Knight, another Padre transaction...Jae Kuk Ryu is back from the Indians.

    Per Rotoworld

MLB voided the Indians' waiver claim of RHP Jae-Kuk Ryu from the Padres.
Ryu is back on the Padres' 40-man roster for now. That probably means he's dealing with some sort of arm problem that's going to put him on the disabled list to begin the year. The Indians intended to have him pitch at Triple-A Columbus.

Karstans wins by default eh. He wasn't too good during ST but he is the best option. On the plus side Maholm, Snell, Duke and Ohlendorf all have looked good to decent. 4 outa 5 aint too bad I guess.

Here's what the Giant's team should look like on opening day. (Note, I only listed 24 players, bottom note should say who will probably be the 25th player)

        Starting Rotation

        1) Tim Lincecum
        2) Matt Cain
        3) Randy Johnson
        4) Barry Zito
        5) Jonathan Sanchez

        Bullpen
LR - Joe Martinez or Ramon Ortiz
        MR - Merkin Valdez
        MR - Alex Hinshaw
        MR - Luis Perdomo
        SU - Jeremy Affeldt
        SU - Bob Howry
        CL - Brian Wilson

        Lineup:
        LF - Fred Lewis
        SS - Edgar Renteria
        RF - Randy Winn
        C - Bengie Molina
        CF - Aaron Rowand
        3B - Pablo Sandoval
        1B - Travis Ishikawa
        2B - Emmanuel Burriss

        Bench:
        2B/OF - Eugenio Velez
        OF - Nate Schierholtz
        2B/3B/SS - Juan Uribe
        1B/3B - Rich Aurila

*25th player will probably be either one of these players:
        C - Steve Holm
        OF - Andres Torres
P - Joe Martinez or Ramon Ortiz

        * - Bochy said he wants the backup catcher to be Sandoval and either Uribe or Aurila filling in at 3rd. If not, Holm would be the backup catcher and either Uribe or Aurila going down to Triple A.

*Sergio Romo is on the 15 day DL, but when he comes back up I'd expect Valdez to either be sent back to Triple A or slipping into the LR role with Martinez and Ortiz going down to Triple A.

I'm hearing rumors that Felix Hernandez is actually 2 or 3 years older than he claims to be. Something about using his younger brother's birth certificate. I expected this.
                Adjust accordingly Knight.

It looks like the Padres team will look like this

                  CF - Gerut
                  2B - Eckstein
                  RF - Giles
                  1B - Gonzalez
                  3B - Kouzmanoff
                  LF - Headley
                  C - Hundley
                  SS - Rodriguez

                  Bench

                  OF Hairston
                  OF Floyd
                  INF - E. Gonzalez
                  INF - Cabrera
                  C - Blanco

                  SP Peavy
                  SP Young
                  SP Walter Silva
                  SP Correia
                  SP Hill

                  Bell
                  Meredith
                  Sanchez
                  Mujica
                  De La Cruz
                  Edwin Moreno

Arturo Lopez or Luke Gregerson will likely get the last spot, longshot is Justin Hampson. I would personally like to see Gregerson as he is pitching pretty good since coming over from STL however i wouldn't be suprised to see Black go with 1 of those lefties of either Lopez or Hampson.

Cha Seung Baek likely to start season on DL.

edit - Jae Kuk Ryu and Hampson were just released.

No offense franch1se...but I just couldn't get excited for baseball if my team was fielding a squad like that.
                      I sympathize.

                        trust me......im not

In a season that was already going to be a wash, i don't know why we signed Eckstein and picked up Giles option. I would rather watch young prospects like Antonelli or Venable or others. I hope Cabrera gets the majority of the starts over Luis Rodriguez. It isn't fun picking up the waiver wire rejects.

I like your thinking. Knight - for any Dominican born player in the game - just go ahead and add 2 - 3 years to their age and adjust accordingly. Gotta be safe

hes actually Venezuelan but it wouldn't surprise me. i will add that venezuela doesn't tend to have the birth certificate problem that the DR and cuba have. and scouts had been looking at felix since he was like 13 or 14 which would make it a stretch being that he wasn't built and didn't have the features of a person near the end of puberty.

and to the people saying cordero and tyler johnson not being in the majors at the start of the season can you point me to where it says that? the depth chart and jim street have them both on the 25 man roster.

lastly randy messenger was cut. garrett olsen and chris shelton were optioned to AAA.

Quoting myself to point out that I was wrong. Leyland indicated today that Rodney would get the call in a save situation on opening day, so I'd make him the closer for now. However, he also said that if there was another save situation on Tuesday, it might be Lyon. Very fluid situation, but for now I'd go with Rodney.
