I've yet to start my franchise. Waiting for the osfm to drop first. I'm new to the game, so still trying to figure out the best way to run things. So it's best to take control of 30 teams and oversee all trades right? Is it also best to control the draft too? How ling does the draft take when running for every team?

I definitely want the most realistic franchise available, so any advice you can give to a new player as myself is much appreciated. Thanks.

to answer your first question, it is widely recommended to use 30-team control if you'd like some form of realistic trades

Don't know how the draft works in The Show 14 yet but last year I let the CPU draft for itself (or as close as you can come to it) since I just hit draft the best player available when the CPU was on the clock.

I drafted for every team last year and it took maybe 35-45min at most. I looked at position needs as well as best available. When I let the cpu draft I kept seeing Catchers drafted...teams would draft 3-5 catchers in a single draft (SCEA had an overload of them), drafting best available I guess.

For trades...just look at division standings on July 1st and decide what teams are selling and what teams are in playoff push mode. Make your own realistic trades. July is the onlt month and time I ever make trades. I might make 3-5 trades, 6 at most. That def doesn't take too long over the course of a month. There's a realistic trades thread in here that I'll use to get input from fellow OSers so I make sure I'm making realistic trades. Controlling trades and draft doesn't take that long and is well worth the effort. Its nice knowing who goes where etc. The longest part is offseason free agency...

Re: Community 30 team control guide

This might be a dumb question, but...

Has anyone ever posted a video or two showing how they use 30-team control?

I like the idea (if only to correct flaws in franchise mode logic -- things like teams making nonsense trades or not retaining recent draft picks). But it seems fairly daunting, and also a little confusing. Or at least, it seems daunting and confusing based on reading explanations of how it works.

I feel like I need to actually see how somebody with 30-team control handles things.

How they handle a typical week or month during the season (as far as keeping an eye on the league's trade activity), how they handle the draft (and if they sign CPU team's draft picks for them), and especially how they handle the flurry of activity each offseason.

So, anybody know of any videos out there showing how somebody uses 30-team control?

Great, thanks for all the info. You mentioned free agency.. So you also manually run that for all 30, too? What rules do you apply for this? And lastly, do you manually sign players to contracts? I recall reading someth on here where there's a glitch where rookies only sign 1 year deals or something?? Can't recall for certain, but something along those lines.

Well I've never quite got this far before so idk yet. I'm running a practice franchise to see how I wanna do it. I typically would allow the cou to resign and offer arbitration to their players but because of the bugs I may have to do it by myself.

I most likely will do one team at a time, resigning who I want realistically. As far as free agency I'll probably have a little fun with it. I see a high valued FA, I will decide 5 teams to "bid". Then using random number generator app to decide which team gets the player. Again, knowing exactly who went where creates more a immersive franchise. I don't mind spending a good 12-15 hours at minimum on offseason stuff if it means the next season will be even better than season one.

Besides, what's the big hurry to start another 25 game ST and then another looooong 162 games plus potential playoffs?? Might as well take the time and effort out to make it the best possible. JMO

I also manually create injuries daily on the MLB level only. Three per calendar day using the random number generator app. I let cpu place on DL, and call up guys to replace. On average every team has about three guys on the 15 day DL, and one on the 60 day. Simulated games have too many injuries and played games don't have enough so I go this route.

Again it all boils down to being immersed in my franchise for me. Creating stories when the Blue Jays have five guys on the DL and its only May, while some teams have avoided it or only had day to day injuries.

Do this literally every calendar day. When you see a trade proposal on there you can view it and from there decline or accept the offer.

You may also make realistic trades yourself or trades that occur irl with 30 team control. I plan to make trades starting July 1st based off division standings to make it realistic and more enjoyable for me. That's the best part of 30 team control...you can make it as enjoyable as you feel need to for your experience

Ok so hopefully this is the last time I have to look stupid haha...

I just tried this again. Selected all 30 teams from the beginning, using the right stick I have two options available, beginner and experienced.

I picked the team I wanted to be and left them on experienced, the other 29 were changed to beginner.

After this I left CPU roster moves on so they could do that themselves and just started to sim.

So my question is did I set up 30 team control right. I haven't seen any pending trade offers yet so I feel like I did something wrong even though I left CPU trades on. I'm trying to figure out where I screwed up with the other 29 teams.

Sorry guys - I realize I must seem pretty stupid. I just can't figure this out.

For those of you who use 30-team control specifically to create more realistic trade scenarios: when the CPU proposes a trade you don't like, do you go in and alter the trade so the terms are more equitable, or do you reject the offer wholesale and wait for the CPU to offer up something more realistic?

Also, do you actively go seeking trades on the part of the CPU teams in light of their records at or near the AS break?

And lastly, I seem to recall that something about the re-rating of the OSFM accelerates weird trades by the CPU. Last year, with OSFM, Choo got traded 2-3 times in the same season in year one every time I summed it, but I haven't seen this sort of thing happen with SCEA default rosters. Is that something that has been noted? It's not a knock on OSFM, as I plan on using that set for my "real" franchise, but it's more of a question about how necessary 30-team control is if you use OSFM.

Sim unil early June or something. After the draft, the cpu usually becomes more trady happy and proposes trades left and right

I take a look at the the team that is making the offer to see what they are trying to accomplish. If the team is a clear contender or needs that extra piece and they want to give away some A potential talent in their minors system for a good solid veteran to fill a glaring hole…..I let the trade go through. If it is an obvious wonky trade I reject it.

I never actively look to make offers for any team other than mine. I let my universe evolve as it is meant to evolve. However like I mentioned above….I will tweak a trade for a contending team if it is an obviously one sided deal. I want to make sure the balance of the league does not get compromised. That is about the extent of manipulation on trades I take.
