Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

I just had my absolute BEST display of pitching in MLB The Show.

It's opening day of my second season in my Mets fantasy draft franchise. We were eliminated in the second round of the playoffs, and we're looking to start off strong and show that last year wasn't a fluke.

Our ace Zack Wheeler takes the mound. He was the NL Cy Young award winner last season, where he had an 18-0 record with a 2.33 ERA. We're in Seattle taking on the Mariners A.J Griffin. Wheeler manages to set down the first seven batters, but walks the eighth. Ok no big deal right? I always get through 7 or so batters without a hit. Wheeler isn't done though. He continues a dominant performance. He has a ridiculous amount of strikeouts by the end of the fourth. The fifth comes and goes, and we're on to the sixth.

At this point i'm wondering if maybe I accidentally messed with the CPU hitting sliders. Wheeler has strikeouts 14 by the end of the sixth. I don't want to check the sliders and jinx my no-no so I role with it. Wheeler continues to mow down batters. He has 19 strikeouts through 8.2 innings. He throws a 2-seamer (which has been responsible for at least 10 of his K's) and the batter lines it hard to Wil Myers! Its a No Hitter!

Zack Wheeler has pitched the Mets 3rd No Hitter ever. (He had a perfect game in simulation last season) I check my sliders after the game and nothing was changed even a notch. My difficulty for pitching is dynamic, and it was on All Star +. Awesome game.

In my cubs franchise, im 10-16, going to be unloading the expected veterans for some prospects throughout the year, not the other way around, as Detroit figured I would be. I was offered Anibal Sanchez and Joba Chamberlain for Javier Baez and Kris Bryant. If I was a contending team, I still dont think I would entertain this offer
      NFL- Green Bay Packers
      MLB- Chicago Cubs
      NBA- Milwaukee Bucks
      NCAA- Wisconsin Badgers

Man, that must have been a tense event! I just pitched a CG shutout 1-hitter and I was pissed when that first hit got logged.

Sad to hear that Griffin went to SEA; I always pitch extremely well with him when I use OAK. I would never let him walk.

When that final line drive was hit my heart dropped. Luckily it was right at someone. It was crazy tense.

I thought that since Wheeler isn't very highly rated, and because he choked and basically cost us the playoffs, that last season was a fluke, but I guess not.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

Julio Teheran was cruising through eight, having allowed only two baserunners to a bb and an error on 91 pitches. Unfortunately, I hadn't scored any runs when his spot came up with the bases loaded and no outs in the top of the ninth at Washington, and I had to pinch hit for him.

I managed to scratch a run out of the situation, and Craig Kimbrel came in to strike out the side in order and complete the combined no no. The rest of the Braves mobbed Kimbrel as if he never struck out the side before.

Random oddity from my season; five games in, and the Upton brothers are a combined 0-31 with one walk and two runs scored.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

Marlins starting 2014 off to a decent start, 12-8, 1 game ahead of the Nats.

Stanton has hardly shown up. Batting around .180 with 5 HR and a handful of RBI. .400-ish SLG - not bad I guess for a .180 AVG.

Fernandez is 4-0 after struggling a bit for the first time in the early season. ERA is 1.32 - gave up 4 R in 6 Innings against the Braves last time out.

The offense is coming and going - team OPS at .710. Strike outs are just way too high right now, and the walks could be better. Doubles and triples aren't too bad, guys are hustling at least and slashing the ball to the gaps.

Most of those 12 wins came on a 7 game win streak, though, so consistency needs to improve. 2-3 in latest stretch started off 3-5. Long ways to go yet and hopefully Stanton will pick things up.

Injuries are hurting some - Reed Johnson out for the year. Koehler out for months. Just lost Jacob Turner for months.

Young starters behind Fernandez are really struggling. Scouting pitchers heavily since we have the 2nd overall pick. Hopefully we'll find another Fernandez or Strasburg, etc.

My goodness hitting with the Marlins is like pulling teeth.

Just got done finally winning a game 2-1 in the 14th inning.

From the 7th to 10th, had at least one man in scoring position. Then it was pop-up city. I swear we were like 2-for-13 or something with RISP - and one hit led to Furcal getting thrown out at the plate to end an inning! Gah!

So how did the winning run score?

Drew a walk. Passed ball. Then a bad throw in to second. So the runner moves up to third. Finally, Marisnick comes up with an RBI single through the drawn-in infield.

I had planned to give Stanton a day off, but called him to pinch hit in the 7th with a man on second. I was yelling "Cowards! You're not the Atlanta Braves, you're the Atlanta Cowards!" as they promptly put him on...and the Marlins don't score.

Guess a win's a win...but thank goodness we have an off day because the bullpen will need it after this. Sheez.

Heard the PA announcer after the game say the Marlins left 17 runners on base. Ugh!

40 games into 2014 with the Orioles and things are going pretty good at 24-16 and 1.5 behind Boston in the division. Picked up Danny Espinosa and Justin Ruggiano in trades at the start of May. Chris Davis is playing out of this world. .364/.469/.848 with 24 hr & 43 rbi. Espinosa is playing pretty great too .325 with 13 and 30. I have to find some pieces to plug into my rotation and bullpen before the deadline. I should be 30-10 at worst if my bullpen would have been performing at least decently.

