Eddie Bonine's Knuckleball pitch
Dear RAZR,
Reference is made to your below comment:
"I'll see about it. If he doesn't throw it that much there really isn't a point in giving it to him. It also seems that it's more like a splitter than a knuckleball from the way he described it. I like to go by break rather than grip."
Since this is only my second post the rules do not allow me to place the website link here. However, I sent it to you in a PM. The article is found in the Tigers section of the Detroit Free Press on-line newspaper.
Apparently now as a relief pitcher he is using the knuckleball much more than he did last year as a starter. In fact the article says he only uses the fastball pitch more.
As far as pitch break etc. you are light years ahead of me and I will rely on your judgment as to how best to characterize the pitch.
Thanks for your help with the Full Minors roster.

Re: Eddie Bonine's Knuckleball pitch
As far as the Tigers/Braves trade of Darrow for Josh Anderson ... Darrow has a sidearm/undrhand motion (I'm sure RAZR already knew this, but just in case) and Dave Dombrowski stated that Anderson will be on the 25 man roster on opening day (he's out of minor league options). I don't know if this info helps, but I just thought I would throw it out there.Comment

Re: Full Minors Roster for '09
While I like what I see from the current Pirate FO, I'm not sure signing Wilson and/or Sanchez are in the best interest of the franchise. If they decide to increase the MLB payroll from $50 Mil to 80-90 Mil, then yeah, I'm OK with signing Wilson or Sanchez long term. However, unless they increase their major league payroll significantly, those 2 will not be very good values for the Pirates and will continue some of the mistakes of prior Pirate FO's.
If Wilson and Sanchez are asking for more than 18M/3years then Wilson will most likely not be a Pirate next year and Sanchez won't be in 2011.
Neither would be blocking any big prospects too, Bixler isn't as good defensively as Wilson and Ford will likely never hit as well as Sanchez. The best SS prospect is Jarek Cunningham and he is probably 4 years away from being in the majors (assuming he makes it).Last edited by GoBucs09; 03-31-2009, 09:12 AM."I am more valuable to my team hitting .330 than swinging for home runs." - Roberto Clemente

Re: Eddie Bonine Knuckleball
This is from detroittigers.com:
"As a starter, Bonine is known less for velocity and more for hitting the strike zone, mixing his pitches and making opponents mi**** the ball for outs, a plan that resulted in his 12 wins with the Mud Hens last year. As a reliever, Bonine has given hitters a steady diet of sinkers and knuckleballs to go with a fastball that has gained some life.
"I think one of the biggest things is he knows he's not going to be out there long, so he throws harder," Leyland said.
Bonine the starter threw the knuckler in certain situations last season. With encouragement from Tigers coaches, the reliever Bonine has made the knuckleball a bigger part of his arsenal when he gets ahead in counts. To further the point, he has developed a second knuckleball, with less velocity and more movement than his usual one. That's similar to the approach famed knuckleballer Tim Wakefield has used for years.
"That's very good," Leyland said of the knuckler. "It can be real nasty."
Bonine isn't nearly in that mode yet, because he throws more of his other pitches. But deception is working to his favor. More consistent mechanics, meanwhile, are helping him throw better pitches. Consistency was one of the biggest keys he observed during his time with the Tigers last summer. "I'm trying to become more comfortable with my delivery, staying back and keeping my position strong," Bonine said. "You can't just go out there and be crazy mechanically and expect to pound the strike zone continuously."

Re: Full Minors Roster for '09
I wouldn't expect them to increase the payroll to 80-90 million for Wilson and Sanchez. 60 Isn't out of the question though. Sanchez's option for next year will more than likely be exercised (8 Million up from 6.1 this year) and if he is serious about a long term extension then it would happen before the option and could be something like 3 years 18M (6M a year) and as for Wilson if he really wants to stay (he also has an option for 8.4M which the Pirates probably wont exercise) then he would likely be in the same situation as Sanchez 3 years for 18M and maybe as low as 15M. That wouldn't cause the Pirates payroll to rise at all and 18M for 3 years for each is exactly what they are worth in the current economy.
If Wilson and Sanchez are asking for more than 18M/3years then Wilson will most likely not be a Pirate next year and Sanchez won't be in 2011.

Re: Full Minors Roster for '09
I'm thinking of getting ready a version that would have this...
1-Lineup fix
2-40 man rosters for each team completed(ratings/faces complete)
3-top 100 prospects(ratings/faces complete)
4-Every player a real player(ratings done/NO FACE(but skin/info/height /weight correct)
This would significantly cut the production time and I can work on the faces and re-release.
As it stands now, I have...1-2-3 ready along with a FULLY completed AL EAST(every player...ratings/faces/info complete)
I want to see how much I can get done in the next few days...but I will be taking a different tact......doing the names/attributes for everyone first(this way, I can release it as stated if it looks good) rather than doing everything complete.
I know you're itchin' to start...so am I!

Re: Full Minors Roster for '09
I think that is a great idea. I would for sure donate because we all appreciate the hardwork that you are doing.
Also, there is no music attached to these rosters because it is impossible. The music comes from your hard-drive therefore he cant include music.Steelers - Pens - Pirates - Pitt - Braves - MagicComment
