Awesome I like Mitchell on the Giants as well. But who did you leave off? Bobby Bonds?

What about Gregg Jefferies on the Mets? 1st, 2nd or OF

Wow, hadn't thought of Jefferies. I could probably leave off Backman and put him in there. I loved him when I was a kid.

Okay, first off - you're awesome! I was wanting to do this, but found this thread and you just saved me about 5 months of work. I just read through the entire thread and though I don't always agree where you place a guy (team), I can always just roster move the ones I want later. I can't wait til you're done! I do have one question for you...

how do you get the players you are creating to have the actual # they wore? i.e. I've created Kirby Pucket and Mickey Mantle and since their #'s are retired - they default to #35 & #13 instead of #34 & # 7. Small pet peve of mine in the game.

          Re: All-Timers Teams

I believe you can only use retired numbers in Exhibition games. If their number is retired by the team, it will not let you use them in season mode or franchise. I've also had the issue of some guys having the same number, so it'll never be perfect, but I guess that's just one of the cons of doing something like this. As far as I know, there's nothing that can be done about it.

Update: Didn't get hardly anything done tonight. Storm knocked out our electricity and went on through the night, so I didn't want to get started and have it go out on me again. Have to work 12-hour shifts the next 2 days, so I'm not sure how much, if anything, I'll get done over the weekend. Stay tuned...

                    Re: All-Timers Teams

Hmmm. Seems that there's no way to make everyone happy on team placement, so here's the plan once the 40-man rosters are done:

I will fill up the minors and free agent pool with as many obscure players as I can think of or find in my old pile of random baseball cards until I run out of CAP spaces and/or editable players. At least, I'll try if I can stick with it. This might take until MLB 11 (or even beyond), but I really have always wanted to do this anyway. I just never had the right format to do it until now. This way, people can pretty much construct their own team as they wish.

So, there will be releases as follows:

                    MLB 25-Man rosters
                    MLB 40-Man rosters
                    MLB Complete All-Timers

I'm at work right now, so I can't work on anything, but just floating this idea out there.

I agree, half the fun is discussing the makeup of these rosters. Obviously you won't please everyone, but people can feel free to move players to the team they prefer once you finish. Keep doing what you're doing - you're doing a great job!

He'll definitely be on the 40-Man roster. It was between him and Dykstra, but Dykstra was one of my faves and I couldn't cut him and I couldn't really fit him on the Phillies, either...so Mookie will come at a later update.

Love the way these rosters are developing. My only issue so far, and it is only my opinion, is that Piazza should be on the Dodgers. He started his career there, he was younger there, he had probably the best batting year ever by a catcher in 1997, he had his 3 or 4 highest batting averages there, best stolen base year, best slg pct, best ob percentage, and highest total of homeruns, anyway you get the idea.

Two other very good reasons, I don't care for the Mets(remind me of the Yankees) and I am a Dodger fan.

Oh well, I'll just trade for him.

Great rosters, really looking forward to the. Keep up the good work.

                                Re: All-Timers Teams

My favorite team is the Dodgers, so I understand what you mean, and I still want to throw him on that Dodger team, but I had to do what was best for the roster itself. Roy Campanella is the Dodgers catcher, so if you had both of them, who do you bench? I couldn't make an argument for benching either of them while the Mets, the team Piazza himself has said that he enjoyed playing for most and wants on his HOF plaque if/when he gets in, could use him in an everyday capacity with no guilt on benching Hundley as his backup.

There's still a chance he could end up on the Dodgers, but I felt that for Piazza to get his most use, he should be on the Mets despite my bias to the Dodgers.
