    Re: O.S. Full Minors 2010

Ryan Garko waived by the Mariners. Mike Sweeney is going to make the team in his place as a DH/1B.

Man I wish they wouldn't have ditched Sweeney's face in favor of a generic one now. Why do they do that? He had a face last year, a good one too. Now that they had to add him to the latest roster update, he is completely generic with a horrible generic face. Can't they just put the face they took out back in?

I say add him. I don't really care either way but it would be easy for those who don't want him to just take him out of the roster when they get them.

I would also vote to leave Harper out, even if he signs in a decent amount of time after the draft, he will not be at a level of double A by the end of the year. Even if he does it will be incredibly late in the year. Which is VERY unlikely. And if he waits til the last second like Strasburg did, he won't even appear in A ball this year.

          Re: O.S. Full Minors 2010

In addition to the demotions of Carlson and Purcey mentioned on the last page, the Jays also assigned Jeremy Reed to minor league camp. The Jays site roster lists 12 position players on the roster so I don't think any more cuts will come from there.

Instead it seems that the cuts are coming from the pitching staff. Left on the roster are 16 guys fighting for 13 spots. Some of them are pretty much locked in already:

-Marcum, Romero, Morrow are fairly certain for the rotation
-Tallet and Eveland looks good for some role, one as starter #5 and one as a long reliever
-Frasor, Gregg, and Downs are pretty set in the bullpen as the late-inning guys
-McGowan is going on the DL almost certainly, so really there are only 2 cuts that will need to be made.

That leaves: Camp, Janssen, Accardo, Valdez, Cecil, Roenicke and Rzepczynski out of which 2 cuts need to be made. Camp and Valdez are out of options so they likely stay. that means that 3 of Janssen, Accardo, Cecil, Roenicke, and Rzepczynski need to fill out 1 rotation spot and 2 bullpen slots while 2 get demoted.

If I were betting, I'd say that Rzepczynski gets the #4 starter job, Janssen and Accardo go into the bullpen, while Cecil and Roenicke are bound for Las Vegas.

So the Jays roster will, in my estimation, look like this:

          lineup:

          Bautista (RF)
          Hill (2B)
          Lind (DH)
          Wells (CF)
          Overbay (1B)
          Encarnacion (3B)
          Snider (LF)
          Buck (C)
          Gonzalez (SS)

          Bench:
          MacDonald (SS/2B/3B)
          McCoy (OF/IF)
          Molina (C)
          Ruiz (DH/1B)

          Rotation:
          1) Marcum
          2) Romero
          3) Morrow
          4) Rzepczynski
          5) Eveland/Tallet

          Bullpen
          LR: Tallet/Eveland
          LR: Janssen
          MR: Camp
          MR:Valdez
          MR: Accardo
          SU: Gregg
          SU: Downs
          Cl: Frasor

          DL: McGowan

                        ksig,

first off, thanks to you, knight and ridin and everyone else contributing.

I have a question I've always pondered and was hoping maybe you had some insight. Why do minor league team affiliations seem to change so often? It seems every few years, the AAA teams shuffle around.

Yep, and both Buckner and Mulvey will start the season in AAA. And once Webb comes back, there's talk of placing him third in the rotation, making it:

                          Haren
                          Jackson
                          Webb
                          Kennedy
                          Lopez

but I'm not sure if that's official yet.
Yes, I've been here since 2003. No, I don't post much. I'm too busy playing the games.

I heard the Nats are not going to draft him. A Pirates insider told me that they are probably not willing to spend that amount of money twice in a row in the draft. I vote him out. Then again the same person told me Harper is 10 on the Pirates board and it has nothing to do with signability but overall ability. Commence Pirate bashing now.

(1.)I personally blame Cam Bonifay for drafting pitchers every year. He was drafting the 4 and 5 spot in the rotation in the first round. We are paying for Bonifay's and Littlefields ineptitude

(2.)basically pulling our scouting out of Latin America.

Let's think of the reasons they should/can:

They are in one of the 5 biggest television markets
they have revenues from a new ball park
adam dunn's salary comes off the books, i say trade him at the deadline for some prospects
DC sports fans will show up if theres a big star to be seen, the Caps are proof
i don't think they will spend as much money internationally this year considering the trouble Mr. Bowden got himself in in the past. We're pretty sure Harper isn't 24 right?
