Just to clarify, the "floatiness" term everyone uses refers to the ball after contact is made.

I'm genuinely curious as to what those are. Would mind posting them?

I wouldn't say this year is a disappointment but it was a respectable release. They made some minor changes and tweaks here and there, some more impact than others, but overall it's still a great game. There are definitely some areas that need improvement and I'm still waiting for features that I'm sure are on 55's list.

        What does it mean?

What would be a description of 'floaty'?

I wouldn't know if I see it or not because I don't know what it means.

That is what I figured. And I love it. In fact it had that same feeling on 11 more so than 12 and I noticed it right away. I had traded some PM's with DJ about that a year ago when 12 came out and we talked about how fast and hard it seemed every hit was in 12 where in 11 it floated a little more and had better variety, had more gap doubles and down the line in the corner doubles and triples (things that were much harder to come by on 12)....and for 13 IMO they nailed it with a perfect balance of hard hit liners, bloops, miss hits, cheap hits, corner triples and doubles, gappers.

The variety is fantastic this year. So give me a floaty!!

Let me preface this by saying that I'm a franchise junkie and all of my issues mainly pertain to that mode. As far as actual gameplay goes, I don't have any real issues in that regard. It's all basically "under the hood" type stuff.

1- Adding a single A system to each team. The "no memory" excuse doesn't fly with me on this one since there were games on PS2 that had single A teams. By adding single A teams, roster makers won't have to pick and choose which prospects and minor league players to keep and/or get rid of when they reach the 90 player max.

2- Fix the archaic stat tracking in franchise mode. If I'm in the year 2015 in my franchise and want to see how many doubles Evan Longoria had in 2013 or what Matt Moore's WHIP was in 2014, I should be able to do so with a simple click of a button, period. Again, the "no memory" excuse is a cop out. There was a whole thread about this one already and besides the usual suspects, everyone pretty much agreed with me.

3- Fix sim stats. There were several threads about this one already so I'll keep it brief. The league leader in strikeouts in the year 2013 shouldn't have 160 of them.

4- Make player editing/creating more customizable. I want us to be able to edit hot/cold zones, player contracts, etc. There have been plenty of baseball games before that allowed us to do all of this so there is no good reason not to let us now.

5- Overhaul player progression/regression. Too many guys' ratings are nosediving in their early twenties.

Those are my five issues with the game. If they fixed all of those then the game would be as good to me as the usual suspects already make it out to be. I have little to no issues with the actual gameplay, but some of this other stuff just turns me off from sticking with a franchise and that is the only mode that I really enjoy playing. They probably won't address more than one of these in any given year, but a guy can dream, can't he?

Best way I can describe it this. Did you ever play Contra on the SNES? Too many pixels on the screen led to immense slowdown. Not a perfect example but maybe you get the idea.

Don't get me wrong 13 is a great game. The hit variety is fantastic. They got rid of the pickoff bug and no longer do balls bounce off the outfield turf and over the wall for GR doubles.

1 and 2 are because of lack of memory. PS2 games didn't have nearly as much texture and graphics that today's games do, which takes up a lot of memory.

For 4 I think we have one of the best player editors out there. I doubt you'll ever see us able to edit real player contracts because of the MLBPA, but it'd be nice.

3 and 5 are valid places to look for tweaking and improvements.

The ball hangs in the air too long. Every batted ball feels too much like a fly ball and not enough like a line drive. Even when you hit it "squarely," such as a hit down the line, it doesn't really feel like a liner, it takes a weird arc and seems to literally float down.

Basically the ratio of forward movement to upwards movement is off.

The most obvious examples are pop ups and fouls. When was the last time you ever saw a pop up in real life that stayed literally right over the batter's head? Chances are that Sienfield wasn't even in syndication yet

Yet in The Show it happens like 5-10 times a game. The catcher records like half the outs sometimes. Foul balls all especially seem to hang there, where as in real life a good portion of foul balls travel far out of play (or you know... fall... on the ground...).
Remember that in real life, line drives make up 20% of all batted balls.

I strongly disagree with that statement. I've played another baseball game that lets you edit pitch types to just 2, and edit potential as well, aside from attributes and equipment.

Yeah we get it. You don't want a player like Carlos Marmol throwing 3 pitches.

I think it has to do with the guess pitch feature. If a guy only has 1 or 2 pitches it could lead to some unbalanced results. Instead of having a 20%-33% chance, you would have a 50%-100% chance of guessing the pitch right. (Someone else thought of this in another thread.)

Overall the create a player/edit a player in The Show is very very good and some of the rosters that are in the vault are pretty much spot on as far as faces, ratings, and accessories. The only thing you can't have is a guy that only has 1 or 2 pitch types. When the PS4 comes around we will probably have twice as many options for accessories.

I don't think it's a disappointment, but it does have flaws that could be worked out. In 12 my biggest gripe was the scouting and draft system. You could barely tell what type of player you were drafting. This year not only is the scouting better, but the progression for some C or B potential players to become stars or A potential players busting is amazing. I just wish that player progression didn't decline so rapidly around 30 years old. I've had several players in my franchises that are on pace to make the HOF and then go from high 90's OVR to mid 70's within a year or two. Players can still be productive in their 30's. Maybe if they introduced that decline around 34 or 35 years old or made it a less drastic decline, that would perfect the system. Besides that and the limited stat tracking (which I think they'll improve with the PS4's memory) the game is fantastic. I don't think I've played a game for this long since MVP 05.

Marmol isn't the only one, and pitch types is not the only thing. Potential is another. I have not found any roster to my liking, especially those based on projections.

I think it is very important to have potential editing.

Nailed it. These five things have been on my personal wishlist for years. While the game is still worth buying for me, I can totally understand why you're holding off. Franchise is #1 for me and the lack of depth and issues with it kills me. This year was supposed to be the "overhaul" to it. While it was a focus, things on my wishlist, as you put above, were not added. My #1 item though is better stat tracking. No excuses on next gen. They should have a OOTP type franchise mode with all the hardware the PS4 has.

I don't really get this thread. A disappointment, what kind of standards have you set for a video game? This is a very well built baseball game. If you're looking for the stats and something "deeper" then you should probably put down the controller and play whatif... or ootp. Personally this is the best baseball game I've played (still have my ps2 plugged in with MVP in it)
