    Re: Change New RTTS Presentation

For all the people complaining about people who just want a choice, what if they got rid of classic, analog, meter pitching and only had the option of pulse pitching? It's the same principle, how can choice be a bad thing?

      Re: Change New RTTS Presentation

I don't particularly have an opinion on this issue, but if SCEA is going to go this route, I feel like they need to expand on the "1st person" stuff even more. Maybe show me walking up to the plate, or out of the dugout, 1st person. Chatter at 1st base (or 3rd base) from the coach, after I get a hit. Things like that.

The commentary change was a great idea, but it does leave a void, and I think more can be done to fill it.

The more I play it the less I like the presentation and I am a RTTS vet with probably 2,000 games played (no joke). Bought bothi ps3 and vita version first day.

Love the game, love the developers and their obvious devotion to the fans here but I'm just bummed about the presentation design choice.

For the record, love the new fielding cams and the catch button etc. etc. Love the tails/parabola on the fly balls. The play by play thing takes some getting used to and I skip it most times but I definitely like it when I get on base to see how the inning shakes out or in close games. It was an addition that was needed.

The only thing I do not like is the presentation and I desperately miss the play by play. I understand the idea and having this "on the field" audio mode would have been a very cool addition but I agree that it should have been an option of some kind vs a default. Also i agree that the sporadic commentary is just... weird.

I'm guessing that the integration of the new stuff made making two kinds of presentation as options a programming difficulty. I get it. But man, I feel like I have no clue what's going on or what I've done so far in the game or season. Miss the overlays.

Also missing is maybe my favorite single part of RTTS: the replay of my monstrous home runs when I come up to bat again later. "We take you back to the third inning when he went deep!"

Anyway, not going to cry too much about it because the game is awesome and the developers absolutely care about their product but if there is any possible way to somehow add the option back, this particular player would be much, much appreciative.

Finally, can someone who knows for sure please explain the modulated audio? Is it supposed to simulate a radio? For the record, it would have been awesome if the games in Double-A had no announcers and the games in Triple-A were only "on the radio" but when you finally make The Show you get the full presentation. Kind of like the old NCAA games where games between small schools were not televised and hence had no announcers.

Anyway, this is my favorite sports franchise and I'm half a fanboi at this point but just keeping it real. I hope you consider this input going forward.

        Play ball, my brothas.

          Re: Change New RTTS Presentation

The thing I miss the most is seeing my stat overlays when I come to the plate. I agree, I like the old RTTS presentation. And for a game that prides itself on options, and does an amazing job to say the least in that regard, they really dropped the ball on this one.

I would like to see more of the coaches running through signs with maybe the spring training telling you what the indicator is and you remember all year. Also the base coaches telling back and maybe te caliber of third base coach helps you on sacrifice flys and stretching a double to triple.

              Re: Change New RTTS Presentation

I usually don't like to complain but in this instance I think I should share my opinion. I play on the Vita and the PS3. That being said, I love the new presentation on the Vita. It fits it very well, but I only have one issue with it (and this goes for the PS3 version also). It feels like, to me, that when you are in the groove and being "immersed"on the field, then, all of a sudden you are "ripped" out of your view, the camera pans out, along with the horrible "Whoosh" sound, then either commentary happens or not. It just feels off for some reason.

Now on the PS3 version I play a little differently. I like to play the whole game, watch everything that goes on in addition to my RttS player. On this system broadcast commentary, to me, was my preferred style. I love hearing when I stuck out the side, got hammered for a homerun or stopped a line drive with my neck (just happened last night LOL result = 6 week vacation due to a concussion) in addition to hearing about a fielder that robbed a HR or made an error, etc...

It just seems/feels like, again.. to me, that there is a lot of "dead air" with the new presentation. It may not be that way, but that is what it feels like.

I wish two things would happen
              - Since I love having options, because I realize what I like, others may not, is to have the option to turn on the old style (or choose not to). I would definetly use it for gameplay on the PS3, while using the new style on the Vita.

