Now he's a 73 ovl after a great year. I think an 80 would be fine even but 17 points after a great year is kind of crazy.

Like I've said before I know the game doesn't see it as David Ortiz. Just a 37 year old player, but it should take that player's stats into account.
True. Maybe its just me, but is this happening right after the FIRST spring training? if so it diddnt happen to me. Arod, jeter, rivera, ortiz and all the others have the same rating as before. I am just in the first few weeks of the season however

      Re: Franchise Player Ratings Decline

Hey guys, just wanted to throw my 2 cents in. did a franchise with the yanks, with someones top 150 prospect rosters, and i am seeing the same stuff, Verlander lead the league with 98 strike outs at the break and finished with 140. And the same thing with regression, Jeter finished as a 70, Kuroda a 75, and mo an 79, and I looked at stats, cause i wholly agree, jeter isnt the best defensive player ever, he hit .240 w 10 hr and 38 rbi, m0 45 sv 1-5, with a 4.48 ERA, and kuroda, 6-11 4.52 ERA. saw the same thing with dickey and halladay, and basically everything you guys are seeing. But on the bright side, the new budget system works incredible, i actually had money to sign more than one player at the offseason, and i thought the FA classes looked alot better too, even though everyone was 31+, but the scouting is great (too easy imo, back to back drafts with 7 A's but im not complaining yet...) and I love the top 50 prospect badge, yanks currently have 7 (last time that happened!?!?!) so if they could find a balance between all this franchise would be perfect, im going to try some sims with a basement team and a fantasy draft to see how stuff works out.

(also, tip for anyone doing a fantasy draft, DRAFT TIGERS PLAYERS!!!!! fielder, miggy, JV, and fister are just mean in this game.

Is the a reason some people are seeing this happen and some arent?

If you select 'End Spring Training' and not sim any games, they will stay they same. If you sim all the games they will go into a huge decline. So hopefully they can fix it where in ST it doesn't happen, It still will in season and they will drop even more. So, You cant have spring training battles if you don't want your vets declining so early in the year.

Is it possible that it's a first season bug, that maybe these changes were supposed to happen in the offseason instead?

I think most of us would be fine with that.

              Re: Franchise Player Ratings Decline

I definitely don't agree with the rapid decrease of the ratings in spring training, but other than that the system is great. I don't know how some guys are saying these players aren't productive when most of them only go down to about 75-80 after one year. In my sims Jeter went down to close to 75 each time w/ a 89 contact vs LHP, I think that is pretty good and could still keep him close to a 275 AVG. Also Big Papi's overall decreased by alot but he also has 70 contact vs RHP and about 75 Power vs RHP. This would still equal somewhere in the range of 25 HRs. The systems not perfect but it gets results and overall the biggest problem is the Overall as it effects what the CPU does with guys. If you don't like these results for guys like Jeter/Dickey/Ortiz just changed their ratings to reflect a slower decline or base it off the stats from the past year. ITS YOUR GAME DO WHAT YOU WANT

Why don't you just tie potential with regression? All players have a potential rating. A potential should regress slower than a C potential. Problem solved.

Yeah, that seems like a good, simple fix. A guy like Mariano Rivera, A potential, would decrease maybe a few overall a year. A guy with C potential, maybe more like 7 overall a year, or something like that. I do like that idea.

For everyone complaining about the decline in Spring Training: Why? It is very easy to click "End Spring Training". I love the new system, but I wish that players would not rapidly decline or improve. Everyone keeps talking about Jeter so I will use him as an example. He should decline maybe 4 or 5 points throughout the season, and then decline maybe another 3 or 4 in the offseason.

I am pretty sure Potential does have a lot to do with this system even though a lot of you are saying that it doesn't.

I'm not saying this system is perfect, but it is better than anything we've had before in Franchise mode.

Yeah I've decided that I'm going to play out my spring training in a separate save and then when I'm done I'll go back to the original and then just end the spring. I've played five games this spring and Mo just started going down 1 or 2 in every category so I'm definitely going to do this at least for the first spring.

I can't imagine potential has anything to do with it. If Halladay were a B or C he would be out of the league in one season.

I've been saying this for like two years, but no one seemed to think it was a good idea for some reason. Help, I thought that's how it worked in the past because of the slow regression for some guys.

Plus, it doesn't make sense for guys already passed their primes to have an A or B potential so I figured that had to be why.

What's the point of having a spring training if you're just forced to skip it every year? That's why people are complaining. Just because there's a workaround for something, doesn't mean there's no reason to complain or wonder if it's an issue.
