    Re: Community Day 2013 - Gameplay - Questions/Concerns/Inquiries

I know that you all had limited time with the game, but how have the level's changed for MLB 13?

I played on Veteran Level last year with custom sliders and I had very realistic stats.

Do you see Veteran being to easy and maybe All-Star in MLB 13 is closer to what Veteran was in MLB 12?

And is Legend and Hall of Fame more difficult in MLB 13?

    Thanks.

It is hard to say actually. It will be interesting with the adjustments made to hitting on where people will end up difficulty wise this year. As far as HOF and Legend go, I bounced back and forth between both at the event. Out of the 2 I thought HOF could use a tweak on making it more difficult.

        Re: Community Day 2013 - Gameplay - Questions/Concerns/Inquiries

The difficulty levels were looked into as I left the event, so not sure what had been done before the code freeze... but it was discussed rather extensively even till the last minutes.

I wrote my hitting impression so that's my opinion about the change, but I generally felt the same way as nem did about hitting. Even at higher levels (HoF, Legend), hitting felt quite a bit more forgiving due to the said timing window adjustments.

Overall, I think the majority of people who have hit at All-star and below will like the change.... Like Ramone's been saying in all his interviews so far, it's much less frustrating and you'll feel that there are less head scratch moments looking at swing analysis.

I didn't get in games where I played seriously at the event (I was more concerned about testing and looking at things), but I was actually having harder time looking for the right level to hit.... I mostly hit at HoF and sometimes at All-star, but I was experimenting with Legend and felt I could hit reasonably there..... (I don't play well on Legend in MLB 12 at all.)

But then when I looked at things like pitcher/batter analysis numbers in a game between Ramone & Nem, I saw very sim and realistic numbers... it's not like they only had high-scoring, arcade-ish games.... so it's kinda hard to see what the long term effect of the change will be. But the timing change is definitely very noticeable (unless it was changed at the last minutes).

Also, Brian@SCEA chimed in the other day saying that he'd write about difficulty levels once the game gets released. So that should be an interesting read on this.

Thanks A lot Guys!! We are lucky to have great members at OS like you and others who take their time to let the Community know what is going on.

Can anyone confirm that Pitching on Veteran was easier in MLB 13 than MLB 12?

Or does All-Star in MLB 13 look to be more like a "Easier" setting than a "Really Easy" setting?

          Thanks.

            Question for the OS attendees.

I was just playing a game and I tried to turn a 3 6 3 double play. So my first basemen made a nice stong throw to the covering shortstop at second base but then the shortstop throw back to first base was so weak as if a little girl was throwing and of course the base runner was safe. And I am almost positive I had full power on the throw back to first base. Also I am pretty sure I only seem to see these girly type throws when the shortstop and possibly second basemen are throwing to first base in double play situations.

I have seen this happen from time to time over the last year of playing MLB 12 The Show and with previous versions of the show aswell.

Is this my thought this is happening or is it a gameplay glitch?

Will this still happen in MLB 13 The Show?

I really hate when this happens!

It can happen from time to time, it appears the fielder is caught in a casual throw animation. That is why the throw is weak. If I remember correctly if you pre-load too late it will trigger it. I know if I am not perfect on the exchange, I can see it developing. Not sure if it is something that could be totally fixed other then changing your timing on the pre-loading.

This also happens when the fielder covering the 1B isn't quite near the bag. Often happens with 1st baseman or pitcher because they aren't on the bag when the assist is made.

Similar problem with RTTS pitcher not being able to complete a double play because the throw wasn't made till the base is actually covered. The RTTS issue has been addressed in the new game but I'm not sure how this translate to the regular game play mode.

Hey have you guys noticed if the number of double plays have come down? In 12 it seems like there were far too many for both the user and CPU. Any sliders for 12 that can lessen the amount?

                  Thanks

According to the stats from one of the test runs that the dev team was running during the CD event, it should at least be lower than what we had in 12 (was about 1.2 per game per team... the MLB ave is about 0.75). I actually don't think it will be perfectly in line with the MLB ave, but it should come down significantly... given what we saw.

People really should ditch the idea that any slider adjustment is necessary to enjoy this game. The game should play fine out of the box.

That is a bold statement nomo. I have never seen a sport game that would be slider-free. I feel SCEA should add more sliders such as different sliders for outfielders/infielders, instead of grouping them together.

                        even fielder run speed?
                        nice.

there will be a decent amount of walks without touching pitching sliders?

those were the only two sliders i really messed with. iirc.

It plays a very solid game of baseball at default but I am sure people will be fiddling with certain sliders. The game always gets re-balanced from version to version so whatever value default had last year may not be the same for this year. The only thing I could see myself adjusting immediately would be increasing pitch speed.

This is pretty much my take on it as well. I think fielder vs. baserunner speed is just right this year at default.

Also, I don't think Nomo's statement is that bold, at all.

I'm still hung on the fact that he said sliders aren't necessary for enjoyment, while in the same post, admitted that GIDP are still not at MLB average.

Of course the game can be enjoyed without sliders. I'm confident it'd be a very great game even without slider changes. But the game can also be enjoyed without franchise mode, without classic pitching, and without the presentation options.

It's silly to not take advantage of the tools and features with which we have been bestowed. Sliders are just as much a part of the game as anything else.

I do not think sliders could actually change that outcome without throwing the running and fielding game out of whack.
