Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

I am at the mid-point of Year one in my proper Yankees franchise and quickly approaching the all star break in my 84 KC Royals season replay.

The one thing that really sticks out vs MLBTS 13 vs this years version is Pitching is back and runs are earned far more. 13 was a power boom for me. I hit lot's of HR's and hit for a higher team average on 13 where as thus far on 14 my Yankees are hitting a paltry .254 as a team. My 84 Royals however are hitting a cool .273

Pitching for the Yankees has been solid to very good. Pineda is killing it while Tanaka has been a victim of lousy run support. CC is giving me horse like innings and QS. Kuroda is up and down and Nuno has been really struggling of late after a nice start. Bullpen is solid. Dave Phelps has handled spot starts and long relief. Roberston has been a good closer so far.

Elsbury after a slow stat has really picked it up. Hitting 254 overall but has 20 SB's 7 HR's and is really heating up finally.
Texy is tearing up the AL with 19 HR's and 45 RBI's. So far he is the offensive MVP for me.
    Beltran has been hot and cold. 258 7 HR's 23 RBI's
McCann like IRL is heating up finally. Still hitting .223 but has jacked 11 HR's
Roberts at 2nd has been a bust and firmly on my bench as Solarte has taken over that spot for the most part. I am really struggling at that spot.

Kelly Johnson - hot and cold. need to solidify this position in the off-season or move Solarte to the hot corner if he continues to develop and move up a 2B (from the minors) or find another free agent.

Ichiro - declining rapidly but I hope he can catch fire for me in the second half of the year.

Soriano - A K machine after a hot start. He is someone I can't rely on right now.

Jeter - Solid hitter so far. Hitting .278 and playing decent at SS in his farewell tour. I rest him every 6 games though.

Gardner - my lead off man and leading the team with 24 SB's

We are in First place tied with Toronto and Boston and Baltimore are on our heals. A great race thus far as we approach the All-Star break.

I will try to post up a better statistical update in the near future (been really bad about that but just so freaking busy).

Dang you are moving right along in your chise. Do you use QC's, as well as the OSFM roster?

Im still in ST'ing, but I had to wait for Nola to input seenjeezys pitch edits before I started. Plus Im in the process of rerates mainly minors and once Im dont I will start over and go with 25 man roster and end spring to get into the season.

Plus I wating out in hopes of a patch to fix franchise mode, I never trust patches in existing chises, Im always afraid they will mess up something and I will end up having to start over. I guess Im weird that way, but Id hate for something to go wrong and I end up having to start over. I hate having to start over once I start, so I wait it out just in case.

The only move I made in the season was trading Billy Butler, Aaron Crow and John Lamb for Robert Stephenson.. (Pretty fair I believe)

I then signed kendrys morales out of FA for 14.5 million.. I did this because I wanted to see what would happen if KC would of done this in real life..

It paid off, although kendrys only hit .240 on the season he provided some pop in the lineup and his 2 homer game against Detroit in September started a 7 game win streak that locked up the division..

Shields was under 3 ERA on the year but was 7-15.. Yordano Ventura had his ups and down finishing with an ERA slightly over 4..

The real surprises were Salvador Perez jacking 28 home runs and Danny Duffy with a 14-6 record and leading the team in strikeouts..

Kyle zimmer got a call up in late august and made a spot start for me but wasn't good enough to replace anyone in my rotation so he is a nice bullpen piece to have in the playoffs until he starts next year either in place of Guthrie or Vargas, although each performed awesomely for me.

I took game one against the Rays last night, 5-3 thanks to an 8th inning bases clearing triple by shortstop Jesus (Alcides Escobar).

Even if it's a video game felt pretty cool to get the royals a playoff spot for he first time since 85.

Im not sure why the Reds would have needed Billy Butler, that wasnt too bright of the AI to go for that deal, considering they have Votto and Butler cant play anything other than DH, cause he isnt much for defense.

Curious where are the Reds playing him at? LF, as thats really the only place for him, unless they are playing him at ss, since Cozart sucks majorly offensively, lol.

I dont know why but I tedn to hit well with Cozart in this game, even when I lower his rating down to reflect just how much he sucks IRL.

And I am using QC as well as playing full games. I play an average of 2-3 games a night between both my chise and 84 replay.

Well the Reds already made some questionable decisions earlier in the year.. Votto was traded to Cleveland so they were in need of a first baseman, although butler sucks at defense ha.. Billy ended up hitting .289 with 29 homers and 80 RBIs for cincy so they got good production out of him.

So last night I dropped game 3 of the ALDS against the Rays 10-3, Ventura didn't have his stuff at all and only pitched 3 innings for me. The game was a wash from the beginning.

