Re: 2011 OSFM Pitch Edits
I appreciate the work. I've been doing my own re-ratings to MLB and MiLB pitchers and hitters, but I would still like to see what yours look like. I've corrected most starters and quite a few relief pitchers. As for position players, I've probably corrected/tweaked/corrected a couple of thousand attributes.
I hope that everyone who is interested appreciates your work. Editing rosters isn't fun. There's no reason default rosters should be this inaccurate. With that being said, they're more accurate than they've ever been, but it's still nowhere close to what I would consider close to accurate.Last edited by Jason_19; 04-27-2011, 07:12 PM.Comment

Jason_19 I would love to see your changes. I feel that a lot of minor league players are overrated.Comment

Re: 2011 OSFM Pitch Edits
Are you talking about the best MiLB players? If you are, I actually see it the opposite way. So, you probably wouldn't like my roster set. If you're talking about the lesser MiLB players, I can agree with that.Comment

Did you make these corrections to a roster file or a spreadsheet?

Re: 2011 OSFM Pitch Edits
I wouldn't mind sharing it, but I just don't want the criticism that comes with sharing a roster file. I know that most people who post here are mature and can convey thoughts in a proper manner, but that doesn't go for everyone. I publicly shared my football roster files from NCAA Football 2003 to NCAA Football 2010 and baseball rosters from MVP 2005 to MLB The Show 10.
Plus, on top of that I'm a perfectionist and even though I've went over hundreds of players, there are still hundreds who I haven't tweaked/corrected. I didn't make these changes in any certain order. Some top players, some top prospects have and some starting pitchers have not been tweaked/corrected, while more lesser known prospects have been tweaked. Also, I haven't got to uploading MiLB players who have better faces. I've only corrected a few MiLB player's faces here and there.
Also, I haven't got to test how the pitches break. I used the same scale for all pitch breaks, so if they're off, they could easily be corrected by adding or subtracting the same amount for every pitch type. I hope that makes sense.Last edited by Jason_19; 04-28-2011, 04:11 PM.Comment

Re: 2011 OSFM Pitch Edits
Interesting article from Fangraphs about slider usage and injury. As far as pitch edits go, the table I'm attaching has the 25 pitchers with the highest percentage of slider use since 2008. This is probably old news to anyone that did their due diligence for proper pitch edits, but many/most of these guys could have it set as their primary pitch:Attached FilesComment

Re: 2011 OSFM Pitch Edits
Scott, no, I didn't document the changes. The only thing that I kept track of was about half of the players who I edited. I ran a few mock drafts to see how players were ranked overall and to get an idea of the difference in the overalls between various types of players.
Something weird I noticed about fantasy drafts is that they do not give a clear indication of overalls because every once in a while, for some reason, players do not appear in the proper ranking position. For instance Albert Pujols, Adrian Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki seem to appear about 15-20 spots down on the list that shows all of the available players.
The reverse is true, as well. For instance, I saw quite a few players moving up about 40 spots on the draft ranking list, at times. This is just one example out of quite a few that I noticed. You will see a bunch of players moving up dozens of spots. I don't think this has anything to do with players having the same overall, either. I saw players who appeared to have fairly different overall bars changing spots. It's weird. I've noticed this since MLB 09.
With that being said, I know that overall ratings do not really mean anything because the game factors in all the attributes into the overall of a player.Last edited by Jason_19; 04-28-2011, 04:16 PM.Comment

Re: 2011 OSFM Pitch Edits
Most people probably wouldn't even like how I rate players. I rate my roster sets to play out how I think players will play. I also tend to scale attributes/ratings upwards.
As for the younger players, many people think I overrate many players on my NCAA football and baseball sets, but I usually hit on 85-95% of my projections. With that being said, the simulation stats seem to have a very wide range from the top players in the majors to the lower rated prospects in the minors. So, I rate players on how the actually play, instead of what simulation stats they will likely put up because I would rather have an accurate representation of the player in game than trying to get accurate simulation results that you can't get to be accurate because they vary too much.
Like I previously said, my roster file isn't anywhere close to where it needs to be, even though I've made a ton of changes to it.Last edited by Jason_19; 04-28-2011, 07:13 PM.Comment
