    Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread

Just got out of a bases loaded no outs jam in the 8th inning with David Robertson with a 1-0 lead in game 1 of the 2013 season with my Yankees. Im so pumped right now.
It’s easier to do the right thing, than to explain why you didn’t.

Just started my Twins Franchise. Beat the Tigers the first game of the season 6-2. I hit around Verlander a little bit in the third and jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Added a run in the fifth, seventh and eighth.

Game two up next. Sanchez vs. Correia

        Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread

Playing an Astros fantasy draft franchise and I'm killing it so far. I've played every game but will probably start simming some of them. I got the number one pick (using OSFM roster) and took Clayton Kershaw. Took Bryce Harper and Adam Jones with my back-to-back 2nd and 3rd picks. Not real sure why or how Harper lasted until the last pick of the 2nd round, but I'm not complaining. He's a stud in the game as he is in real life.

I'm off to a 9-3 start; took 2 of 3 from the Rangers; swept the Athletics. Took 2 of 3 from the Mariners; and took 2 of 3 from the Angels. Kershaw has been incredible in his 3 starts:

        9.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 13 SO
        9.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 8 SO
        9.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 12 SO

        27 IP, 11 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 33 SO, 0.33 ERA, 0.41 WHIP

I've got a 10 game hitting streak going with Adam Jones, who's hitting .347 with 5 HR and 14 RBI in 12 games. Harper is hitting .340 with 3 HR and 7 RBI. I've got Jemile Weeks hitting lead-off and he's batting .347 with 1 HR, 3 RBI, and an OBP of .393. I'm awful at drawing walks (too impatient) but I've managed to draw 4 with Weeks so far.

Interestingly enough, my two highest scoring games have come off Adam Wainwright and Chris Sale. Scored 10 runs in both games, roughing up Wainwright for 6 ER and Sale for 7 ER. I've actually struggled more with the 2nd-5th starters more than the staff aces so far for some reason.

          Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread

Just purchased 13' last night and I'm stoked! Jumped right in, using TNK's slider set, and start a Houston Astros franchise.

Opening NIGHT, Bud Norris and the Houston Astros put their new divisional rivals, the Texans Rangers down, 6-2. Norris lasted 6 innings, giving up 2 earned runs on 4 hits and 3 walks. He also had 5 strikeouts for the game.

Fernando Martinez was the POG. Martinez went 2-2, with 2 walks, and an added RBI.

Man, it was good to pick this game up again. But what got me most excited was that I was being patient and drawing some walks. I was also giving up some walks, which is RARE, but more realistic IMO. Had 8 strikeouts, while batting, with the Houston Astros. But I am appeased because I also had 5 crucial walks.

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, reading other people's franchise progress, and also keep putting my input in. My only complaint with the first game was that I should've swung at more solid pitches. But a win is a win!

Well, Texas came to town for a 4 game set and this was a good opportunity to see exactly what this team had. Game 1 featured Felix Hernandez and he pitched a complete game 1 hit shut out with Lance Berkman breaking up the no hitter in the 7th inning. Games 2 & 3 were all Texas as the pitching was not very good and the hitting wasn't timely. Game 4 was all Seattle through 7 with Blake Bevan pitching his 2nd good game in a row after the opening start debacle. Texas took the lead though off the bull pen in the 8th inning. Mike Morse has woken up and has lifted the Mariner offense with 3 homeruns in the series and a big 2 run homerun in the bottom of the 8th to retake the lead 4-3, but Tom Wilhelmsen gave up 2 runs in the top of the 9th for his 2nd blown save of the season.

Kendrys Morales is 2nd in the American League with a .393 average, but is only 1 for 12 with runners in scoring position. He leads in doubles (7), hits (23) & runs scored (13).

Mike Morse has started to jack homeruns and has 6 on the season now with 14 RBI's. Dustin Ackley had a 2 homerun game in game 2 of the series and Kendrys Morales has a solo homerun as well. The team as a whole hasn't hit many, but that's to be expected and at least they are starting to get one every once in a while with Morse hitting a couple clutch shots lately.

The rotation has been a bit of a mess for me. Hernandez, Iwakuma & Saunders have been really good and Bevan is coming along, but I am not sold on Ramirez and have started Hector Noesi once in his place and pulled him early for Jeremy Bonderman in his 2nd start. I might move 1 of those 2 to the rotation and move Ramirez to AAA soon, but I will not have a short leash and will see what he does in the future here.