Sitting at 34-33 on June 15th with my Marlins franchise. I've been playing every game so far. Garrett Jones has just been killing it, .260 with 15 HR and 42 RBI. Stanton's been doing great too but he leads the league in strikeouts....i barely strikeout with any other player though . I've been having a lot of fun, I just wish I could pitch a little better with my bullpen. Cishek, Dunn, and Ramos all have solid ratings but they all suck dick whenever I bring them out there.

I made a couple notable moves too, I traded a C pot pitching prospect to the Brewers before the season for Rickie Weeks (who's been sucking, hitting .185) and then I traded Marcell Ozuna to the Red Sox for Mookie Betts.

MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

Capped off the season with my Royals at 89-73, just 2 games enough to beat out a struggling Detroit team for the AL Central pennant!!

The only move I made in the season was trading Billy Butler, Aaron Crow and John Lamb for Robert Stephenson.. (Pretty fair I believe)

I then signed kendrys morales out of FA for 14.5 million.. I did this because I wanted to see what would happen if KC would of done this in real life..

It paid off, although kendrys only hit .240 on the season he provided some pop in the lineup and his 2 homer game against Detroit in September started a 7 game win streak that locked up the division..

Shields was under 3 ERA on the year but was 7-15.. Yordano Ventura had his ups and down finishing with an ERA slightly over 4..

The real surprises were Salvador Perez jacking 28 home runs and Danny Duffy with a 14-6 record and leading the team in strikeouts..

Kyle zimmer got a call up in late august and made a spot start for me but wasn't good enough to replace anyone in my rotation so he is a nice bullpen piece to have in the playoffs until he starts next year either in place of Guthrie or Vargas, although each performed awesomely for me.

I took game one against the Rays last night, 5-3 thanks to an 8th inning bases clearing triple by shortstop Jesus (Alcides Escobar).

Even if it's a video game felt pretty cool to get the royals a playoff spot for he first time since 85.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

Im 9-12 in spring training with my Reds. After starting out 5-0 I hit a rough patch. Pitching overall has been solid other than a few relievers getting roughed up. My pitching is leading in K's, but we have walked quite a few batters, and are in the bottom 3rd for walks.

Hitting is where I have struggled as the team is batting under .200 this spring. During my 5-0 start I was hitting descent, but then the wheels fell off, and just cant seem to find it again.

I do things a little different than most probably in my chise. Once the OSFM rosters with pitch edits gets out I start Spring Training and play every game, then once I finish spring training I start my chise over with 25 man rosters so lineups and rotations stay intact for Opening day.

By doing that it allows me to do rerates to my personal roster without feeling rushed to get done with rerates, since Im playing spring games. I hvae always done this, but I usually ended up doing more rerates once I was into my chise, but while waiting on a patch to fix franchise mode hopefully I have been able to enjoy playing while spending quite a bit of time editing the roster. I have never gotten this detailed before with rerates as I usually just relied on the OSFM to be accurate on ratings. I have since found out there are a lot of errors with minor league players in the roster, you can see a lot of bias on some of these teams, lol.

With getting so indepth with rerates this year Im really looking forward to getting my chise going, so I sure hope SCEA isnt blowing smoke and they are indeed fixing franchise in a patch, and Im hoping its here soon. Tuesday would be great. I just never trust existing chises to be patched and always wait it out just so Im not ticked off cause a patch screwed up my chise.

Just going by spring games sim stats do look to be better this year than they have ever been. Batting averages and ERA's are looking about right for spring games, as is other stats, so Im happy with that. Once I finish ST'ing Im going to match the stats with the real life stats for this years ST'ing to see how they look. I go thru all teams and change lineups and rotations all the time so everyday guys dont get too many at bats or pitchers dont get too many innings pitched as well. Im very OCD when it comes to stats

Marlins have dropped to second place, now 1 game behind the Nationals.

Offense is still DOA on most games. Getting really, really, really tired of Giancarlo Stanton. I don't know if his low VIS rating is killing him in this game (he has a ridiculous amount of swings and misses while his real self is right around league average) or what.

But whatever it is, I'm sick of him. If he doesn't pick it up by the end of May, to the trade block he goes. The rest of the hitters basically should just stink (except maybe Yelich and Saltalamacchia), but Stanton should be awesome.

Bullpen is doing okay, though it's up and down. All starters behind Fernandez are still a crap shoot.

Uncovered a few really nice pitching prospects, so I'm really looking forward to the draft. I know who I'm going to be targeting with the 2nd overall pick, barring some other discovery.

Took game two from Tampa Bay with the Royals to make us a game away from winning the ALDS.. I started zimmer but he only lasted 4 innings, wade Davis and Louis Coleman picked up the rest of the innings.

I was down 2-0 when We loaded the bases and Hosmer blasted a grand slam to opposite field.. We then poured it on em and won 10-3.

My offense has been stagnant all season I have no clue where this power surge is coming from but I'm not hating it.