              - Find another alternative to the pulling out of your player and the "whooshing" sound. To me, it does more harm than good. It feels like it's taking you out of the moment (doesn't help that the commentary is hit or miss but I assume that a patch will fix that) and breaking up your player in the field experience. I don't know what I would do to fix it, maybe a pan to the side and/or a view from the batters box, bullpen or coach/manager focused on your player with commentary talking? But right now the pulling out to a sky view, then a player focused view is disjointed and feels like it's breaking the moment/experience.

I love the new additions to MLB13 and I don't want to go back to 12. As an RttS player mainly, it is really bugging me on the PS3. The saving grace for me is that I am having so many issues on the PS3 version, that I have been playing the Vita more, so it's not as bothersome to me and I am enjoying it, for now.

Sorry for the long winded post, but I felt I had to say something after reading Russell's post. I usually don't nit pick or complain and love everything The Show offers and appreciate what the Devs do. Still confused over major changes being done with no options given to use old or new this year though. Doesn't seem very Show like.

Then why not give an on/off option? Clearly, this is a polarizing topic, but I am surprised they went as far as to get rid of commentary in the manner that they did.

While I don't mind the new rtts presentation, this should absolutely be an option. The commentary/overlays are all there, so it just seems silly to disable them for the sake of realism. Its a video game after all. Hopefully the fine folks a scea realize it's about the customers and give us an option.

I just want options. It's too quiet without the commentary. Find myself listening to music while I play.

Yea, this is kind of bugging me as well. It's dull now. I use to like the stats overlays that would pop-up when I came up to bat showing the split stats like lefty versus righty pitchers/batting and Matt saying how well or bad I was doing.

Like someone else said, taking this option out isn't very The Show like, this is something EA would do.

I really love the show especially RTTS and this was very disappointing.

agree 100%, this is my main complaint. The new direction was for immersion, but your immersion is instantly ripped apart every 2 minutes with a jarring flying camera Peter Jackson would be proud of with an accompanying sound effect? I think we'd all agree this is the LEAST immersive change ever made to the show. and it does it for every single cut scene too, so there is no continuity of feeling like you are down on the field playing baseball. I've actually stopped playing fielding for every batter as it just means too many more whooshes for me to handle. sorry to beat a dead horse, but reading the above post rang too true to me...

Yea, that whooshing is driving me bananas! I have to try you're method, not fielding just to not hear that too often. RTTS is all I play mostly in the Show games and this change really disappointed me. This change really surprised me. Oh well, things never stays the same I guess.

The hilarious part is the absolute arrogance of people here telling others they should "just suck it up" or "this is more real and sim so it's better". Telling people how THEY should enjoy the game is just unbelievable.

They have taken the option of how you want to experience the game away. That is a problem. Even if you prefer the way it is set up now, as a gamer how can you not be turned off by the removal of an option.

This! I really don't get the arrogance of some people. It's almost as though some are happy that we don't have a choice, just because they happen to like the change. Taking away choices, especially for something that people have had for years, is never a good thing.

While I admit that I sometimes liked the commentary, I can easily get used to not having it anymore. It's not that big of a deal to me, and they did succeed in making RTTS mode different from the others.

What I think is really funny about all this though is that they did this for "immersions" sake. We then still usually get some audio at the end of a play, which I've never personally heard anytime that I've ever played baseball. If they take some of the commentary away, then take it all away. What's left is super repetitive, and I turned it off completely after just a few games.

Then there's the camera view. In all my years of playing baseball, I've never once had to look past my own head to see where I hit the ball, or watch myself running the bases from behind. While I do like the new view of the "after hit" ball, some of this should have been presented first person so that our players head and back do not get in the way of our view. When we run the bases we should see nothing but field in front of us, our adoring crowd, and our coach; certainly not the back of our player. That to me kills whatever immersion that they were trying to attain with removing half of the commentary....

I do like some of the new audio additions, and I'd like to see more of that to make up for the loss of commentary. I've gotten into the DD mode this year, and some of the sounds in that are amazing!
