Re: Full Minors Roster for '09

In anticipation of making this the most realistic experience possible, I have been thinking of the best settings as far as cpu trades, roster control on etc. to use when I start my season.

In a perfect world I would start off with cpu trades off (maybe turn it on around the deadline to generate some trades like real life), and have CPU roster control on to prevent any crazy FA signings that wouldn't go down in real life and move people up and down to mirror who is currenlty playing in the majors on all the teams or conduct trades between other teams if they should happen in the future. However, from what I understand when CPU roster control is on there are no injuries.

So, I am just wondering what settings everyone else plans on using once Knights rosters are finalized in the best attempt to maintain realism?

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that you can only turn CPU trades on/off before you start your season. I don't think you can change it again mid-season.

Hmmm well I guess thats OK with CPU roster control ON I could still trade amongst all teams. See these are things I need to know since this is my first time playing a franchise with The Show.

turn cpu trades off, and cpu roster control on. as transactions occur throughout the year, youll be able to update your franchise to stay current with real life. thats what im doing.

But do people get hurt on other teams? I probably will do that either way but I really would prefer persons getting injured during a season. I like real life rosters as much as the next guy but I am not so serious as to place guys who are healthy during my season in the minors b/c they got hurt in real life.

in last year's game there was a workaround to have cpu roster control on as well as have injuries on. but i tried that workaround this year and it doesnt work and i havent seen anyone else find a way to get it to work. but im kind of like you in the fact that i want injuries to occur.

Hmm well I guess the alternative would be to keep cpu trades off, but relinquish control of cpu rosters (so injuries can happen). But then you run the risk of Knights rosters being shot with the CPU signing Free Agents. I don't mind if the CPU brings up folks from the minors if someone is struggling in my fantasy season but I do mind if random free agents are signed.

Can anyone give me some feedback as to how much action occurs with the free agency pool during a season by the CPU?

And what about having CPU trades on, but overriding trades that occur if you don't think it should go down. Can the user do this?

i dont believe the CPU signs free agents during the season from what i've read elsewhere..maybe someone can verify that cause i'd hate to say that and be wrong

                    Hmm very encouraging if true.

Do you know anything about how the CPU trades work. Can you manually override a trade that the CPU pulls off with another CPU controlled team or do you have to have CPU trades off to block this from happening?

Sorry for being so anal, I suppose I could sim a few weeks of a season and find all of this stuff out. But with a job and kids, marriage etc and an addiction to Call of Duty 4/5 sometimes this board is the best way to get answers.

I use CPU roster control ON, and try to follow the real MLB season including trades and injuries, etc. I am usually behind enough in the season to pull this off.
Last year, I would turn the injuries on only in my game, and then turn them back on. I liked the element that I could get hurt, and it made me play more realistically (for example, if I was winning 15-1, I would take my starters out not to risk injury, even if I wanted to pad stats).
But, that work-around doesn't work this year. If you use CPU roster control ON, you can't have in-game or sim injuries anymore since you can't toggle it on/off during the season (that I know of).
So, if you want to control the teams, you have to live with no injuries. What you could do is move real life injured guys down to AA or something.

Check out Bill Maher's New Rules and people's overuse of the word anal. It's hilarious.

Sounds like you may be better off not having CPU roster control on. As it is, the CPU lineups get moved around this year anyway. I don't know the answer about the free agency thing, but I really haven't read people complaining about it in the past so maybe its well done in the game.

I think you're right about that. With CPU roster control off, you are out of luck, unless there is a work around like putting force trades on and then putting the guys back by using your team as the "middle man". I bet you could do that.
Next year I would like to be able to toggle CPU roster control on/off.
Then you could have the CPU do it's thing, but make sure rosters are correct, like bringing A-roid back up when he is ready, etc.

I think Knight said one way to get him back in or anyone is to edit the player that is in the lineup to help them get injured (Cody Ransom for instance) in your Franchise. Then put C. Ransom's attributes back where they were when A-roid comes back up.

No more use of anal for me then.

I am really torn with what to do. After thinking about it I am now sort of leaning towards cpu trades off/cpu roster control on and moving down real life players like you do that get injured. This seems like it would be alot of work however.