Jason Bay has been a pleasant surprise. He has 5 doubles and sports an average over .300 in limited play and may push Morse into a full time DH role with Bay in left as his defensive numbers are better. That means Justin Smoak will see the most time on the bench as I can swap Morales and Morse between 1st and DH. I have thought about putting Morse at 3rd to see what he can do there as Kyle Seager is struggling at the plate hitting .140 with 3 RBI's, but I think if I move anyone there it will be Robert Andino which is also hitting over .300 and has seen playing time, but not as much as the starters.

So many thoughts running through my head to get the hot players on the field and I am liking this team a lot as I got a lot of pieces I can move around to get everyone a fair amount of playing time. Along with the training aspect to get certain guys better where I want them to and looking forward to the 11th pick in the draft and hopefully finding my cornerstone CFer there I am having a good time thinking about and playing all the games.

I have a question for conversation amongst Mariner chise users if any or anyone else for that matter. What do you guys plan to do with the catcher situation when Zunino is ready to make the move? Which one do you keep, do you move one to 1st or another position if possible and if you deal one of them what are you looking for in return?
Theres no way the M's trade Jesus, in your chise if Smoak is sucking, in the off season trade him and put Montero at first (which will happen if he dosent produce) or if he's good, make him your permanent DH.
Ducks, Mariners, Blazers, Lillard, Favre, Iverson, Griffey, Hernandez, Hawks, Wilson,

            My Mariners dynasty!

              Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread

              Minnesota fantasy draft

              Lineup

              C Grandal
              1B Hosmer
              2B Frandsen
              3B Prado
              SS Tulowitzki
              LF Harper
              CF Revere
              RF Reddick
              DH Morse

              Rotation

              Strasburg
              Moore
              Floyd
              Zito
              Britton

              Bullpen

              Rosenthal
              N. Jones
              Coleman
              Kirkman
              Crow
              Brothers
              Chapman

Had to construct some trades with all the prospects I drafted, and not the best team overall wise, but it's mostly all players I like to play with. And I even sprinkled in some older guys so I can feel like I wasn't cheating the draft too much since the computer doesn't accurately target the younger players with good futures ahead.

Finished the first game of the season, a close 4-3 victory over Detroit w/ Sabathia, Stanton, R. Howard, Ackley, C. Santana, Quentin, Thome, Alvarez to give you an idea. Strasburg K'd 12 in seven fine innings, then the bullpen had a shaky 8th before Chapman shut it down. Howard went deep on me twice, both solo. I didn't hit a HR, but scored all mine on some long doubles and triples. Didn't realize how much space Target field has in the outfield, a couple of those hits I thought were homers for me, but they stayed in the park barely.

In my Miami Marlins franchise I'm 10-9. I signed Roy Oswalt and Jim Thome. I will say my relief pitchers are terrible. Just downright terrible.

                    Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread

Okay I was going to wait until the end of the series to make this post but i just had a great game and i need to share!

Well first I should tell you that my team is doing awesome. We are 8-2 at the moment after sweeping the Reds and taking 2/3 from the White Sox. The bats did come alive in Cin as i was hoping. Some people are struggling and some are doing well, but ill get to that later.

First game of the Braves series was crazy. Detwiler and Maholm start off the game throwing 3 perfect innings each (Detwiler 4 actually). But in the 4th, my main man Bryce Harper hit a solo shot to give me the 1-0 lead. Trotting out for the fifth Detwiler strikes out the first batter (Upton i think) on 3 pitches. Then on the first pitch to McCann, he gets injured. Stamman comes in and gets out of that inning. The next inning however he gives up two runs. I threaten in the bottom of the 8th, but i get nothing. they bring in Kimbrell for the 9th so i think the game is going to be over. LaRoche starts off with a leadoff double then the very next pitch, Desmond doubles and the game is tied. In the tenth i bring in Henry Rodriguez and he gives up a run after a leadoff double. Braves bring in Johnny Ventors (once again i think it is over). Span gets a base hit up the middle to start it off. Werth goes down in the count 0-2. Span steals second on the next pitch. count is now 1-2. Next pitch, Werth doubles to right-center field and the game is tied with Bryce hitting. Bryce smokes one to RF but it was hit so hard that Werth froze a little and couldnt score on the base hit. Runners at 1st and 3rd for Zimmerman. Zim just hits an easy sac fly to deep center to win the game. This is why I love this game!

                    Some stats:
                    Bryce- .381 5HR 10RBI 3SB and a 10 game hitting streak
                    Zim- .310 2HR 7RBI
annnnnnd everyone else is playing poorly. like batting under .250 poorly.

