Kansas City Royals - 2013 -June Update

    Record - 42 - 33
1st place AL central (4 game lead)

Another month down. Another starter out. The Kansas City Royals organization has decided to take out insurance on players legs. Irving Falu breaks his shin and is now out 1-2 months. Just when we get as guy back. Another goes down. And somehow we are still in 1st. 14-12 in June to increase out lead by 1.5 games.

John Lamb continues to play great in a rotation that only has one guy with an ERA over 4. He is 3-1 with a 2.87. Wade Davis is by far the best pitcher for us this year. 10-2 with a 3.66. James Shield is the biggest disappointment. 5-6 with a 4.35. But he has gotten things together his last few starts.

Eric Hosmer and Alex Gordon are our best hitters. Hoz with a .314 AVG, 12 HR and 46. Gordon at .293 with 12 HR and 46 RBI.

      Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread

After finally putting down 12' about a month or so ago, I picked up what I could not finish last year. I took my Royals through 3 long seasons making realistic trades and trying to build a strong contender. However after finishing up my third season, failing again. (losing to the Oakland A's in a play in game) I figured it was time to upgrade and grab MLB 13.

I have been moving at a pretty quick pace this time around, I do the sim 5, play 1 thing but I rarely follow it as I see some pitching matchups or rivalries that I HAVE to play. The goal of my franchises as always is realism of what I control, I don't do the 30-team control, It is too much time for me and I will just get frustrated keeping everything perfect. I like to keep my lineup and rotation to what you would see at Kauffman Stadium.

I am also using TNK's Realism sliders

So anyway, I just reached the All-Star break, and surprisingly my Kansas City Royals are sitting at first place in the AL Central with a 6.5 game lead over the Tigers!

      AL Central Standings
      Kansas City Royals 55-39
      Detroit Tigers 49-46 6.5 GB
      Cleveland Indians 48-47 7.5 GB
Chicago White Sox 42-52 13.0 GB
      Minnesota Twins 36-59 19.5 GB

The Rolls have been on fire baby, My team batting average is .275 and a 4.00 team ERA to go along with it. We hovered around .500 until about mid may and then absolutely caught fire. I even remember at one point it got up to a 10 game win streak, then we dropped one to Detroit and picked up 5 straight more.

2013 Kansas City Royals Notables (as of All-Star Break)

      The offense has been money

-Billy Butler: .304 Avg, 20 HR, 67 RBI
-Mike Moustakas .323 Avg, 18 HR, 52 RBI
-Eric Hosmer .278 Avg, 12 HR, 47 RBI
-Alcides Escobar (SS Jesus) .278 Avg, 3 HR, 42 RBI, 18 SB
-Salvy Perez .296 Avg, 10 HR, 45 RBI
-Miguel Tejada .325 Avg off the bench.
-Jarrod Dyson 16 SB in only 80 At-bats.

Billy is just being Billy, as a matter of fact, the game I just played ended with him hitting an opposite field, 2 run homerun to give me the lead in the top of the 9th against the Yanks to win it. Moustakas is performing nothing like his real life counterpart, plate discipline has been amazing and I can pretty much expect a hit every time he gets up to bat.

My two favorite things out of the above stats has got to be the way Alcides and Dyson have been performing for me. Escobar was in a huge slump for most of the season (batting around .220) then all of the sudden something clicked and the kid has been hitting lights out, I also love his swing, he is by far the hitter who I am most confident with when I play instead of sim. All I have to say for Jarrod is "That's what speed do"

Pitching Notables, 2013 Kansas City Royals

      James Shields: 5-7, 4.61 ERA
      Ervin Santana: 10-3, 3.30 ERA
      Wade Davis: 8-4, 3.27 ERA
      Felipe Paulino: 1-1, 3.47 ERA
Greg Holland: 34 SV, 3.18 ERA

Pitching has been solid and is getting even better. I brought back Paulino at the end of June (I believe this is his true timetable for his Tommy Jon in the offseason) and he added to an already strong rotation. Shields ERA is kind of high but it is nice to have that confident number one starter I can go to (I'm still rationalizing for the Myers trade). Santana has been my best performer all year, I love throwing that slider of his and he racks up the K's. My bullpen has been strong also, even Hochevar is out there throwing well, Herrera and Holland are a great combo to set up and save.

