I have the ps3 20gb, one of the first out in store. I am not having any stutter at all ( fingers crossed).

well that's good. i hope it stays that way for you, i can say this much, when i can play other games on my ps3 with np's i refuse to let ppl tell me its my system, im not gonna be running out exchanging ps3's or hd's, i know my ps3 works fine, its the game, and they'll fix it at some point, until then i have plenty i can do...

Yep, I have an older 60GB PS3 but I have no stuttering issues in any other games. The thing hardly even gets turned on except to play The Show every year. No modifications, original HDD.

It started out being one maybe two pitches a game. But my last two games I played it was happening sometimes 2-3 times in an at-bat. Those two games were my first two games in Baltimore (playing as the Dodgers in an online league) so I don't know if the stadium you're playing in is a contributing factor.

But yea with it happening to so many people there's no way you can convince me that it's hardware-related.

I think people are taking it out of context. I do not think anyone is saying it is solely a hardware issue. I do believe it is a contributing factor on why some see it and some don't in regards to frequency and severity.

Question: Has anyone seen this on-pitch-release stutter (extended pause upon pitch release) when you are pitching against CPU? What is the camera used (broadcast, catcher, etc.)?

The reason I ask is that I think I haven't seen this in CPU vs. CPU games yet. I have used both broadcast cam and catcher cam and I don't think I've seen one (though I am not looking at every pitch).

No, the stutter is not present when pitching to the CPU, and not present in CPU vs CPU games. Here is my theory:

I think there is a logging mechanism in the backgroung that is related to the new XP system when playing against the cpu or agains a human player. You get XP after your performance, an I think this logging mechanism is causing the stutters. I see stutters almost every time I make a putout, especially when throwing the ball to first base, when striing out the oppenent, just before the player catches the ball. The same thing also happens when the pitcher is throwing the ball, and most of us noticed this, because this is the most noticable, game breaking stutter.

When the CPU plays vs the CPU, there is no XP rewarded, so there is no logging mechanism in the backgroung. There is also no stutter in HomeRun Derby and Batting practice, where There is no XP rewarded eighter. I'm pretty sure, that this stutter issue is related to the new XP/Universal profile system This is the software side...

On hardware side, I think the game uses the HDD too much. Mabe there are people who are lucky with their HDDs and they are not experiencing the issue, but it's certainly a programming issue, they should have tested the game on different PS3 hardwares.

Software is at the root of the issue though, even if hardware contributes to the issue the game should have been designed with the hardware in mind. It is happening on so many different SKUs of PS3 hardware revisions and other PS3 titles do not have this very specific type of stutter. At this point this issue needs to be taken care of in some way as it affects the core function of gameplay. Its not some little bug that can be worked around as any methods to fix this have either been ineffective or just temporary depending on who you ask.

Not that hardware doesn't contribute it, it most likely has something to do with why it manifests itself to some people. But the issue still needs to be taken care of on the software side as we can do nothing on the hardware end.

I can't recall another game doing something similar to this, not even MLB 12 (although I know some people said they saw this last year) on my PS3 which is a stock CECH-3001A.

I see it pretty much every pitch in RTTS. I know they are working on it so I guess it's only a matter of time before they get it fixed right?

You are wrong. This would mean, that people with stock HDD do not have stutters. I have a stock HDD and I have the stutter.

They should have tested the game properly...

What frustrates me the most is the lack of conversation about this issue from the DEVs. We all know, that Ramone is here, he is reading these posts, and he does not comment on it. The game is out for almost a week now, and all we now is the investigatin of the issue is in progress.

I think they do not want to admit, that they have made a mistake, because it would hurt the sales of the game...

Bud not everything works exactly as it's suppose to out of the box nor does it mean it'll last forever. Just because you have the stock HDD does not mean it's find and dandy, the HDD is argue-ably the most delicate part in your system you have direct access to, a big enough bump could make it work incorrectly.

What would you like devs to say? If they don't have any information for you on why this could be happening what's the point of commenting further on the matter? In this thread alone the variables they need are here.

Admitting something probably wouldn't hurt sales anymore than the bug itself if people actually do their research, which judging by launch day/week impressions from some suggest they did not.

yes last night chase field me pitching to the CPU. I think the pitchers name I was using was McCarther.

Also this game sounds like it's murdering my brand new super slim disc drive.

Why? It's not like they changed processor, GPU or HDD manufacture from Phat to slim. It's power supply and motherboard are really the only big things that changed in which the game was tested on slims and some are still using phats and don't experience this problem still.

Have only played Play now offline and Franchise modes however


Ps3 original launch system. 10GB install. Logged on.
Pitch in pitcher view and bat on default catcher view

Exhibition game me vs cpu. Angels at Yanks. Stuttering on pitch from Sabathia to second hitter in order in top of first. No one on. I had to quit in the 4th inning so did not see if it would reoccur.

It is interesting because my launch 60GB drive does not appear to be working that hard. I hear it on start-up and that is about it. I do have some stutter this year and that is the first time ever I have had a stutter issue on this machine with this series.
