Re: 2013 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

My opinion on the spreadsheet is if you're going to ask stuff like "What will it take to get this player?", then that is exactly what it is for. It tells you right there what kind of prospects it's going to take to get that player. That's how the idea came up in the first place! There was times where people would come in and say who is (insert name) worth? Most of the time it would be the same players (*cough* Felix Hernandez).

Maybe if you want specific players you can give some prospects that fit the values given in the sheet. But even then, you know all of your prospects and their values in the game. The person asking has more knowledge of their team and franchise than any of us do.

More info. Lefty? Righty? Don't care? Looking for a lower end reliever or more costly reliever?

Honestly, at this point I don't care just because I haven't started my franchise yet. Once I do, I'll be back with more details. Just looking to shore up my bullpen with possible guys before I start.

          Sooo maybe:

          Package 1:
Javier Baez or Jorge Soler (High-A OSFM/Mid-A OSFM)
          Brett Jackson (Low-A SCEA)
          Arodys Vizcaino (Low-A SCEA)

          Package 2:
Javier Baez or Jorge Soler(High-A OSFM/Mid-A OSFM)
          Brett Jackson (Low-A SCEA)
          Pierce Johnson (Mid-B OSFM)
          Dillon Maples (Mid-B OSFM)

          Package 3:
          Javier Baez (High-A OSFM)
          Jorge Soler (Mid-A OSFM)
Dillon Maples or Pierce Johnson (Mid-B OSFM/Mid-B OSFM)

          Package 4:
Javier Baez or Jorge Soler (High-A OSFM/Mid-A OSFM)
          Arodys Vizcaino (Low-A SCEA)
          Albert Almora (High-B OSFM)

I wouldn't personally do any of these trades - But it was noted to suspend realism, so I just thought I'd throw some names together for you to work with that might be considered a "fair" package.

Hope that helps. If not I'll go back to my corner. lol
I really need to learn how to multiquote...

But anyways, this helps a lot. I would personally go for something like package 2 but substitute Jackson for Vizcaino and Almora for one of the pitchers.

So Soler, Vizcaino, Maples, Almora would be my offer. I don't see the Cubs giving up Baez

I'd look for some free agents to give a shot before I trade for a reliever at the beginning of the year

Alright. Got any names just in case I can't find anyone I like?

Does the spreadsheet have prospects NOT on the 40-man roster? This might be a really dumb question, bugt I want to find value on other prospects.

Anyway to move A-Rod to another team? I'm the Yankees and just want to get rid of him. Are there any teams that would take him? Would it make more sense to just release?

Totally. I don't see them doing so either, him or Soler for that matter. But someone asked what would be "fair" while suspending realism. So an answer was given.

The package you put together was perfect. I knew there was a combo in there that I was overlooking!

If you can find anyone to take on his contract (which means no). Letting him go? Meh, how realistic are you?

For years people have been able to come in here and ask for advice on a trade without being told to "Look at the spreadsheet". Also the spreadsheet basically only takes into account player a for prospects. What about trades that involve major leaguers for major leaguers. Not every trade is a major leaguer and the only return is prospects, see Justin Upton trade. Kinda hard to explain, hope I'm making sense.
35 already covered this enough, but it's not just prospects. A high-B can mean a high-B prospect or Martin Prado. It's not OVR/POT specific.

Also, like 35 said, there were plenty of high-quality prospects in there.

I got you, didn't completely understand the spreadsheet I suppose. I'm also very aware there were prospects in the Upton deal my point was that it wasnt JUST prospects.