Overall I am having A LOT of fun with this franchise. I will admit I definitely did not see me having a 7 game lead on the Detroit Tigers but this is baseball and everything eventually evens out, I'm sure it will make for an extremely entertaining playoff race near the end of the season. I plan on bringing Duffy up maybe into the bullpen and have him throw a little but, with the way the rotation is doing I think I'll keep the five I have now in place. With the way the team is doing it's all about winning this year and I will assess the roster in the off season, but for now, WE WIN.

Thanks for readin yall, I'll have some more updates every now and then.

In September of my Brewers 'chise but both Lohse and Ramirez have regressed to low 70s. Checked out the latest roster update and simmed a season and both guys remained as high 80s. I'm pretty sure this is because they both started off with higher ratings and Lohse was upped to "A" potential.

Am I making too big a deal about possibly starting over with that newer roster? It just sucks when guys who are important to your 'chise are regressing so quickly that I need to look for replacements this year.

PS both guys have had a really good year in my current franchise so their regression must be solely based on age. I think when ratings are above a certain point they may regress slower?

So my offense has been way down in the month of may and we're 4.5GB of Miami. In trying to avoid the sweep at home by the Phils, Tim Hudson spins a gem but we go to extra innings tied at 1-1. Top 12 the Phils touch up Cory Wade for two runs so down 3-1 I have the middle part of the lineup coming up. We get two quick singles from Evan Gattis and Francisco Cervelli followed by two quick outs. Pinch hitting Eric Chavez doubles in both runs to tie it and we go to the 13th. A quick 1,2,3 and I'm back to the top of the order. Jeter starts with a single and moves to second on Jose Bautista's weak in ground out. Next up, Granderson laces a 1-1 slider just inside the first base bag for the walk-off hit and 4-3 win.

Game two against the visiting O's, they have Sabathia while I pitch Halladay. Another duel as we eventually head to the bottom of the 9th down 3-1 again. Two outs, Bautista on first, Granderson hits a bomb to right and this it at 3-3. Fast forward bottom 11th, 2 out Granderson singles, steals second, then Evan Gattis down 1-2 shoots one back up the middle for the walk off hit.

Just two sick back to back extra inning games.

              Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread

I’ve reached September 2014 in my Royals Dynasty and there are some exciting developments in the playoff hunt.

              AL Central Standings
              Royals 76-54
              Tigers 72-58 4.0 GB
              Twins 65-66 11.5 GB
              Indians 60-71 16.5 GB
              White Sox 54-76 22.0 GB

              AL Wild Card Standings
              Angels 74-56
              Tigers 72-58
              Blue Jays 70-59 1.5 GB
              Twins 65-66 7.5 GB

Updates: With the season grind usually comes a wave of injuries and unfortunately this team isn’t any different. SP Madison Bumgarner is out 1-2 weeks with a sprain elbow ligament. SP Alex Meyer has moved from the bullpen to fill the open spot in the rotation. After performing well in AAA, SP Kyle Zimmer has been called up for long relief duty. 1B Brandon Belt and C Salvador Perez are both on the 60-Day DL with a broken forearm and a torn finger ligament respectively. Belt will return at the beginning of October just in time to make the playoff roster, while Perez is out for the rest of the year. This means that C George Kottaras will take over catching duties with C David Parish backing him up after being recalled from AAA Omaha.

