So I have my franchise going with the Yankees and it's going great.
But, I am looking to start another franchise with a team completely different from them. What are some teams who are basically the complete opposite of the Yankees? Open to any suggestions

        Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread

Just got swept by the Rangers in the ALDS and am headed to the off season. I have NEVER finished a season in a baseball game, but this game is too damn fun.

Because the A's did so well, we get a 10% budget increase. Very excited about that. It could mean being able to retain a good young player or adding a very solid vet to upgrade a position.

Game 1 ALDS vs Detroit. Their line up is:
          Jackson
          Jemile Weeks
          Cabrera
          Fielder
          Zobrist
          Martinez
          Dirks
          Avila
          Peralta

I don't interrupt CPU trades during season. I'm the Yanks.

Played with injuries during the season with expected return dates but once I passed dates I didn't update new injuries. Let it play out.

Nice work on making it all the way through the season. I am currently at the end of May with the Indians in my own and feel the same.

Anyone specific you have your eye on for next season?

Thanks man! I can't believe I made it through. This game is awesome, and once I saw that I was almost certainly going to win the West, that allowed me to pick up the simming and get through the year. I liked that approach.

So in terms of the offseason, it's always tough with OAK. Retaining my own guys was enough of a challenge. I had to deal with significant salary demands from Anderson, Milone, Parker, Doolittle, Cook, Balfour, Moss, and Reddick.

Coupled with that was the fact that the initial free agent market was pretty bleak. I am looking at David Murphy and Michael Young, but not much beyond that.

My sense, from my first offseason ever, is that it's way better to pay up for scouts, retain your youngsters, and only pay a handful of guys over $1M. I did a survey of the roster, and only 5 players earned $1M or more on the entire A's roster. That was surprising.

Now that I'm doing this, I have no idea how smaller market teams stay competitive, lol. It sucks to have a guy come up and know you can't keep him beyond his initial contract. I'm already worried about Cespedes. I love that guy!

                      ALDS game 2 preview.

                      Kuroda (12-12, 4.09 ERA) vs Scherzer (13-13, 4.54 ERA)

                      Yankees Line-Up:
                      CF. Gardner
                      SS. Jeter
                      2B. Cano
                      1B. Teixeira
                      LF. Granderson
                      3B. Youkilis
                      DH. Hafner
                      RF. Ichiro
                      C. Cervelli

                      Tigers Line-Up:
                      CF. Jackson
                      2B. Weeks
                      3B. Cabrera
                      1B. Fielder
                      LF. Dirks
                      C. Avila
                      SS. Peralta
                      DH. Martinez
                      RF. Zobrist

A-Rod missed the majority of my season, playing in about the last 20 games. He had 3Ks in game 1 and YOuk's has held it down. Hafner had been my DH for 3/4th of my season before hitting a slump but was battling around 290 for a long time. Youk's and Hafner have both showed and proved for me all season so I'm giving them the nod this game. A-Rod might not get a chance to show what he has left for the remaining post season.

Also, the Athletics beat the Angels in the wild card, and the Braves beat the Diamondbacks.

Athletics vs Rangers is tied at 1, dodgers are up 1-0 vs the Brewers (these guys pitched lights out this year), and the Washington is up 1-0 vs Atlanta.

Its about to happen. The greatest comeback in MLB history is just around the corner. Down 18 games out of first place starting second half of the season, the Rays have been climbing up and the number sets down to 5.5. Exactly one month is what's left of the season. Can the Rays make it?

                          ALDS Game 2 Results:
                          2-3

                          W Pitcher: Alburquerque 2.0 IP, 0.00 ER
                          L Pitcher: Pettite .1 IP, 1ER.

                          Game Log (scoring innings):

                          Bottom of the First:
Jackson grounded to Cano, 4-3. Weeks grounded between short and third, thrown out at 2nd by Granderson trying to stretch for extra base. Cabrera homered to left. Fielder doubled to left. Dirks flies out to Gardner, F8.

                          Top of the Third:
Ichiro 2B to left. Cervelli Flied out to Jackson, F8. Ichiro advances to 3rd. Gardner sac fly, Ichiro scores. Jeter Flied out to dirks, F7.

                          Bottom of the Third:
Jackson doubled to center. Weeks grounded to center for a RBI single. Cabrera grounded into 4-6-3 DP. Fielder grounds to Cano, 4-3.

                          Top of the 9th:
Granderson strikes out on 1-2 high FB. Youkilis homers to left. Hafner HBP. Nunez pinch runs for Hafner. Ichiro grounds into 6-4-3.

                          Bottom of the 11th:
Jackson doubles to right. Weeks flies out to Ichiro, Jackson advances to 3B. Cabrera reaches first on FC, Jackson scores.

So mad at myself. I had an opportunity to have Nunez PR for Hafner earlier but was like, no I'll be ok. I try to reach third with 1 out after a sac fly and they turn the double ending the inning.
Then on the last play of the game I throw it to home, Jackson is like 5 feet from the plate, I try to get Romine to face Jackson and he runs backwards and Jackson scores uncontested.

Shawn Kelley pitched 4 innings, I kept him in because he was giving me so much momentum. 4 IP, 1 hit, 6 K's.

                            Trades I made:

7/18/13: (Dodgers and Yankees) Acquired Hanley Ramirez, Carl Crawford, and Brandon League from the Dodgers for Alex Rodriguez, Curtis Granderson, and Joba Chamberlain

7/22/13 (Trade that was offered to me by the Reds that I accepted) Acquired Xavier Paul, Carlos Contreras and Homer Bailey from the Reds for Clay Rapada

7/28/13: (Phillies and Yankees) Acquired Roy Halladay and Antonio Bastardo from the Phillies for Phil Hughes, Ivan Nova, and Carl Crawford

Notes on my moves: Arod was coming off the DL and I have grown tired of him and I am a big fan of Hanley Ramirez so I wanted to see if I could move Arod to the Dodgers (Prolly the only team with the deep pockets to afford Arod's contract). The only way the Dodgers would accept Arod was with Granderson in the mix. I decided to include Crawford in the deal to fill in for Granderson.

The Reds offered me Homer Bailey and 2 prospects for Clay Rapada so i decided to accept. Homer is having an ok season but I like the way he pitches so I decided to accept that deal.

Nova and Hughes were not having good seasons at all for me. They both lost their last 4 appearances and have been giving up a ton of HRs. I tried everything to help them snap out of it...moving them the pen, skipping a start here and there, and even sending Hughes down the Minors but nothing seemed to help. I just couldnt pitch with them. I decided to see if I can get a left handed RP in a trade to help logan out in my pen as he was my lone lefty there. I checked with the Phillies and they liked Nova and Hughes enough to let me have Holladay and Bastardo. I decided to throw in Crawford (Not a big fan of his) and the deal was accepted the next day.

Just took Game 3 of the ALDS in the Bronx, 4-5.

Avila Homered, and Peralta homered twice.

I knocked Sanchez out after 3.0, he had given up 5 walks and 4 runs.

Jeter had a 2B, and Cano homered.

                              Pineda posted 6.0, 7 hits, 3 runs, 5 Ks, 2BB
Logan and Robertson combined for 2.0 and no hits.
Rivera gave up a HR to Peralta in the bottom of the 9th but still came out with the save.

WSH vs ATL: WSH leads 2-1

Yankees run the Tigers out of the Bronx to take the ALDS 3-1. The Tigers attempted to run Verlander in game 4 on short rest and it backfired.
