Re: 2013 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

Alright so just following up here.

I'm the Rockies and am in last place by a long shot in late June. I wanna start selling some of my players and I have too many outfielders. My first idea was to trade Cuddyer, but he has been struggling all year (.220ish, few RBI), I feel my next logical trade option would be either Fowler or Young Jr. Both have had excellent years thus far, although Fowler missed some time due to injury. I looked around the league and the Royals, Cubs, and Mets need leadoff hitters and centerfielders really bad/are in position to potentially make the playoffs. The Royals are 1.5 out of the Wild Card, while the Cubs and Mets are both 4.5 out. I would prefer to trade to the Royals because I think they have greater need. My first instinct was to flip Young Jr. to Royals because he is having a big season (at least by his stardards, high 300 OBP, 20+ steals.) and they Cain for the long-term. This being said It occured to me that they have a very similar player in Dyson. Although Dyson's stats are significantly worse I still think they would view him as very similar to Young Jr. In viewing several scouting reports, Cain seems to be on track to develop a good deal of power, my question is would it be realistic to trade Fowler to the Royals and they (meaning me) would move Cain to right to eventually replace Franceour?

The Royals are high on my list mostly because of there playoff position but also there system depth. Herrera is my primary target as he is so young and looks like a future closer IRL. In the game however, he has been rocked so hard he was demoted meaning I imagine his value would be way down. This leads me to my next question(s): What could I add to this deal to get the best return on Fowler? Should I do Young instead? Would the other two teams be more appropriate? If so who should I look for in return?

Mind you I am pursuing only players 25 and under and am specifically targeting people who could be fixtures in my bullpen, although I would take most prospects that have a chance to have an impact.

NOTE: Fowler has been having a big year when healthy, and to those who say he wouldn't fit anywhere but Coors, He is batting .345 on the road (Over 60% of his at bats). I don't have exact triple slash line but its something like .280/.360/.450 and he has like 15 steals.

EDIT: Colvin (I already traded CarGo) is on a tear and I am hoping to flip him to a contender closer to the deadline to get max value

Sorry for the long winded posts but I've learned the more information I post, the better.

Olt would be the first choice anyway if I can get the pieces. I just don't know what pieces I need to get for TEX.

I was looking at LAD and NYY as possible McCann landing spots after you mentioned them. Take the prospects from that deal and flip them (plus whoever else) for Olt.

I wasn't even aware of Liddi's existence. I like the projects. Could I do a prospect swap? One of my mid-C's straight up for Liddi? Spreadsheet says mid-C.
Getting Liddi in a straight prospect swap like you said is definitely a go. Given the pitching them in the Mariners system, I'd opt for an upside bat in return along the terms of a mid-to-high C.

Olt is tricky given how you'd have to swing one deal to make another. It's certainly worth looking into but it's hard to say exactly what you need to give up to get him (Olt). The Rangers need an OF prospect so try get someone like Mason Williams or Slade Heathcott from the Yankees. The Dodgers seem more stacked on the pitching side of the minors so maybe you can snag an arm or two from them. Say you where to get Heathcott from Yankees, you could ship him and someone like Terdoslavich along with a tired prospect arm for Olt.

          Morneau for Griffin is fair.

You can get both Hochevar and Johnson for Weeks if you'd like to keep Smith? Or add another bullpen arm like Tim Collins from the Royals and add Smith to the deal as well.

Dangle Moss in another deal? Play him at DH or corner OF (like in his BOS/PIT days)

OK, so you want Herrera...for Fowler you could probably get him + Tim Collins + low B/high C prospect.

The issue with doing a trade with KC in the position they're in, is they may be reluctant to part with pen arms if they are in the race. So, Herrera being demoted helps you. If you take another pen arm like Crow/Holland/Collins, you'd want to replace the pen arm with a guy like Belisle.

            Fowler + Belisle + Chatwood for Crow + Herrera + high B prospect ?

That could be your future SU/Closer in Crow and Herrera. And you could look around and see which prospect you like best of theirs. Probably, anyone besides Zimmer and Starling are available. I might suggest looking into Yordano Ventura who could also be an electric pen arm.

The Mets probably have the bigger need for an OF, and you could get also young pen arms like Mejia, Familia, and Tapia in a deal based around Dexter Fowler. Tapia is the Mets poor man's version of Yordano Ventura. You might also look at Bobby Parnell, who's a but older, but still < 30.

Honestly, I could see Fowler being sent to either KC or the Mets if they're both in contention, I think it would come down to what you want most in return. You seem to like Herrera, so KC might be the way to go.

Totte, it's early right now, just April 28th. When I get home from work, I'll give you an updated standings list to give you an idea where the teams are at, as well as the stats on those players at this time.

Like AC said, the spreadsheet is a great tool. Let me know some of that early season player stats and we can help set up a fair deal.

I'm thinking Iglesias could be expendable if Drew is playing well, Bogaerts is progressing nicely in the minors and if the Sox are contending and can get a nice haul by trading Iglesias. If the Sox are slumping and playing poor baseball, they're more likely to give up Drew and give Iglesias AB's in the majors

AC - to be honest I'm not great with trades lol. I've usually done the bs trades in the past for big name all stars but wanted to keep it as realistic as possible so was hoping for expert input hah

Do you guys see free agent reliever Brian Wilson as a reach for the Pirates? Coming off his second Tommy John surgery, he hasn't seen much activity in the free agent market.

The way Brandon Inge has performed for me thus far in my franchise, looking at current closer Jason Grilli who was basically down and out in Philly, I'd be willing to take a chance on him.

Obviously I'd try to sign him to a low contract, not sure if the computer would take it but definitely think he could help. I'd probably start him down in AA and see what he can do.

I don't think it's a reach. I did the same thing in my Rockies 'chise, and started him in AAA. If he does well, I plan on bringing him up in early-mid May.

I like the idea of having a former closer as a set-up man/backup closer in the 'pen.