              Lineup
              1) Dee Gordon, SS .248 4 HR 72 H
              2) Alcides Escobar, CF .242 3 HR 19 RBI
              3) Alex Gordon, LF .276 24 HR 69 RBI
              4) Eric Hosmer, 1B .279 15 HR 74 RBI
              5) Mike Moustakas, 3B .297 13 HR 65 RBI
              6) Lorenzo Cain, DH .253 9 HR 41 RBI
              7) Irving Falu, 2B .234 1 HR 23 RBI
              8) Jeff Francoeur, RF .249 18 HR 56 RBI
              9) George Kottaras, C .259 9 HR 34 RBI

              Rotation
              1) James Shields 11-7 2.91 ERA
              2) Alex Meyer 3-2 3.93 ERA
              3) Homer Bailey 12-3 3.14 ERA
              4) Wei Yin Chen 8-6 3.40 ERA
              5) Wade Davis 7-11 4.39 ERA

Final Comments: With a month to go things are looking pretty good. The Royals have a great chance to make the playoffs and have taken control of the division from the Tigers. The main concern is whether this team can produce runs come playoff time. At the moment, only 3B Mike Moustakas is hitting above .280. The pitching has been outstanding, but runs have been tough to come by and there is a lack of power in the lineup made worse by C Salvador Perez’s absence. To put things in perspective, the Royals have scored 522 runs this season while giving up 500 runs. Those are both close to MLB lows. In farm system news, the 2014 MLB draft yielded some solid prospects for the Royals with the top two players being LF Guy Gonzales (age 19, 72 rating, A potential) and RF William Howell (age 20, 65 rating, A potential). Gonzales is expected to compete for a roster spot in the majors next season.

Man, Moose always rakes for me, at one point in my 12' chise he finished a season batting .334 and almost had the batting title. As for Santana I think it's luck of the draw. More surprising than Santana is Wade Davis for me, he lead the league in ERA for the first month and a half or so.

Kansas City Royals - 2014 - Halfway Update

                    Record - 45 - 36
1st place AL central (5 game lead)

At the half way point. We are doing just about as good as i had hoped. On pace for our 1st 90 win season since 1989. And our first playoff appearance since we won the 85' World Series. How we have this many wins with all our injuries is amazing.

Out Hitting has been pretty good. Hosmer has been a surprise. Billy has been the biggest disappointment. But he was around the same average this time last year. And finished with a .286 AVG. So hopefully he gets it together.

Pitching has been Great. Couldnt really ask from more after the pitchers we have had in the past. Shields could be doing better. Wade Davis has been good. And John Lamb has been great in his first 8 starts.

Just threw a no hitter with max scherzer, had a perfect game going into the 9th and I walked my first batter. He is 6-0 with a 2.64 era on the season. I'm currently 26-10 with tigers. Hunter is 1st in MVP with .338 avg 15 hr 38 RBI

Walked Jesus Montero 3-2 in the 8th change up in the dirt. Continued to finish the no hitter with Wie Yin Chen. If I could do it over I would do the same thing ..

It's May 2nd in my Miami franchise. I'm 17-11 and tied for first with Washington. I ended up trading Jim Thome to the White Sox for RP Jesse Crain.

                            Ok I need some help....
I abandoned my mets franchise because they are horrifyingly bad (I'll admit it)
I want a new team to play as that is a middle of the road team that has a good minor league system
                            Thanks in advance!

                                Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread

Finally got around to continuing my Astros franchise. When I continued, I was 1-1 on the season.

We were in the middle of a 4-game series with the Angels, and Brad Peacock was starting Game 3. He threw a hell of a ballgame. 7 innings of shutout ball. He got into trouble a few times, but always got out of it. Cosart closed the game out pitching the 8th and 9th inning.

George Springer finally had his coming out party. He hit 2 home runs (1 inside the park HR, and the other a solo shot to left) and went 3-4. Chris Carter had a big game going 4-4 with 2 doubles.

We won 7-0 to improve our record to 2-1.

In the 4th game, it was a completely different story. Jair Jurrjens didn't have his best stuff and he got rocked for 8 runs in the first 3 innings. We stuck with them for a while (James Maxwell hit a two-run double and a 3-run HR), but their offense went insane.

The final score was 21-8, which dropped our record to 2-2.

Even though I got hammered, I'm still loving this team. I'm just a few pieces away from being a very good team.
