It makes a difference in load times, which is what I stated. There's no true impact on in-game performance past load and install times and there's plenty of tests that have been run to support that claim (I have also tested it personally with one of my SSDs.)

By all means, if you want to put one in your PS3 feel free - just trying to help others make informed decisions. If you play one of the few games with mega texture streaming (RAGE and BRINK being the main culprits) it's a boon to upgrade your HDD, but even then a hybrid drive is your best bet as it performs just as well as the SSD.

That's true. But for the Show 13 it did kill nearly all the in game stuttering I was getting. So it does help there.

I was holding out hope for the Western Digital hybrid's which are supposed to have a 32gb NAND. A big improvement over the current Hybrids. Unfortunately it sounds like their release has been pushed back.

Not to hijack this thread into a SSD discussion, but just to add to what's been said... One drawback to the ssd is the PS3 does not support TRIM. From what I've read, no TRIM support will shorten the life of an SSD, which already has a limited lifespan (so many read/writes). Also, without trim the SSD will start to slow down over time.

That said, you can get a good 120 gig ssd nowadays for a decent price, so it still might be worth it. Just remember, for games which use the bluray you will see limited improvements in load times. But it varies from title to title. Also, I found install times did not really improve at all, which surprised me. Even with the full download version of the Show 13 which installs directly from the drive. Apparently it has to do with the limited write speeds of ssd's on the ps3.

Where you will see the biggest performance increase is with digital content installed directly to the hard drive. I ran some comparisons with the show 13 and it cut load times nearly in half. Loading times for a rtts/exhibition game took around 23-24 seconds using my standard 5400 RPM drive and around 11-12 seconds on the SSD. Exit times were also cut in half. This is a big help if you play a lot of rtts games.

One other thing. the PS3 is limited to 1.5 Gb/s data transfer rate, so you really don't need a top of the line ssd. You can get a 120 gig Samsung 840 (non pro) for around $100. Or find the cheapest you can get. Samsung, Crucial, and Intel are all good choices.

Regarding TRIM, you can use a USB stick(s) to save data, remove SSD and put in your computer and format the drive, once a year is enough. Someone suggested I run TRIM once a year, but I don't think you could run TRIM because PS3 format is different. You would have to re-install the game(s) though. I just have The Show on my SSD so that's not an issue for me. As for longevity, I have 2 Intel SSDs in my computer that were installed years ago. I find SSD to be very reliable and better for the computer than mechanical drives.

As for the game itself, in my experiment, I have found the The Show to run smoother with my SSD installed, and I have the digital version.

I guess I'll go ahead and put what's working for me out there, if anyone wants to try it...I've hinted at it before in this thread. It's probably just placebo like the other things that have been posted, but if it helps even one person it's probably worth it.

All I'm doing is loading an exhibition game at US Cellular when I first start up The Show - I don't have to play the game, just start it up and then quit. Then I just go play whatever (I've tried all the modes and several matchups/stadiums), and the pitch stutter has been all but gone for as long as I have the game running. Even at Fenway, where the stutter has been at its worst for me.

This is now over a 20 game sample size of trying this, so at least on my console it's been quite reliable. And by no means is my stutter completely gone without this - that test of firmware 4.40 the other night reaffirmed that. Anytime I just start a game up normally I'm subject to the same stutter I've gotten since day 1.

I couldn't even hazard a guess as to why this seems to be working for me. The best I can do is that something loads or reads correctly in some stadiums and not in others, but that goes against what Ramone was saying about it not being an issue with the game. So I'm at a loss. All I know is that I can enjoy the game now, and have been for about the last week or so.

If anyone tries it, let me know how it goes and convince me that I'm not going crazy.

And if you try this and do still get stutter, please post what stadium you were playing in so I can try it for myself. I certainly haven't played in all the parks so I can't guarantee this will work in all of them, even if it does work in some. I'm only asking about the pauses right when the ball leaves the pitcher's hand - nothing else.

Hey everyone. I've noticed last year with 12 and now this year with 13 when a pitch is about to be released there will be a brief stall or stutter. Last night I tried rebuilding database and at first it was fine for a game but today it's doing it again. Last weekend I bought a brand new super slim ps3 and same thing happened so I returned that ps3 and back to using my one I have. Anyone else had this experience?

Perhaps this isn't as useful a piece of info now that the devs seemed to have handle on this glitch, but for online, when stuttering is a problem, it usually happens early in the game (1st and 2nd innings) and it seems to go away for the most part (but it still happens some times... just not at the frequency in the first two innings or so).

Good thing is, I've learned to hit with stutters.

My stutters completely went away when I turned off the pitch location graphic that comes up after each swing. It's called the "Swing/Pitch Info" under the general gameplay settings. I also play with guess pitch off.

Hahahahaha!!!! Yup, it's almost like these guys never support their product once they release it. Honestly, have you ever played this series before. And comparing a little stutter to the whole Sim City debacle is simply laughable!!

Anyway, the inconsistency of this bug is probably the reason they have been unable to fix it yet. There just doesn't seem to be any one thing that causes it to happen. I have played 3 games straight that don't have the issue, then 1 that has a massive amount of stutters and then another that has only 1 or 2. It is very frustrating to not be able to find consistency with these stutters.

So please don't defend them, because they knew exactly that the game had this issue, sold the game to thousands of people, and now are sitting on our money instead fixing it with a patch.
