The Vita is great...but in this day and age people rather grab their smartphone for a quick simple game when on the road/public transport.
The handheld era is slowly fading away I'm afraid. I mean if it's not even doing well in Japan you've got a problem.

Yeah, I guess it makes sense for me since I don't own a Smartphone. Just a standard flip phone.

Anyway, most of this talk is probably better saved for the actual Vita thread. I kind of want to generate more "cross-controller" prototypes based on a situation you'd find yourself in within this game, so if anyone can contribute ideas maybe to RTTS or DD, that would be great. Maybe pause menu ideas, too (it should really all be the same, but as far as the visual goes that might be important to know about).

A thing I'd like to see in the pause menu would be the history of a batter vs the current pitcher. Would like to know if one of my relievers warming up had a lot of success in getting current batter out

Well, I was thinking more along the lines of putting that on the Vita screen when in-game if at all possible, so that you don't have to press pause to access that kind of information.

My idea of the pause menu would be to have that on the Vita screen and let the TV show random stadium cutaways and such (at least for the Quick Pause menu).

What about bullpen warmups, swipe screen and see defensive alignments and being able to adjust positions on the Vita screen. You could do so much with a feature like this.
            Florida State Seminoles
            Atlanta Braves

3 national championships 3 Heisman Trophy winners 16 ACC Championships 14 straight AP top fives

Boom there it is! Look at you...

I'll have to try and make some more examples later for sure.

I like the idea of using the Vita touchscreen to position your defenders. That would be very intuitive.

Would the cross-controller be helpful to the MOM guys?

Sounds interesting but I don't actually see the Vita's value increasing once PS4 hits the market... like cross platform save, that's useful because the game for the most part plays similarly on both PS3 and Vita, but does SCEA have any incentive to develop the Show for both platforms? I'm doubtful...

Maybe Sony will plan something special for the PS4 that will help revive the Vita. Some sort of feature that the PS3 couldn't achieve. I could see a complete interface overhaul for the Vita, some new software that would play nicely with the PS4, and some of these ideals with all games.

I can't believe the Vita is on life support, especially with so many ideals for games left on the table just in this thread.

Cross-controller play is different from cross-play. If you see the screenshots, this will actually be pretty future-proof. You won't really be playing any parts on the Vita which require to render data that is overwhelming for it. As you can see, it shows a lot of graphical heads up displays, charts, and information. This happens to be more probable to achieve than cross-play if you think about it.

They wouldn't be "developing" a Vita version of the game, but rather a Vita feature for the PS3/4 game. Look at the LittleBigPlanet video again. Aside from the warping portion, there isn't anything on there that couldn't be achieved if that platformer crosses over to the PS4. It can still be used.

                        Re: PS3/Vita cross-controller functionality (ideas?)

Updated OP again with a picture example of when a ball is put in play.

I know the screens (especially the Vita screen) are a bit difficult for you to see, so I'll give you enlarged versions here:

Again, this would work well because you could look at this screen instead of the main screen if you had/wanted to. It gives you fielding and baserunning attributes, and allows you to use the touchscreen if you so choose. Also, that means the PS3 and TV can display no other information other than the score bug, and it can do little camera cuts like to baserunners rounding bases and such (if those options are turned on).

Last but not least, nomo... this would also work for PS4. Look at that Vita screen, and tell me there is something there that the Vita could not handle even if the game was on PS4. Cross-controller is different from cross-play. You're not playing the game on the Vita, you're playing on the PS3 with the Vita as a controller (and interactive features).

No, I'm not questioning the idea itself. The idea can potentially be useful if you are a hardcore... especially given that I find the user interface of the Show somewhat clumsy at times, hard to locate info you want quickly, etc.

I'm just making a comment about the incentive to add such a feature *if* Vita ends up not being so popular in a couple years. I just bough Vita for the Show (though I got a couple other games like PYS, Power Pro, etc., mostly for scouting purposes) so I can do whatever I want with it. But it all basically come down to business at some point unfortunately, so we have to think: "is this good enough to encourage people to purchase Vita"?

That's the part I'm questioning. I do find Vita to be a pleasant nice little device, but in general I don't really have a very high opinion on Sony's tendency to go proprietary whenever they can. I wish I can use Vita for something other than gaming, but it really isn't as useful for anything other than gaming at the moment... so I'm not sure people would add Vita once the disparity between Vita and its (companion) console gets larger, which should happen once PS4 arrives.

You're speaking too much logic, my friend. You and I both understand that the Vita simply hasn't ever launched, and it's only so unfortunate since it's a fantastic device. My only wish is that something like this could happen.

Meanwhile, I'm definitely having fun running away with concepts, and making ideas become realities. My next few I want to do will be:

                            - Defensive alignment screen
                            - Bullpen screen
                            - M.O.M. screen

I think if enough (by the dozens, though) games support cross-controller play, then it would be something worth advertising as they did with Vita when it came to playing your games on the go like with The Show. I mean isn't this the whole reason for the Wii U's existence? Is this not what the Wii U does? I haven't played it before so I can't say for certain, but basically this would be what they're doing here.

Oh yeah.....this would be VERY cool.
ESPECIALLY for Manage only Mode play.

                                GREAT idea.