Game 4 was a different story. I started Vargas in hopes of saving Shields for game 7 if it came to that.. My only offense was an Alex Gordon homerun and Vargy pitched well into the 8th until he let the bases loaded with no outs.. I brought in Tim Collins who amazingly was the best reliever in the AL for me, 12.89 k/9 and a 1.08 ERA. I got out of the inning but not without the Rays scoring 2 putting them up 2-1 in the eighth.

Here comes the bottom of the ninth and I'm down 2-1.. I have been playing MLB The Show since 09 and I only do one franchise each year with the Royals, and I have never advanced in a playoff round.. Ever..

Salvador Perez comes up with 1 out and lines a ball to right center gap, Wil Myers stumbles trying to field the ball and Perez hits a double but makes it to third on the error.. In such perfect storm fashion none other than 14.5 million free agency signing, Kendrys Morales steps into the box.

Jake McGee gets ahead 0-2 in the count and I start fouling balls off.. McGee throws a fastball low and boy does Morales connect on a WALK OFF HOMERUN to give the Kansas City it's first playoff series when in almost 30 years!!!

I sat in my chair and watched one of the coolest celebrations I've yet to see in a video game.. Morales running the bases tossing his helmet, Kauffman is going wild and the team meets him at home.. Just freaking awesome..

I now face the Angels in the ALCS, a team I only beat twice in the season.. Cannot wait to see how this turns out, this team is showing power that I didn't see all season..

Well atleast it makes some sense why they took the trade for Billy Butler then. Dont look like the AI version of the Reds GM is very bright though trading away Votto. I guess he got leary of his drive leg and that big contract, lol.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

The Marlins have continued to struggle offensively and it has caught up to them in early portions of May. The team has been outscored thus far, despite a 18-16 record, so without some good fortune, this team should be under .500.

As it is, the only thing they are doing well offensively is hitting triples - leading baseball in that department with 11 (though no single player has more than 2).

The walks remain a problem as the team remains in the bottom half of the league (18th) and has posted just a .311 OBP. Whether that's the pitching faced so far (a lot of control pitchers) or just more bad offensive luck (mediocre pitchers happening to throw strikes) is up in the air.

Pitching-wise, things have gone downhill also. Andrew Heaney has been solid in his first few starts, but beyond him, no help for Fernandez. Heaney and Fernandez are 6-0 combined. Everyone else in the rotation is 6-11 combined.

The bullpen is hanging in there, though Ramos and Dunn have hit a rough patch. Capps has been dominant so far as has Marmol.

The offense can be summed up as such: When Marcell Ozuna leads your team in OPS among everyday players, you have problems.

The Marlins went just 3-6 in their just-completed home stand, and 4-8 in their last four series. Currently, the team is on a 4-game losing streak.

                    Astros vs. Royals Highlights

The Houston Astros face the Kansas City Royals in game 1 of their 4 game set at Kauffman Stadium. Homer Bailey takes the bump as the good guys try to close in on the Seattle Mariners for the division lead.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

I'm new to this forum so I'd like to say hi everyone. As for me I'm 4-0 in my Washington Nationals franchise (3-0 with NY Mets, and 1-0 against Atlanta Braves). I'm also new to baseball and it's my first franchise in MLB The Show. I won't say much about it because I just started but there's something that's bother me everytime I'm playing the game. I can't play with certain players. For example I hate hitting with Desmond. Everytime I play with him I can't hit the ball. That's crazy...or I should say he drives me crazy! I think I'll trade him one day...But I won't trade much. I like Nationals lineup so let's stay with it. I'll let you know how my franchise is going (I hope you'd like to read). Oh...and greetings form Poland

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

The Marlins are really hating May right now...

That 4-game losing streak turned into a week long losing streak and the Marlins are just 4-10 so far in the month.

The team has fallen under .500 and into 3rd place in the NL East, sitting at 20-21, 4 1/2 games back. Not dead, but the team needs to show some signs of life as well before things become hopeless yet again.

Offenses remains a problem as the team has sunk to 26th in MLB in runs scored, with only the Cubs and Phillies below the Marlins in the NL.

Giancarlo Stanton might be getting into the groove more as he's picked up the power stroke lately. Problem is, the rest of the lineup continues to gradually slide down. Yelich is now down to .208 after starting the year well into the .300s, Hechavarria has show surprising "power" with all of 3 HR already, but is down in the .220s. Garrett Jones returns from his injury, so perhaps that will help.

Some backups/utility guys might be seeing more time at this rate. Greg Dobbs is hitting .321 in 81 AB, Ed Lucas is at .278 in 43 AB, Marisnick is at .273 in 43 AB...these guys might be getting more ABs to see what they can do. It can't get much worse.

