The no-commentary RTTS is my disappointment. I have barely touched it this year and was quite let down.

Otherwise, this year's game is the best yet.

I actually agree with the OP, I think this year's iteration is a HUGE disappointment, but for entirely different reasons, all completely related to gameplay.

this game needs more player control....the more you control the funner it is..
        when fielding.....you don't do much...
when base running....you don't do much...
when pitching....cpu puts the ball where it wants....after release....
if you don't understand....play Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2013..

I just feel the AI controls to much of the game...SCEA haven't made any strides in this direction..

I have been a loyal fan since The Show's inception, but I definitely regret my purchase this year. I will admit the gameplay is unsurpassed. However the broken progression system and hyper-inflated stats in later seasons make this game unplayable for me. Here's to hoping the ps4 version has some serious improvements.

I have to agree with the OP. His complaints are so close to mine its as if I created the topic which I did not want to do because this game does have its hardcore supporters here. I am still playing a bit but com e next monday when NCAA drops the show 13 is gone. Last year I was playing it into November.

The game is a great game. Just far from perfect.

I've had a really hard time getting into the game this year for some reason. But that's really my fault and not the game's. When I have played, I've loved it.

So I'm kinda disappointed in the context of this year's game, but I don't even want to use that word. Yes this game might have come up a bit short, but if you look at the franchise as a whole, you have a new draft/scout system, new interfaces, a new commentator, new ball physics, and I don't even feel like listing all the other 200 things.

They made a lot of great advancements. A few things weren't executed well, but they are clearly headed in a great direction, and I'm pretty confident that 2014 will address issues and bring a far more polished game, along with a bunch of new stuff, of course.

Sometimes people, definitely including myself, confuse "I'm disappointed" with "I wish this game were perfect."

"Disappointment" is an adjective I'd prefer to save for a few other sports video games, all of which I refuse to buy, rent, or play, because of how consistently underwhelming they have been.

So while I always wish a product were better, when I take a big step back, I can't really say I'm disappointed with The Show. Not at all.
Agreed. As you know, I've had my issues with the new timing window. I thought 12 was perfect in that regard but I've finally adapted to 13 and am really enjoying the game.

The commentary is a sore spot; I've heard more incorrect lines this year than ever before.

I haven't had a chance to really dive into Franchise Mode yet but looking forward to all the additions/changes.

I think some of us are also experiencing fatigue from playing MLB 10-12 so much. I know I am so I've made an effort to play other games more; those mini-breaks help keep 13 fresh.

Re: Was this years game a disappointment for anyone else?

I'm disappointed by this year's The Show in a sense that the game still isn't as realistic as the arcade baseball games that were available decades ago.

I mean, you see how vibrant the grass color is in the picture?? Don't know why The Show never gets this right and the grass in the game has always looked washed out. The Polo Grounds in the old arcade looked so much better than the one in The Show.

Pressure sensitive buttons??? Do you guys honestly think that plastic thing of gimmickry beats the metal handle?? You literally have to force that thing.... that's what "pressure" really means.

Stats are true to sabremetrics in The Show???? We used to have SCIENTIFIC baseball back in the days!

Look, if The Show on PS4 doesn't look half as good as the arcade from decades ago... I'll pass on PS4.

I will put it this way. Out of every year that I have purchased The Show, this one is my least favorite. To me, last year was as close to perfect as it has ever been. Feel like they took 12 steps backward with this years game.

Re: Was this years game a disappointment for anyone else?

I am not getting some of the sentiment. But...hey everyone has their own perception and opinion about the game.

For me hitting has never been more realistic. The new ball physics are nothing short of amazing. And that floaty feel that some may be not feeling is exactly what I love when I hit bloopers, and tailing line drives, drives not hit on the sweet spot that float more. The sheer variety of ball trajectories is amazing and I am still seeing new stuff all the time. Also this year I can really pull the ball better than ever. My hit variety is superb.

On 12 (which is still also an amazing game) every hit felt the same. Hard. The ball was a rocket more often than not with 12. This year they really got it right IMO.
Yes there are some quirks. The base runner slow down around third that occurs sometimes (with great highly rated base runners when I pre-load it right they do not slow down).

I agree with DJ about commentary. I have played well over 100 games now and that is a weak spot this year with missed lines. I think adding Lyons may have had something to do with the bugginess of commentary this year. But it is hardly a big annoyance at all for me.

The game is not perfect. But IMO the best the series has ever seen. And in franchise mode I can't stress enough how much better scouting and training is. It is night and day from past iterations.

For all the little annoyances and occasional hiccups this game to me is the best in the series. I seriously can't stop playing it.

I think everyone can agree that the ball physics are 3 or 4 times better this year than last year... it's just the total overhaul of hitting in general that bothers me. I am a timing hitter so it may not effect zone hitters, but timing hitting seems fairly flawed this year. They should have just kept the exact same game and added the little details, accessories, and ball physics. They didn't need this much change to an already great game.

I am stilling playing '13 a ton, but it is a little bit of a disappointment considering how easy it would've been to just improve '12 instead of completely overhaul the game. They totally changed RTTS which was not necessary at all.

I think they should have implemented these changes when the game came out on the PS4... then we would actually be able to have more options on these changes.

realized that after you pointed me at it, that is very very bad. i mean seriously, all those years when i wasnt playing the show (never had a ps3 or vita) i was thing of it as a game that gets things like that right which other games dont sometimes. until now i realised that its probably not as good as people make it sound sometimes but this is the icing on the cake, in a negative sense.

I do a fantasy draft then exit to get the computer generated faces, some people have said doing a fantasy draft makes injuries glitch and not work. I have yet to test this out completely, but I've done enough test to conclude something definitely isn't right.
I have no issues with injuries can pretty much guarantee you did not set up 30 team control right and actually have CPU roster control set to on, thus negating injuries
