Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
i like the idea of Harold Reynolds. (especially since HarRey and MattVas are together on Hot Stove) the chemistry is there. however, i know he's more football based, but what about Gus Johnson?Comment

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
I still believe Joe Buck has gotten the chances he has because of who his dad was. It's the same with Skip and Chip Caray. I'm a huge Cubs fan, but there was only one Harry.
Nothing makes me madder than hearing Buck and McCarver announce Cardinals playoff games. That would have been like letting Harry and Santo announce a Cubs playoff game. Anybody who doesn't hear the bias is deaf.
I like Vasgersian, but I believe too much is recycled every year. Was Vasgersian originally selected because he was a Padres announcer and the game is made in San Diego? Was it a convience thing? I honestly don't know the answer (so don't roast me if that is widely known).
I love commentary in games, but what I really ask is that it just doesn't take away from the game. I can always turn it off, but to me it adds an extra layer to the game. I just don't want it to be like the NCAA basketball game a few years back with Dick Vitale!Atlanta Braves

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
Well, now that the game is out and I've had some time to play, gotta say it was a basically a waste of time to add Steve Lyons. Most of the time, he says the EXACT same things Dave Campbell said. Why bother recording new lines if they're going to be word-for-word replicas of what was already in the game? You'd figure they'd at least rephrase the lines a little bit. I definitely have to shake my head at this one.Comment

Gus Johnson should do all commentating for every sport every game. Period.Comment

Also, as much as I like Matt, after so many years of him, I think I'm ready to see someone else take over PBP just for something new. It would have to be a high quality guy though (someone mentioned Thom Brennaman in the impressions thread, kind of reuniting the old ASB crew-I'd definitely be good with that), as Matt calls a great game IMO.Comment

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
I saw the thread title "Is Steve Lyons the Answer" and thought if not him, then it must be Bill Lee without knowing what the thread was about. If not Psycho, then it must be Spaceman, amiright?
Anyways, I never expect much for commentary in a baseball game. The gameplay itself is the most important thing to me. But, I have to admit hearing the word "and" from Matt V. after EVERY sentence is extremely annoying.Comment

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
Yeah, it's a shame they didn't try newer material. I won't go so far as to call it a waste personally, as I think Lyons is an upgrade vocally anyway, and I'm hoping this makes for a smoother transition to a serious upgrade for commentary for the PS4. If not, then it will be a waste of time in my eyes.

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
After hearing him in Madden, it suddenly hit me that he is honestly overrated. Either EA Madden poorly implemented Gus Johnson, or Gus was simply "exposed" as a commentator. It's the combination of his tone, delivery, and approach that I initially liked (pre-Madden), but it's the same combination of tone, delivery, and approach that I realized I actually don't like (post-Madden). Gus is too over the top.
Rex Hudler was terrible, and I would have to put Gus Johnson on the same level as Rex after hearing Gus in Madden.Comment

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
Needs more Hawk Harrelson and Joe Buck. LOL. I jest, I jest. I do think Steve Lyons adds a fresh element. But yes, if they could capture more of Matt Vasgersian's real life enthusiasm for the game, and make the commentary seem less awkward and flow more (Something I think 2K games excel at) then I think it would be perfect.Comment

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
I agree that Steve is at least a vocal upgrade, but I still can't understand why they didn't freshen up the lines that are carbon copies of Campbell's old lines, some of which have been in the game since '06. I could sit down with the script for even just 15 minutes and come up with some variations for the old stuff. It doesn't require much effort to take the basic premise and rephrase it. Since they went through the trouble of recording and editing Steve's voice, it seems rather strange that they didn't take just a little extra time to revise all the lines...or better yet, have Steve improvise some of the lines on the spot so that it doesn't sound like he's reading a script.Comment

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
If Joe Buck was put on this game I dont think i could play it.. I don't watch baseball on Fox unless the indians are on because I stand he or McCarver.
I think Vasgersians good, but his lines need updated for sure and he needs a new team. No offense to Karros but hes extremely bland and doesnt say much, and Steve Lyons is eh to me.
If i had to pick 2 people to replace them, I would say John Smoltz and Al Leiter. Harold Reynolds would get on my nerves as well"IIIIIIIIIIIIIII Love ya Cleveland!"- The great Bruce DrennanComment
