Re: Full Minors Roster for '09
First off thanks for all your hard work on the rosters. I used them last year and they made an already good game great. That being said, what are you smoking with the above comment? It is only 5 games into the season so his somewhat slow start shouldn't exactly warrant panic and Wright has always been slow out the gates. Just find it odd you would bat a potential MVP in the 6 spot.Comment

What am I smoking? Let's see..
You can buy it in Washington Square Park or Steinway St Park....they call it frustration.
Yes...I'm overstating it...wanna flip Wright and Delgado...Wright and Beltran....Wright Delgado Beltran...
My real point is.....we might be wasting two spots with Murphy 2nd and Castillo 8th.
Castillo can take a ton of pitches(for Reyes to move over) ...not that Murphy can't...but with Castillo in the 8 spot...no reason to nibble...he can't hurt you so they just throw him strikes and he gets a ton of backward K's.
To me....I prefer a #3 hitter more in the mold of Keith Hernandez....good hitter..moves the ball around...doubles power than a guy with power..I like those guys 4-5-6.
You act like 6th in the order is a slap in the face!

You obviously know your baseball, but I gotta disagree with you. I believe the 3 spot in the lineup should be occupied by your most productive hitter and over the course of a 162-gm season that is easily Wright. A weird spring with the WBC and being in and out of Mets camp along with his not-so-great April track record are just a few reasons for his somewhat slow start through 5 games. I have no doubt that come the end of the season he will put up his usual .300+ BA with 30+ hrs and 100+ rbis. As for the Castillo/Murphy debate, I agree that Castillo sees a high number of pitches but I am in the camp that thinks he is done and at this point is a .250 hitter at best. I absolutely love Murphy, the dude just knows how to play the game the right way. I think his outstanding discipline, especially for a guy that is pretty much a rookie, make him an ideal fit for the 2 hole. Despite one very good game I would sadly would rather see Cora playing everyday at 2b over Castillo. I hope I am wrong and Castillo reverts back to the days where he was a very good 2b but I don't see it happening.Comment

I don't disagree with anything you said...not one thing....yes...Wright is fine as a 3 hitter(my comments are more a frustrated Met fan than a subjective baseball guy)...
I did qualify it by saying that if Jerry Manuel is indeed handcuffed(by the F.O.) to play Castillo....they only spot in the lineup where he is not a COMPLETE waste is #2...so that lead me to the radical Murphy #3 idea(I really think he will be a Hernandez type hitter...and that worked well for us!..but you're right..Mex was the best hitter en masse on that squad...so that proves your point!). He doesn't fit well 6(not enough power...you still need that 6 IMO) and 7/8 wastes his good discipline.
If it were me...with no restraint as it stands right now...
Reyes
Murphy
Wright vs. LHP Beltran vs. RHP
Delgado
see above
Church vs. RHP Tatis vs LHP
Schnieder
Cora
Pitcher
...and I'd just ditch Castillo at this point.....sign Grudzelanik or just bring up Argenis Reyes....and cut our losses.

Re: Full Minors Roster for '09
Mil, Hous, St. L, Ari, Col, L.A.(or S.F....depending on how I feel after Easter dinner!)..and S.D.
So added to the last one will be Chicago N, Cinn. Pitt and either S.F. or L.A...
I didn't get as much as I would have liked...but I was also arranging some of the changes....lost a lot of time there.
