Nice. I hope some of my pitchers can go deep into games like that, but then again, I am the Astros lol.

I started up a Season with the Astros. I am going to play a little spring training to see how good bench players and relievers are. Playing the first ST game tomorrow.

Oscar Tavares was the star of triple A progressing to a 92 overall and hitting .320/37/104 with a call up to the majors, and some solid drafting left the Mariners looking lean, mean, young, and ready to roll.

Awesome move keep us updated !
I play MLB exclusively with my cousin. Usually looking for info on Franchises. We played minor league baseball as 9-10 YOs on the Zephyrs.

Waiting for roster, but will start a franchise, just don't know with who. I plan to play all the games since I been playing all games since 09. I have time, I am a teacher.

What is a good team to play with. I am thinking nationals or rangers

I'm a Tigers fan but can't seem to bring myself to be them, although could probably win the whole thing. But with that being said was thinking of either the Stro's or the Cubbies since they both lost 100+ last year. Astro's are just plain terrible and the Cubbies cant seem to get off the schnide. What do you guys think?

The nationals have a great young core with solid pitching. they would def be alot of fun to play with.

After falling off the side of a cliff for the second half, the mariners also had a rough free agency time. Losing some budget money, we were not able to keep kyle seager or dustin ackley, so the opening line up is weaker than last year, but there are some good prospects down on the farm, our only concern is budget, we only have 6 million to play with so we need a good season.

                  Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread

the 2015 season was absolutely disastrous for the M's, losing 93 games, and we had to trade Jesus Montero, as he was entering the last year of a 15 million dollar deal, and we still came in over budget after all was said and done, losing shelby miller in FA.

2016 wasnt much better, the one bright spot was Rookie Barry Peterson, our right fielder, he hit .302/47/131 on his way to winning ROY and MVP, (mike trout who) but we still went 70-92 but had alot of budget increases, we held a share of the division lead after 33 games, but we collapsed from there on out.

2017 - i think the show will only let me win a max of 71 games, cause thats how we did again, terrible. time to put this chise on hold for a little and try a different stratagy.

one thing i noticed (and ill post this in a few other forums too) the pitching is just horrendous, I have a 98,96,94,89 and all ERAs were 5+. the league leaders are: (all stats are from a 2017 sim season, I didnt play any games, budgets trades both on)
                  AL

                  Jacob Turner 3.40
                  Jeremy Hellickson 3.53
                  Tim Fielder 3.59
                  Roberto Ponce 3.76
                  Chris Sale 3.88
                  Stefan Ruiz 4.04
                  Verlander 4.20
                  Tommy Milone 4.22
                  Banuelos 4.26
                  Medlin 4.37
                  Zimmer 4.45
                  Moore 4.49

Yu darvish lead the league in strike outs with 197, verlander w/ 141

                  NL (actally significantly better)
                  Whitney 3.12 (112 K's)
                  strasburg 3.25
                  hudson 3.27
                  billingsley 3.32
                  bumgarner 3.32
                  hamels 3.45
                  latos 3.48
                  brett anders 3.50
                  Reardon 3.62
                  Buckel 3.64
                  Zimmerman 3.75
                  Kershaw 3.88 (168 K's)

And offense is incredible in the AL
                  42 players hit 100 RBI +
                  30 had 30 HR +
                  21 Batted .300 +

                  NL
                  15 batted 300+ (votto 357)
                  18 hit 30 + hr (league leader 48)
                  25 W/ 100 + rbi

Votto had an OPS of 1.018 and Fielder had 1.022
Votto Slugged .580 and Mario Buatista .639

And the K/9 ratings for guys were never above 80, (in 2016 I put my team pitchers all at 92 K/9 and no one had more than 172 K's)

Idk if this will help anyone or anything, but it just looked like I got pretty far into a sim season so I posted the stats)

                    Whatsup guys?

I am new to franchise mode, well not really I've been trying to learn how to play it for a very long time. I was hoping that I could get some help from the experts!

My goal is simple: i would like to take a team that has a decent sized budget (around the upper middle strata of teams) through a phase of rebuilding and win a world series.

I am an Orioles fan but I do not know very much about baseball metrics and strategies and all the tons of stuff that you have to know to play franchise mode.

So I was really hoping you guys could help me learn how to play franchise mode at least passably well, I REALLY want to learn this game...its so frustrating that I can't figure it out. It's been a long time playing last years and I feel like a toddler who is randomly throwing toys around with no comprehension of what they do or why.

                    thanks in advance

St. Louis might work, though their budget might be too high, Houston has some talent in the minors, Kansas City is pretty good. But beware, simming might lead to terrible results

Im going to try kansas city probably, are there any strategies I need to keep in mind with franchise mode?

                        any golden rules?

I like the overhaul of scouting I think scouting sucked balls last year.

I would like some advice on contracts who I should sign, I tried last time I played to sign everyone to a long contract on Seattle.

Does simming yield bad results always?

Hey man, if you have the time then play all 162, it is so rewarding to play every game but if you don't have the time then play 1 game per series or 2 games per series for a divisional opponent. Simming doesn't yield bad results its just you never know how it will turn out so Eric Gordon could hit .200 with 10hrs and waste a season but that probably won't happen.

I suggest getting the best scouts possible that specialize in one area such as pitching or hitting and target players like crazy that have high potential.

The Royals have a slew of good young players that will only get better so I suggest looking to upgrade your rotation by adding a veteran because your bullpen and positional players are pretty good at the moment.

Just from what ive seen, the sim engine is a little screwed up this year. But for franchise mode dont be afraid to dump players, if your 10 games out at the break and someone is trying to give you a young A potential player for Jame Shields, I would do it. For Budgets and scouting, I try to get a scout for only pitchers and try and find lefties, 1 for infield with the contact/power 1 for infield for fielding/arm and 1 outfield guy for arm and power, but I wouldnt try and have a scouting budget of 13 million if your the royals in that first year (think of the players you could sign for 13 million) and for signing players in the offseason, I try to get all the A's and B's signed, then see what my budget left over is and if i need some fielders for the minor leagues. If you have the money, only spend it in free agency if your 1 piece away or trying to make a push, and dont sign like cliff lee or halladay (or any old guys) because the regression for 35+ players is drastic (-20 points).

Good Luck! (and stick with it if it doesnt work out, the new budget is great, after 5 years you should be looking at a 100 mil payroll, but hosmer, moose and odorizzi might want a combined 40 mil a year, so beware, budget rises with contracts.

thanks guys I reall do appreciate the input so much, does seem that Kansas City is poised to become a dynasty with all the young talent they have got.

I have another question, when I am sending my guys off to scout for hitters, what should I have them look for infield power and contact for example?

I havent quite decided who I am gonna go with Kansas City is already pretty much rebuilt and doesn't need much work to become pretty awesome in a few years.

                                is Pittsburgh a good candidate?

I dont' like teams with massive budgets bc then it seems too easy ya know?

anyway I am so glad that I am getting some input its an immense help