On the pitching side, Fernandez is leading the way as expected (5-1, 2.06). Heaney has put four strong starts together (2-0, 2.10), but the rest is a struggle. Eovaldi has had some bad luck (1-5, 4.10), but Alverez (1-2, 6.52) is playing his way back to AAA sooner than later.

Bullpen is still led by Marmol (1-1, 1.98, 25 G, 27.1 IP) and Capps (2-0, 1.52, 25 G, 23.2 IP). Ramos and Dunn have slowed down, which is not helping keep any late leads. Cishek has been seeing use outside of traditional closer roles and doing okay (1-3, 8 Sv, 1.96 ERA).

Prospect LF Kyle Jensen was sent to AAA to make room for Garrett Jones, but Jensen might be back sooner than later. While he was up, he picked up his first career HR.

AAA SP Angel Sanchez might be the one to get first shot at replacing Henderson Alvarez. Sanchez has 8 QS in 8 GS and a 3.35 ERA. Fireballing young RP Arquimedes Caminero is also looking strong for the Zephyrs. He has a 1.91 ERA in 28.1 IP.

For the Suns, "Country Strong" Tyler Kolek is off to a good start. He's posted a 1.21 ERA in 27.1 IP, striking out 30. Command is what the team is waiting on as he's issued 10 walks in that span, but a strong beginning.

20-21 ain't bad for the Marlins, seems like you're learning the team pretty well and creating a bond. I don't care how nerdy that sounds but it does make franchise mode a ton better when doing it..

Glad to hear Stanton is getting the power stroke. I've done a lot of sim/franchise draft dynasties and he's really hit or miss. Some years it's .280 with 40 plus homers and some years it's .230 with 20-30. Every time I play with him though I feel like I'm going to absolutely kill the ball huh.

Game 1 of the ALDS, Royals vs Angels.

When I saw who the Angels number one was in the matchup screen I actually was pretty confident about the series.. Eric Stults is their number one, and they apparently have Granderson now too. But nothing like my pitching staff that ranked 3rd in the league.

I started Shields and thought the game would be pretty low scoring and shields would hold it down.

                            I was way off....

Trout smoked a triple with no outs in the first plating 2 and Pujols and Granderson did some dirty work as well putting LAA up 4-0 out of the gates..

I felt confident about my hitting though, all season I would just go inning by inning not finding any gaps or any long balls, the addition of Kendrys Morales and the playoffs had been a different story though.

Lorenzo Cain drew a walk and stole second while I managed to strike out with both Hosmer and Infante.. Kendrys then steps in to bust a long ball to deep right center cutting the lead in half and giving me some hope.

The Angels tacked on two more in the middle innings but I still kept in Shields till the 7th, despite the 6 runs he was actually still pitching decently and I didn't want to waste the bullpen in game 1.

The innings kept going but I kept tacking on runs, and Danny Valencia was my hottest batter and just a triple away from the cycle. I tied the game up in the top of the ninth 6-6 with a Alex Gordon RBI double and sent it into extras..

Top of the 12th Cain singles and then advances on a wild pitch so with no outs I have a golden opportunity.. With a righty now pitching I pinch hit moustakas for Valencia and he pulls on a fastball and hits a double down the line scoring a run and giving me the lead for the first time in the game..

I tacked on 2 more when Jarrod Dyson hit one to the right gap and Holland closed it out for the win 9-6.

About the third game in a row I've been on the edge of my seat the entire time.. I have been checking sliders and everything after every game to wonder how of the sudden this royals ballclub is hitting and winning, but everything checks out, hall of fame across the board.. I'll keep y'all updated through the playoffs.

If the bats stay hot and the pitching can fend off the Angels strong lineup we may see something that we haven't since 1985.....

Not a better time for your hitters to start raking than the playoffs 😎 Good luck!

I am in season 5 with my Astros Chise and we finally made the playoffs by winning the division with a record of 86-76. I am in the ALDS against the Royals and they have a great pitching staff. I got shut down the entire game in game 1 and lost 3-0. In the 2nd game I was shutdown again until the top of the ninth when I got an rbi double bringing in Carlos Correa to tie the game at 1. I forced extras and couldn't get anything going in the top of the 10th. Then the lead off man of the royals hit a lead off triple and the next batter blooped a single just fair of the left field foul line to win the game. Frustrating that I can't get any hits but I will try to pull a comeback down 2-0.

The Astros host the Orioles at Minute Maid Park in this radio play-by-play broadcast. After an offensive outpour from Baltimore, the Astros needed help from two unlikely heroes.
