Man I am absolutely guilty of this! I put off playing the game because I'm waiting for things so my franchise can be "perfect" when I start it and that's just not possible. It's like I basically waisted my money buying the game since I'm not playing it because I keep coming up with excuses for things to wait for.

That all stops today! I'm going to pick a team and start a fantasy draft and go from there! Screw trying to mimic real life. What's the point of that really? If that's what its all about then go watch real baseball.

    Great thread...

      Whattup Psycho,

Doubt you remember it, but back in '07 I made the initial *Perfect* slider set for MLB2K, which you then did an excellent job of refining and improving. Though real life has kept me from baseball video gaming for the last 5 years, I've been lurking on OS here and there & see that you continued with the *Perfect* set over the years to great response.

After 5 years off, I finally got a chance to pick up a Vita and a copy of the Show to try to get back to one of my original hobbies (baseball video games). I remember back in the day when we'd spend weeks perfecting the slider set & never getting around to playing a franchise. This year I decided I'd tweak the sliders for a couple weeks & then start a franchise once the major patch dropped. And this thread only encourages me to stick to that plan!

      Cheers bud

I have also taken this approach this year and cannot BELIEVE I didn't do this sooner. One series in already and I'm loving it. Franchise is soooo deep this year, I get lost in between games.

          Re: Lessons learned...go and play!

It is funny that we are all victims of trying to make things be perfect before we start. However once we start it is completely different and I don't think we realize that. I mean I (and many others) waited for the full minors set to come out which makes sense in my opinion. If you want to play a franchise you want the young prospects that your team has.

However, once you make it through that first season your team (and every other) has a new set of young guns. Then if you make it through another here comes another set (and in my experience the computer generates at least some vastly higher rated prospects). This doesn't even touch on the new injuries that obviously occur and the retirements.

In the end waiting a little while is worth it. However nothing will be perfect and you need to make what you have perfect.

          God we have problems haha..

My problem is by the time I reach the All-Star Break in my modern day Franchise.....all these amazing classic rosters are out....and that is where is gravitate to.

Then I go off and play a season replay....and I don't get back to my modern day chise till after October....oh the decisions....good problem to have though.

This year I will play through my modern day chose before I start a classic season or chise. I am determined!

Sliders are set. That for me is a pretty easy thing with how good this game is out of the box. It is all the rosters I love and want to play....LOL.

Basically, the last few years, ive generally messed around too much when waiting to start my franchise, i would always say to myself things like:

              - your sliders arent tested enough
              - wait for the OSFM OD Set
              - then, may as well for re-rates/pitch edits etc
              - there may be another patch, wait for that

...and on and on it went, i was giving myself any excuse not to just go and actually play the game, due to this i was always struggling to get my franchise in (i play all 162), and indeed, get at least two full seasons in, as is my wish.

Well, this year its different, ive finally wised up.

My sliders? Yeah, they may require the odd tweak in future but i doubt it and they play great as it is.

Rosters? This release of OSFM will do just fine, i can make any corrections i want myself, why wait for another set?

Patch? Already had the big one, it fixed everything i really wanted to, so what if there is another mini one, it will work on existing games anyway.

So, basically, what AM i worrying about? Why didnt i just start and play in years gone by?

              NO MORE i tell you!

So...my message to others in a similar boat thinking about waiting for this, that and the other that they "must have", before starting their franchises...learn from my painful lessons and get started, enjoy the game and go and play.

Im sure im not the only one whos come to see the light where this game and waiting is concerned.

My franchise starts today, and will NOT be restarting, because ive also learned if you keep restarting you simply never finish what you started.

