They happen in real life too, i just chalk them up to a GM having had too much scotch one night.

I got through about 7 teams, and then I thought to myself, "You know... I don't really even give a ****"

So I backed out, started a new franchise where I just control one team, the Mets. Gave Johan Santana his injury and moved on with my life. Ready to play the opening day game. Who knows what the CPU did with its teams but whatever.
Thats it Bobhead, thats EXACTLY it lol.

Up until this year i would do the same, spend hours manually injuring people trying to get the starting situation to replicate reality then it hit me like a brick - why? Within weeks of in-game time the rosters are going to be nothing like matching reality, so why am i bothering?

I started my chise earlier (set it up, havent played the opener yet), and the first thing i saw was the Yanks put their injured quartet of Jeter, Cano, Grandy and A-Rod back in their lineup and it didnt bother me one bit, its what their virtual Cashman should have done, and he did, i want to have to beat the best and not sit all season seeing major stars on the DL "just because they are in real life" - finally realised it aint worth the hassle!

Yep - without doubt, so deep, you have to do what ive bolded to really appreciate it.

I got half way through the 25 man rosters and said screw the CPU will figure it out.

Now I'm just gonna do pitch edits for each team before I play a series against them since I'm the only one seeing these pitches.

But I'm going in full speed now hopefully getting 3 seasons in (bout how long it'll take before the mets get good) and using slightly easier sliders so I can get more games in rather than being drained after one game

Baseball is back and osfm is here I'm ready to go
Brilliant, same situation as Bobhead, glad you have seen the light too

So he could go either way (or you could just change him to a SP as I did heh). As for Ruiz I completely overlooked that one, but I'm not that concerned. I can't keep playing the waiting game or I won't get anywhere like last year haha..

I just want to say that this is an excellent thread idea.

I hope that it will provide some of those on the cusp of 'slider-itis', or those that genuinely feel guilty about waiting to start every year (previous to this one), some motivation to just get out there and play.

I had my breakthrough halfway through 2011, so believe me when I say I'm speaking from experience here.

Basically, the last few years, ive generally messed around too much when waiting to start my franchise, i would always say to myself things like:

          - your sliders arent tested enough
          - wait for the OSFM OD Set
          - then, may as well for re-rates/pitch edits etc
          - there may be another patch, wait for that

...and on and on it went, i was giving myself any excuse not to just go and actually play the game, due to this i was always struggling to get my franchise in (i play all 162), and indeed, get at least two full seasons in, as is my wish.
Well, this year its different, ive finally wised up.

My sliders? Yeah, they may require the odd tweak in future but i doubt it and they play great as it is.

Rosters? This release of OSFM will do just fine, i can make any corrections i want myself, why wait for another set?

Patch? Already had the big one, it fixed everything i really wanted to, so what if there is another mini one, it will work on existing games anyway.

So, basically, what AM i worrying about? Why didnt i just start and play in years gone by?

          NO MORE i tell you!

So...my message to others in a similar boat thinking about waiting for this, that and the other that they "must have", before starting their franchises...learn from my painful lessons and get started, enjoy the game and go and play.

Im sure im not the only one whos come to see the light where this game and waiting is concerned.

My franchise starts today, and will NOT be restarting, because ive also learned if you keep restarting you simply never finish what you started.

If you are a little OCD and absolutely HAVE to wait for all the edits and re-rates that OSFM will get in the months to come, fair play to you, each to his own and all that, but me, well, i used to be like that, but like i say, lesson learned

          Lets play ball!

I have started my chise, one team control, left the CPU to do as it wants with its rosters, looked through the transactions after skipping Spring Training and honestly, there were very few changes to what the real life MLB lineups looked like to be fair, nothing headscratching at all as far i could see, and even if there was, its your own fantasy MLB world now, you are not trying mimic real life, its not really possible anyway.

You are doing what i did, looking for excuses...just get going
I do so much trading to build my team that the lineups and rotations for all the other teams will not be the same anyway. I'm not sure what the "OD set" is, but unless it is going to come out in the next couple of days, I will probably go along with my franchise.

yeah i understand about McCullers...if the roster guys dont feel the need to edit him, i'll live....im sure the omission of Ruiz was an honest oversight.....im confident he'll make it in the next set

Ha. Was really considering doing 30 team control and started to but opted to just go the route ive always taken and that was 1 team control. I just felt that with 30 team control, I would spend more time messing around with other team's rosters than just playing the game since I would know I can.

I do have a question though...when you injured Santana, are you able to change injuries back to "on" and set it to manual whenever you want throughout your franchise? I just want to set the injuries for the Yankees that are on the DL at the start of the season and then set injuries back to on and not have to worry about manually injuring my players. Hope that makes sense

Yes, you can go back and forth as many times as you would like in your franchise from manual to off to on!

                          Re: Lessons learned...go and play!

You know, even in Santana's case...he got injured in Spring Training. If I actually play through the Spring (or let it sim) I'd probably just leave him healthy and let the chips fall where they may as far as injuries go - as has been said, the game turns into a fantasy MLB world almost from the moment you start the franchise anyway. But you can choose to play it however you like, that's what makes it so great!

I was never really hands-on with the 30-team control so the concept of trying to directly replicate the real MLB was never an issue with me. Slider-itis is and always has been my problem, although this game lessens it because it plays very true to the real game at default (not as good as it could with small tweaks, though).

I have waited for pitch edits for the past couple of years, but Parnell has his curveball, Niese with cutter, etc. I played two Spring Training games and my roster is going to be the guys I want to take North. I am starting with no one hurt, and just letting it be my own little fantasy world. As much as I want to have Wheeler and d'Arnaud in Queens, if they don't perform, they don't play.

I hear you PB! This has been my approach all along as well... Like I said in another thread, we (sports gamers) are such OCD/perfectionist that we often let small things keep us from enjoying games. Kind of like letting a water spot ruin the enjoyment of owning a Ferrari, lol. Expecting perfection is the biggest set-up ever, especially when you don't realize it can't be achieved.

I've always believed that franchises should be considered an alternate reality, type of experience, that has some semblance of the real thing but enough to make it unique. After all, if you try to make it so real-life like you would get the exact same results right? In that case you may as well just watch your favorite team on TV, or in a CPU vs. CPU game lol.
