A long season for the O's no doubt. At least we can hit.

Today's update is if Chris Gomez doesn't make the 25-man, he's going to ask for a release and catch on somewhere else.

Re: Full Minors Roster for '09

Some Tigers news this morning. Clay Rapada was optioned to AAA Toledo and Scott Williamson was sent to minor league camp. Rick Porcello, Ryan Perry, Juan Rincon, and Eddie Bonine have been told they've made the roster. Porecello and Minor will start, while Roberston is going to the pen.

That sets the pitching staff, although the exact rotation is unclear, because they open with games in Toronto and then play their home opener without a day off, meaning the fifth starter will start the home opener. Leyland has stated that Verlander will start opening day, followed by Jackson, and that he'd like to have Galarraga start the home opener. So right now, it looks like...

          Verlander
          Jackson
          Minor
          Porcello
          Galarraga

Although, I think Minor and Galarraga could end up switched. The bullpen roles are still mostly up in the air, Rodney and Lyon have both struggled this spring, so I would think they'd go with the default of Lyon closing and Rodney setting up. If so...

          Lyon
          Rodney
          Seay
          Perry
          Rincon
          Bonnine
          Robertson

For the position players, they've waived Hessman, and optioned Raburn to AAA, meaning the battle for the final roster spot is down to Jeff Larish (the likely leader) and Brent Clevlen, who is out of options. That leaves the following bench...

          Treaner
          Santiago
          Anderson
          Larish/Clevlen

More Orioles news: O's traded Hayden Penn to the Marlins for Robert Andino. Andino is expected to make the 25-man roster on the bench for the O's, meaning that Chris Gomez and Jolbert Cabrera are probably gone. Gomez has said he won't go to the minors, not sure about Cabrera.

                hey Knight.

Edward Mujica was traded to the Padres for PTBNL or cash.

Also, i don't know if he made it into your set for the Padres but if he did, Manny Ayala was traded to the Phillies.

Sounds like the Tigers roster has gotten an overhaul in the past day or so. My 'chise will have to wait a little longer. Good thing I didn't just jump into one with Gary Sheffield as my DH all season.

Also, Josh Barfield has played 3B some and a lot of OF this spring in order to increase his versatility. He looked pretty good in CF one game I saw. Ryan Garko has played LF and RF as well to get himself in the lineup on days where Shoppach, Martinez, and Hafner all play.

                            Pitching Rotation

                            5) Ryan Rowland-Smith-LHP

                            Bullpen
                            LR- Miguel Batista
                            MR- David Aardsma
                            MR- Roy Cocoran
                            MR- Mark Lowe
                            SU- Tyler Johnson
                            SU- Chad Cordero
                            CP- Brandon Morrow*

                            Bench-
                            Rob Johnson- C*
                            Ronny Cedano- SS/2B
                            Endy Chavez- LF
                            Wladamir Balentien-RF/OF*

                            Notes-
Jr is likely to start on opening day at LF but will see upwards of 70% of his playing time at DH. Endy Chavez will start most days in LF and bat 9th moving Jojima, Guitierrez, and Betancourt each up a spot in the order. This would also take Mike Sweeney out of the starting lineup.

Mike Sweeney and Chris Shelton are fighting for to get the backup 1B job which will also likely fill in for Jr on his days off. Sweeney is looking like the front runner because of experiance but anything could happen.

Brandon Morrow is on the 15-day DL but should be ready for opening day.

Rob Johnson got the backup catcher spot because of his defense and the DH competition that knocked Jeff Clement out of the running about a week ago.

The final OF spot is a fight between Balentien and Mike Morse. Balentien looks like the front runner because he can play all three OF spots. Both of theses guys are out of minor league options meaning that one of them will have to pass waivers which is unlikly, especially for Morse because he his such a solid hitter.

Chris Jakubauskas took the M's camp by storm puting up the lowest ERA for a starting pitcher on the team but might be in AAA to start the year on account of no ML experiance. He was in the cape cod league last year.

These are unofficial but this is likley what the team will look like according to Jim Street who's been following the M's since '86 for the Seattle PI and now MLB.com

As a huge M's fan I agree with the lineup and bench. The bullpen is off from what it will look like opening day. Tyler Johnson wont start the season in the bigs, neither will Cordero.
