If you go young, the only team ballsy and rich enough to take Cano this close to his contract extension would probably be the Dodgers. Problem with that is, assuming Yasiel Puig is off-limits, what do you get back? Dee Gordon + Zach Lee + Chris Reed + Corey Seager might get it done (could spin some of those prospects to MIA in a 3-team deal for Stanton also, possibly), but there aren't many options for different prospect packages after LAD's farm system was thinned out in that Red Sox trade last year. However, given the enormous pressure to win on LAD right now, they might be willing to completely empty the farm to get that one last player...though they probably are 2-3 players away from WS contention imo.

One thing to consider though if trading for prospects...you do realize it's the Yankees, right? Let's just say the fans might not be too receptive.
Yes I realize its the Yankees still your last line is interesting because I believe that's why the Yankees will give him what he wants in the end. They don't want to see life without Cano in the lineup and possibly having to explain to fans why the lineup is awful and that they let their best player walk away in a cost cutting move all while still charging car prices to go to games. The fans and ticket prices to me why they are already backtracking on their lowering payroll stance. However I like the idea of spending money smartly and your Stanton idea has me intrigued! I could see a scenario (only because Jeff Loria is...well...you know) where the Yanks struggled due to injuries and a strong division and tried to deal Cano to LAD for prospects to be flipped with a couple top Yankee prospects to MIA for Stanton.

Price is more realistic. TB and Seattle would be fun to run because Seattle has the prospects to get a star player and TB has Price who will get you a ton in return

The 3 way trade would be a lot of talent moving around.

Problem is the Dodgers prospects aren't great. It's a good idea but be careful of two things, one the Yankees are notorious for overhyping their prospects. They leak info to Heyman or Marchand and they hype these prospects. Remember the killer B's? Banuelos , Betances and Brackman. Brackman got cut, Banuelos is out till 2014 and Betances can't hit the Great Wall of china with his fastball. That being said they have better prospects the the Dodgers

Surely you could find something better. Just look around more, there are better pitchers you can get.

I try to be ultra-realistic. The only SP out there right now are Capuano who I slightly overpaid for imo due to division and Happ(less). My team is a plethora of #5 types but some are young and just need more time. Lohse wouldn't take a pillow contract with COL and Vazquez wouldn't play that far West even if he was signing. Taking a flier on an innings eater might make me more competitive this year and give guys like Pomeranz, Friederich, and Chatwood time to develop.

If I do end up being competitive in July, then there will be ALOT of arms available but not many bats.

I actually found myself in a similar situation recently. Denard Span starts in centerfield, obviously, but Roger Bernadina was getting regular time in the outfield as well, typically spelling Span, Bryce Harper, or Jayson Werth when one of them needed a day off. But then Bernadina suffered a somewhat serious injury and I didn't want to rush up any prospects to fill the void.

Anyway, I was able to trade Henry Rodriguez and a prospect for Dexter Fowler.

The Rockies weren't starting him and had them on their trade block. And they'd actually offered me a trade separately for Rodriguez, so I figured it was worth exploring.

Well if you are looking for an inning eater JA Happ is ok. But don't expect greatness.

Don't tell that to AC, he had him in the CY young race last year in his franchise ha

Dang. I have never been good with Happ. That's cool he could do that. He was on the the Astros in MLB 11, I didn't do well with him, so I traded him.

Ya it was funny how AC talked so down on him all year, and then he got his franchise going and he fell in love with him and was like 14-1 with him at one point.

14-1! Holy cow. I don't think I can go 14-1 with an elite pitcher!