                    Strasburg- 1-0 14IP 18K 0.64ERA
                    Haren- 2-0 0.56ERA 0.48 WHIP 6K 16IP

The next game is game 2 of a 3 game series with the Braves and it is Strasburg vs Medlin. don't worry i will keep you guys updated!

                      N4E's Pittsburgh Pirates Franchise

-- Pittsburgh headed out to the West coast and looked to give the Dodgers their 1st loss of the young season, the starting pitching in all 3 games looked rock solid early on but the Dodgers offense in all 3 games had a inning that crushed the Pirates hope. Andre Ether was the key to the offense, to go along with the strong starting pitching. Andrew McCutchen really struggled (1-9) with 5 strike outs, he'll look to rebound in the upcoming series vs the Diamondbacks (4-2).

                        Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread

Starting a little bit better than the real life Yankees. I am sitting at 3-3 1gm behind the Red Sox who are at 4-2. I took 2 of 3 from the Sox to open the season but only took 1 of 3 when I went to Detroit.

All i have to say is Miguel Cabrera is a beast in this game. Game 3 of that series was a heart breaker for the Yankees. CC was pitching ok and the Yankees staked him out to a 5-0 lead thanks to 2 2run hr from Cano and a solo shot by Overbay. Things were going great up until the 5th where CC ran into some trouble. He gave up a solo shot to Cabrera and before I knew it, after a few singles and a couple of walks, I was only up 5-4 by the time the inning ended. CC settled down a bit and was able to give the Yankees a good 7 innings before calling for the bullpen. I was able to scratch another run in the top of the 8th to make the score 6-4. I bring in Robertson in the 8th and he gives up a single to Austin Jackson. I strike out Santiago. Cabrera is up next and blasts his 2nd HR of the game, a 2 run shot to tie the game. Game went into extra innings and in the 11th inning, the Tigers win the game on a walk off double by Jackson. Tough loss. Off the Cleveland next.

I'm 3-4 so far in my Red Sox franchise. To open the season I lost two of three to the Yankees, then I took two of three from Toronto. In my last game I lost my home opener to Baltimore 6-4 in 14 innings.

I don't have the stats in front of my, but Ellsbury and Pedrioa have been my catalyst offensively. Salty has had some big moments as well. Everyone else has gotten off to slow starts (especially Bradley and Ciriaco). Most of my hits have been singles or HR's, but that could be a slider issue.

Lester has been average at best in his first two starts. Dempster and Lackey have been about what we thought they would be (okay not great) and Buckholz and Doubront both have been promising. The bullpen has been decent, with the exception of Andrew Bailey who has had two horrible outings.

It's still really early in the season and I'm not looking to make any big moves yet. However, I would be in the market for a left handed relief pitcher if the right opportunity presented itself.

Well, after a while of thinking of which team I should use, I stuck with the Astros. I tried playing as another team but it didn't feel right lol. I started yesterday but just did training, fixing the line-ups, and fixed the rotation/bullpen. My bullpen is terrible, at least their ratings are, so I may look throught the free agents and sign a young RP. Today when I get home I will fix who is in the minors and who needs to be in AAA and AA. Then I will play my first game, and I will be using the play 1 Sim 5 strategy. I do have a question for anyone that is using an astros chise, what do you have Carlos correa playing in, triple A or Double A? I was thinking of starting him off in AA then promote him after the all star break if he is doing well. Just curious what others are doing with him.

After just one game in my Yankees franchise thinking bout starting over and going with the Indians, Reds or Cubs. Oh boy here we go again. This is why I have alot of trouble getting deep into franchise mode. Trying to convince myself to stick it out.
It’s easier to do the right thing, than to explain why you didn’t.

Just started my Orioles franchise on Thursday, and I'm liking the way I've been playing. Def. playing better than last year. Already had a couple of close victories, and I'm sitting pretty a 6-3 right now.

Finished up a game a bit ago against the Yankees. Matchup was Bundy vs C.C. and I had my doubts that I was going make the game interesting. Bundy got rough up in the 2nd and allowed 3. But he kept it going and didn't allow another run until I took him out. C.C. on the other hand was on fire until he had 2 outs. I seemed to score when C.C. had 2 outs as he would play it safe and I was taking advantage of it.

We get to the 9th and I'm down by one after scoring 2 runs in the 8th to cut to lead to that. Danny Valencia of all people hits a solo home run to tie it. And then in the 11th, I go off and score 5 runs thanks to Johnathon Succop's pinch hit 2 RBI double to start the fire. Won the game 11-6. Great game, love extra inning games.
