Re: first pitch meatballs....bug?
I'm seeing this as well in RTTS, playing on HOF and yes, I've turned down strike frequency by three ticks and adjusted upwards one of the pitcher consistency I believe it is, whichever one impacts them throwing where they are trying to throw. Still seeing fastballs right down broadway in most at bats, while the rest of the count things seem more normalComment

Re: first pitch meatballs....bug?
It's the one under that, I forget what it's called. It goes...
CPU Pitcher Control
CPU Pitcher Consistency
CPU ?????? <---this one for early count control
I'm on Legend at the moment, and have all three of these at zero. Drew a ton of walks my last game, rarely saw a meatball on the first pitch. Tells me a balance point can be had.
Could be the Legend difficulty though.Comment

Re: first pitch meatballs....bug?
If there is indeed an issue with first pitch meatballs, I encourage all of you to either take some screen shots and/or write down your data and post it here.
SCEA very likely won't adjust something without tangible evidence, unless they notice something on their own internally.Comment

Re: first pitch meatballs....bug?
I think even writing it down in a notebook and posting it here would be enough. That, or capturing screens after every first pitch (this is the pain in the butt one).Comment

Re: first pitch meatballs....bug?
Just tried zeroing out strike frequency, pitch control and consistency to see if the would help seems to have maybe helped a bit, still seeing a first pitch meatball about 60-70 percent of the time even with sliders at 0. Looks like this is an issue that wont be able to be fixed with simple slider adjustments. Im hitting over .600 through 25 games in HOF mode. This pretty much makes RTTS unplayable.Comment

Re: first pitch meatballs....bug?
Ok guys I was having the same problem, was playing on all-star and last year all-star kicked my butt but this year I was hitting in the high .400's(still in AA). So I tried moving the sliders and I did I put CPU pitch control, strike frequency, and consistency all to 0, it wasn't much of a difference. So I put it on Hall of Fame and put Strike Frequency a notch above zero, Control and Consistency two notches above 0. No pitcher(still double A) threw it down the middle on the first throw.
I played 2 games and had 9 at bats went 2-9 and the first pitch for 6 of the bats were strikes, two on the low outside corner, 1 on the the middle a little in the box, 2 on the middle outside, and 1 on the corner inside low. Out of the 3 balls two were up, one ball was a easy lay of another the Ump called in favor of me, and the last ball was outside close had to check swing. So far so good after two games of play. I also would of had my first walk if I took the pitch so that's a good sign.
Sorry for the long read.
edit: also i've seen different varies hits, seen a nice foul line, line drive that I had not seen before. Game feels way better when I up the difficulty.Last edited by Quentin2011; 03-06-2013, 03:24 PM.Comment

Re: first pitch meatballs....bug?
Just a note, in years past, lowering the Control too much resulted in more mistake pitches (i.e. meatballs), so it might be counterintuitive.
I would start with Strike Frequency and Consistency first. Loosens up the pitching a bit without feeling too "forced" on the attributes.Comment

Re: first pitch meatballs....bug?
I don't have the game yet but i've been watching lots of vids and haven't seen this. You guys are stating it happens every time check out this video:
Not my video but this guy is batting as the Pirates vs Jon Niese. 8 out of 10 first pitches in the at-bat or close to that are balls. Curve balls no where close to the middle of the plate. Is the problem ONLY in RTTS? Does it happen against curve ball pitchers as well as fast ball pitchers?
It's important to isolate this issue so the devs have a better chance at fixing it.
If it's only RTTS perhaps its because your created player has no hot zones/tendencies for the pitching to throw to so he defaults to middle of the plate. Thats just a theory though, does it happen even after you get promoted to the MLB?Comment

Re: first pitch meatballs....bug?
I feel like a lot of guys aren't understanding what this issue is painted to be.
It's not the 1st pitch of every at-bat. It's the first pitch... period. THE first pitch a given pitcher ever throws, in a particular game. If you use 3 pitchers, there's only 3 "first pitches."Comment

To Update another game i had- every first pitch of the inning was a #1 pitch down the middle. To reiterate, the first pitch of the inning is almost always the #1 pitch down the middle. This is the second game i tracked and only once was it not a #1 pitch. This is the only time i see this issue. Only the first pitch of an inning. This is on all-star, Exhibition games.
It would well be the first overall of a pitcher in addition. I have only seen 5 relievers in those two games. Three of them started fresh at the start of the inning.Last edited by dkrause1971; 03-06-2013, 03:44 PM.Gamertag and PSN Name: RomanCaesarComment

At CD, there was a discussion about first pitches and how hittable they were or were not. I think they were discussing the first pitches of all at-bats, but I cannot be certain.
Basically, my point is that SCEA does test these sort of things.
Bobhead, are you seeing anything in particular relating to this issue during your CPU vs. CPU testing? Do you know offhand how first pitch strikes in general are so far?Comment
