I could be wrong, but I think when Russell initially said it was working as intended, he thought people were simply commenting on the amount of regression. Even after the patch regression can be rather drastic at times, and I would guess he was anticipating a reaction of some sort (even if it was working perfectly as intended).

Re: Franchise Player Ratings Decline
That's what Russell commented some time ago to one of my posts in this thread. He obviously had no real idea what he was talking about..So I created a new bug report just concerning the spring training decline.

Re: Franchise Player Ratings Decline
Yeah, I'm sure one of the developers had no idea what he was talking about. I'm guessing he took a quick look at it and assumed it was just another extreme overreaction ('cause there's no shortage of those around here). Once they really saw what was going on they took care of it in a patch that was released very quickly.
Edit: Haha, or that

If the regression was cut by half or a third then it would be perfect IMO.Supporting Leeds United, Colorado Rockies, Detroit Lions and the Colorado Avalanche!

Re: Franchise Player Ratings Decline
I think this is an awesome idea. We have our history to track patterns and trends. As the numbers play out in the seasons will decide their progression / Regression track.Didn't Berkman also hit .185 or something like that the year before?
Seriously though I agree with you. The decline is too sharp at the moment but we'll have to see what we get after the patch
At least now it's feasible to trade veterans for prospects when they hit their 30s. Before it didn't really matter how old they were.
I think for next years game there needs to be a 'development curve' option like in Pro Evolution Soccer. Options like 'Early Peak' (can't think of an example), 'Early/lasting' (Derek Jeter), 'Normal' (Mark DeRosa) 'Normal/Lasting' (Omar Vizquel) 'Late Peak' (R.A. Dickey) and 'late/lasting' (Mariano Rivera, Tim Wakefield)
In PES there were also some players who reached a peak at 20 or so, then regressed a bit in their early 20s and then reached a second peak in their late 20s. Maybe these types of progression options would give us the chance to tell the computer that guys like Dickey, Wakefield and Konerko shouldn't regress as quickly as other players for instance.
The only problem I see with this is nobody can truly predict a player's future. That's all part of the fun though I suppose!I play MLB exclusively with my cousin. Usually looking for info on Franchises. We played minor league baseball as 9-10 YOs on the Zephyrs.Comment

Re: Franchise Player Ratings Decline
Ok....so I got the OSFM rosters and they're awesome.....BUT, why is the progression so slow? It's not just the OSFM guys...it's everyone!Comment

Re: Franchise Player Ratings Decline
It would be great if the regression would be spread over the whole year including Postseason, Offseason and Spring training and not only be happening during the regular season, then the first year decline of highly rated old players wouldn't feel as drastic either. For example Jeter would have an 82 OVR instead of a 74 at the beginning of the Postseason and then lose another 8 points until the beginning of ST.Spending time with Jesus!
