we like his experience and think he has the mental makeup to do well at a hitters park like the Ballpark in Arlington.

That being said, we're a bit leary of overpaying for a 1 year player with no guarantee of re-signing him, we did that with Cliff Lee 2 years ago and don't want a repeat...

We'd be willing to discuss Mike Olt in a trade, but we'd need to make this a multi-player deal with him in as a centerpiece. He has a high ceiling and can be a gold glove caliber corner IF for the next decade, and he has plus power to go with it.

What do you think about something like this:

        PHI gets:

        Mike Olt
        Julio Borbon

        TEX gets:

        Cole Hamels
        Sebastian Valle
        Domonic Brown

This would give you two players that could contribute this year. The only thing keeping them from being called up is our deep lineup. I'm interested in Brown and think he still has potential although he hasn't really harnessed it yet, and Valle is a very interesting prospect even if he is several years away yet.

        Thanks for your consideration!

        JD

PS: Thanks for the feedback, will do for future trade requests!

If we are giving up Hamels, we won't want someone in return that can help us right now. Giving up Hamels is viewed by our fans and a lot of people in the organization as "giving up on the season", so we would rather want pieces to help us in the future. With that being said, we think Hamels is worth a lot more than just Olt and Borbon. We aren't very high on Borbon, and Valle is very highly regarded in our organization. Even though Brown could very possibly be dealt soon, giving up Hamels AND Brown would require a good package from the team we are negotiating with. Any chance Leonys Martin being involved in the deal? We think he could hlep us in the future, with an aging Pierre and Victorino who will probably walk in free agency or be dealt. With that, we would like to counter offer with a deal we feel is fair:

                Phillies Give:
                Cole Hamels

                Rangers Give:
                Mike Olt
                Leonys Martin

We feel this trade is fair because Hamels is easily a top 10 pitcher in the league right now, and is just entering his prime. Plus, he has plenty of experience. We understand you don't want to overpay, but at the same time your team has been in the World Series the last 2 years and fallen short, if you had Hamels he could easily take your team to the top. Plus, we personally don't feel as if your overpaying in this deal. We understand your interest in Valle and Brown, but we can't give up a top 10 pitcher, and 2 of our best prospects for a B potential and Borbon.

                Respectfully,

This is excusable. Wow, that's kinda scary. Wouldn't be surprised if he started sending things like death threats....

Sorry its taken so long for me to get back to you but I had to personally see to a couple of players that my scouts are hot too for the upcoming draft. Now to get down to business. We wouldn't really be interested in the young players you spoke too as we are set at those positions for a long time we hope. As for what we would possibly be able to move, we think we might be priced out. We would scale back to just Haren and we would be willing to move Broxton, Cuthbert, and Colon. We understand if you believe you piece worth more than that but that would be our limit.

Thanks for your quick response. I understand your interest in Martin, but we view him as a fixture in our OF for years to come. I understand your interest in him, but for him to be included we'd need more than just Cole. I appreciate your opinion that he's a top 10 pitcher, but as he'll be 29 going into next season, I'm not sure I can agree that he's "entering his prime". He also had two surgeries this past offseason, so I need a little insurance if I'm going to send a package of prospects.

Olt is our 2nd highest rated prospect and since the Arizona Fall League last year has absolutely raked. His plus power, plus glove and plus arm make his ceiling very high indeed.

I can consider including Martin in a deal, but I'll need more in return than just one player if we're sending two of our very best and brightest prospects.

What do you think about this:

                          TEX Gets:

                          Cole Hamels
                          Sebastian Valle

                          PHI Gets:

                          Mike Olt
                          Leonys Martin
                          Cody Buckel

Buckel is a highly rated SP prospect that will begin the season in the Carolina league and expect to see move up to AA by mid-season. he was a 2nd round pick in 2010. Last season
he thrived for Hickory, posting a 2.61 ERA with a sharp 120/27 K/BB in 97 innings, allowing just 83 hits.

Let me know what you think.

There has been a fair amount of negotiation lately, keep up the good work everyone. Pretty much back to normal!
I dare you, try and IP check with tapatalk. (I'm assuming you're referring to me not knowing if MSUboy got banned. No clue what an IP is. Unless you mean IP Address, which I doubt.)

Thanks to the above two negotiators for really showing what we can do here. Kudos!

                              EDIT: invictus/bwoodring9, for the record...
Yeah, things are looking good around here!

Well, the poster in here earlier wanting to be the Rays is already banned. Usually, unless he met some type of profile, I don't think he would have gotten the second account banned yet, didn't see anything crazy that he posted yet... unless they just put two and two together and the guy joined yesterday and is already in the Arbitration Panel thread. I actually went and read the new banned guys posts and didn't see anything that was a bannable offense on its own, except for multi-accounting that they could prove (hence, IP checking or what I mentioned above.)

Doesn't really matter. As far as I'm concerned, the council as a whole could own the Rays, David Stern style and handle their inquiries for a while until we get someone we know is legitimate to take over the responsibilities.

Not derailing anymore with talk of the past, all else is grand here again.