If you are a little OCD and absolutely HAVE to wait for all the edits and re-rates that OSFM will get in the months to come, fair play to you, each to his own and all that, but me, well, i used to be like that, but like i say, lesson learned

              Lets play ball!
I've been "that guy" as well. I would start a franchise but here comes a roster with edits I thought I had to have forgetting I was having a blast with what I already had. Constantly restarting franchises and barely finishing one before the next version of The Show came out. Last year I got tired of it and stuck with OSFM OD set and made corrections, trades, etc myself. Finished 3 seasons last year thanks mainly for sticking with one roster set and being able to use my Vita while I was on the road. Even had time to start and finish a season with a classic roster set. Had the most fun. Doing the same from now on too

Started up my yankees franchise today and decided to go with 1 team control as I only want to worry about the Yankees. Before I ended spring training, I manually injured Tex, Arod, Granderson, Pineda, Jeter, and Hughes and set their injury to last as long as when they are probable to come back (according to mlb.com). I set scouting to auto as well.

I simmed a few months into my franchise (didnt save it though) to test things out and everything looks good to me...except for the fact that the Yankees are dead last and 10 games out by July. Hoping when I kick off my franchise and play the games the Yankees have better luck. It will be a struggle in the beginning without the big stars but I'm up for the challenge . Hoping to start playing my franchise tomorrow or this weekend.

Did you just send the players to the minors? How do you set when they return? I'm in the need to know as I refuse 30 team control hah

I just set injuries to manual in my user settings ( found under mode specific within user settings) on the last day of spring training. I then went to the disabled list section within the franchise menu and you hit R1 to choose the players you want to injure. There you can specify the type of injury and how long the injury will last. After doing that, I set injuries back to "on" so new injuries can occur in my franchise.

After setting the injury you can put the players on the 15 or 60 day DL.

Hope that helps. Other than the initial injuries, I'm gonna let my franchise play out as it will.

                          Re: Lessons learned...go and play!

This is a great forum but sometimes it reminds me of the AVS forums. Ever want to feel horrible about a brand new piece of electronics you just purchased, google what you bought in the AVS forum. You'll learn how your new receiver doesn't do classical music right or how your new speakers have problems with certain levels of bass, or how your $4000 TV has problems with motion while watching Jai Alai. Had you not read up on it, your speakers and receiver would sound great and your tv would be your pride and joy. But not to those damn audio/video-philes.

That's what happens here sometimes. This game is great!!! Oh, that Toronto blue is off. And the beachball is everywhere. And stats in 2025 are WAY off (even though I've never played past 3 seasons of franchise in the 8 years I've owned The Show).

Take the OP's advice and just play it. And if you lose because you slowed up while rounding third....that's not a bug, it's a design decision...

I feel like I spend 60 bucks on a game every year to edit it more than play it...
I mean most of us wait a month just for the OSFM rosters to come out then a few more weeks for Version 2 then longer for Versions 3 & 4... I mean when do we actually get into our franchises and just play the game...

I agree with what your saying and Im gonna try and commit to playing the game more... I said I was gonna ditch guess pitch this year and I have! so I'll try and continue the commitment trend I have going on...

To be honest Ive been contemplating using the workaround to get some of the Spring Training progression/regression in my franchise but its so much work to delete the patch and reinstall then figure out everything in my franchise with injuries and 30 team control and if somethings wrong, I'll have to re-do it...
I'm done with this, Ive already waited for the OSFM rosters and then did some edits (btw I didnt have to edit much but Im OCD lol... those guys do a fantastic job every year)

My point is, I just want to PLAY more and worry less and that's what I intend on doing... rant over! lol

I only wait for osfm rosters, the first one. I do some slider edits but not much because I realize that its a game and not going to be perfect. Same with trades, anything that's out there.....oh well.

                                Great thread PB.

I too suffer horribly from this. My problem is more picking a team to use, I am honestly obsessed with it.

I started with KC and was loving it but then the OCD ness started kicking in. "Could I live in KC?" "What is the weather like there?" I even then looked up KC on Wikipedia! Seems a great place by the way!

Anyway I then went through my normal stadium and uniform issues and decided I can't go Kc because in their dugout they have a graphic of the powder blue cap they don't wear anymore. Yes that's right.

I have since started an Orioles chise and I WILL stick with it. Great Uni's, great stadium, good but not great team, and yes there dugouts seem to be authentic.
Now if only the grass pattern was slightly different......
