Re: 2013 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
I don't think regressing Cargo to his career mean is unfair; it's apples to apples. Comparing him to the MLB average is a stretch. BABIP can be a *skill* in some cases, or at least partly.I didn't mean to imply that you referred to BABIP as luck, that was just a generalized statement I felt like I needed to throw in there due to massively popular misperception. However, the point that your regression to the mean is flawed is valid. Nobody can argue his fb/hr is sustainable, but to assume his barrelling skills are average for the sake of regression? Think about what that means. I dunno about teying to pick something realistic for him though. It is arbitrary but could be right.
35 makes a great way of stating a gap and come trade deadline time, who really knows what the market is like? It could theoretically go the other way as well. Non-deadline deals, I will agree with his assessment on bending.
I like your arguments though and I'll drop it from this thread. It has been fun!
But, Cargo has a .320-.330 BABIP outside of Coors not a .420 BABIP like this year, lol.
Mike Olt anyone?
Depends on what you need. A surefire starter at a position of weakness might be better depending on the team. For example, what would the Cards/M's do with 3 more B's? They'd be buried in a system-wide avalanche of prospect depth. Then again, 3 B's would be much better for the White Sox/Angels...It's context dependent, and prospect dependent too.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: 2013 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
I do think it was a stretch and DID admit it. You guys want me to regress him to .320 BABIP and 14% HR/FB?
And BABIP is 3 main components: pure luck, contact%, and LD%. Just imo.
Hence why I suggested that to be more fair.Originally posted by WTNYBut, Cargo has a .320-.330 BABIP outside of Coors not a .420 BABIP like this year, lol.
DON'T even go there hahaha.Originally posted by WTNYMike Olt anyone?"Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

Re: 2013 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
So, Adam Lind is playing in my dynasty pretty much exactly like he is in real life (GJ Willard!), and I want to know what he'd be valued at if I sold high. Jays fans, I will take your words with more than a grain of salt for fairly apparent reasons.

Here's how he's playing in real life. That .393 BABIP looks bad, but a much improved LD% (with the plate discipline numbers to boot) and a platoon (slows regression) displays that a .330+ BABIP may be sustainable. He's on an extremely reasonable contract. Showing good power and a nice ability to get on base, obviously.
The defense passes not only the eye test (he's purty out there), but the metric test, he's rocking a 5.6 UZR/150.
What do you guys think? Just basing things off real life, as there haven't been any surprises aside from Wil Myers beasting in my chise, teams that want a 1B: Mets, Brewers, Phillies, Royals, Cardinals, Giants, Athletics."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

What exactly are you looking for? I'm assuming MLB ready players? or prospects? Pitching help or position players?
Or are you just trying to get a general value?Denver Broncos

Re: 2013 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
Just a general value, really. I'm more than willing to DFA Ackley if I was getting a 2B back as he's hitting like ****. A 3B wouldn't be bad either. But mainly, I really, really want a catcher. Pleeeeeaaaaaaaasssssseeeee. I'm playing the Red Sox next and I hope Arencibia gets run over by Ortiz at the plate. He is just such ****. I hate him with a passion. I can't justify going for Grimm anymore unless Grimm blows up. My catcher prospect A.J. Jimenez is blowing and Santiago Nessy is a couple years away."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment
