Re: The Dynamic Difficulty Discussion Thread

I'm going to use this thread to update progress as I use exclusively Dynamic Difficulty with no slider adjustments through the entirety of Spring Training.

I have never played Spring Training in the past, but I want to play the entire thing this year so all my roster decisions are my own and are true to performance.

That means I'll be playing full, regular-speed games, without Quick Counts, and that means I'll have a lot of real game-time logged with DD by the time the real season rolls around, which should yield some good data for discussion.

I won my first game as OAK vs. SF 4-1 and it was very enjoyable. Once I get through a handful of games I'll post more stats and impressions.

Re: The Dynamic Difficulty Discussion Thread

Now with 10 games of DD-directed All-Star under my belt, I'm about ready to call it - All-Star hitting seems just right for me, at least with QC on. I mentioned in a previous post that I'd only seen the peaks at that time - well, I saw the valleys in the last 4 games, including a near-demotion that was only saved by the fact that it was a close game (remember, the difficulty can't change in a 2 run or less game). This is just what I wanted to see - both ends of the spectrum are there for me on all-star.

It is a bit more volatile than I had initially hoped, to where I could end up going up or down to a level I don't want. But...knowing that All-Star is truly the sweet spot means I could put the actual difficulty setting on All-Star, and not have to worry about the game moving it on me. For that reason I'm glad I didn't land on one of the plus levels, and I would strongly recommend that SCEA make those levels normally selectable for '15.

I'm not ready to call pitching just yet. I've also seen both ends of the spectrum there too, but there's just not enough games for me to say it's stabilized yet.

QC off is a whole other beast, and I'm still scuffling at Veteran on both hitting and pitching there.

BTW, I should point out that I'm doing all this difficulty calibration as Exhibition or Show Live games, and therefore H@V's and Trojan's ways of testing will have one big advantage - they'll be able to see how their stats progress. I did this my way because I wanted a good cross-section of teams and pitchers.

This may be a stupid question. But where do you see what setting you are at. I've played a few games and don't see what level I'm on. I thought you are supposed to see the pluses and minuses.

Re: The Dynamic Difficulty Discussion Thread

My way is decent, but it'll only consist of QC analysis.

I figured that since I'll be playing the game using QC anyway, and since it used a slightly different code, it only made sense to to use it during my entire Spring Training.

So you can get demoted, eh? Interesting. I thought I was down by three on the base Veteran for a time and I didn't end up back on Rookie. I must be wrong and I'll have to check my box score later.

I love the idea of being able to choose the +/- levels. I'll have to add that to the Wishlist. But for me, I'll roll with DD all year. Veteran, Hall of Fame, whatever. I'm in it to win it baby!

The beginning of each half inning an OSD pops up on the screen to tell you where you currently stand. Not seeing it? Are you sure you selected Dynamic?

Yeah, the difficulty display and progress (the + and -'s), show up at the start of every half inning, and if you're not seeing it it's not turned on. Pause the game and go to options - gameplay. If it doesn't say Dynamic for hitting and/or pitching, it's not turned on.

I explained how to set this up above - you need to create a profile with Dynamic difficulty set for one or both of hitting or pitching. Then make sure you're actually using that profile before you start a game.

Re: The Dynamic Difficulty Discussion Thread

Along with QC, this is probably the best thing to happen to the series this year. I don't have slideritis, but being able to just play the game and have it figure out my strengths and weaknesses and adjust accordingly, is MUCH more fun than entering different slider sets

                As always SCEA, kudos!

Stupid me. I had the scorebar display off which was why I wasn't seeing it. But I did go ahead and create that custom profile and named it dynamic. Thanks again.

Sliders and DD are independent of one another. You can change them freely without interrupting DD's work. Although depending on what sliders you change you could probably affect your progress through the difficulty levels.

I dove into this last night and it is very well done! My only issue which is totally on me is that I am impatient and do not want to start on the bottom rung of the ladder to make the climb up to Hof+. I would like to be able to pick the + difficulties or able to start at any of the regular difficulties and work from there. Other then that I think DD is great, as it will capture many who are in no mans land as far as difficulty and find a home for them.

This is terrific, but yes the adjustments are funny in the beginning as my Phillies franchise we just put up 12 runs on 22 hits against the Rangers who started Darvish (he had just 2 K's before getting knocked out in the 2nd or 3rd).

I think after that game I am up to Veteran++ or something like that? Still didn't feel too odd as those games happen, hell it was almost a mirror of the real life opener between those two teams.

Looking forward to finishing the series!

Dynamic difficulty option is a joy. It is also a great motive to play most games in Spring Training and have the optimal difficulty established by the start of the Season.

I thoroughly agree, it's been implemented much better than when EA tried it with Madden, at least thus far. I have utilized the sliders to slow baserunner speed and pitch speed.
