Re: Fictional Rosters
Yes...really nice job on these.
I'm in the process right now of ridding the set of the "ghost" players.
I'm also bringing these back in time a bit to reflect the early 60's.
(right now there are too many Latin and Asian players for what I'm doing...but as the drafts incorporate more players....they will be added back in to reflect the MLB through the 70's/80's and 90's!...yes I plan on doing a franchise that long with these!)
I'll be starting my Mets franchise playing in the Polo Grounds for 10 years...then move into Shea for 20 and then finish up in CitiField.
Thanks again to the guys who kept at it with these. It's a LOT of work. Trust me, I know!

In the past I did something like this for just one team. Having an entire set of fictional players is fantastic since I'm not limited by the players I create initially. I can pick and choose players for my team from the many hundreds of players created through this process. I'm also planning on playing a long-term franchise with these. I'm going to start by making the Twins a pretty average team loaded with aging veterans just so I can start a rebuilding project. I enjoy the story arch that begins with a franchise in the dumps (there is some reason to think the real Twins may be close to that now) trading away veterans for prospects, then builds it up the way I've heard Andy McPhail talk about: grow the arms at home because you can always buy the bats. Pitchers are too pricey and prone to injury, so you want to draft and develop pitchers internally. Once the rotation develops, you can always add those few extra pieces for the pennant chase.
Anyways, I look forward to playing with this set for quite awhile.Comment

Re: Fictional Rosters
Its cool to see people liking them. A lot of long hours was put into these rosters. Its all worth it when you here people getting those hours of enjoyment back out of it.
I picked my team for franchise by using a random number generator. It picked the dodgers, whom I hate but they are stacked so that makes it ok.Comment

Re: Fictional Rosters
You guys did a great job on these rosters. I got a chance to download them last night and check them out and when I get home tonight I will go back and "like" them because it is stupid that people can just dislike them for no reason.
I recommend that anybody who likes the rosters made on this community to actually go and "like" them in the game. Whether it is the fictional rosters created, the '98 rosters I created, the '87 roster, or any of the variations of Knights roster made by the OS community.
Just how I feel about the vault's rating process.
Again, bravo on these rosters. I know how hard it is to keep pushing through and finish them!

Re: Fictional Rosters
Excellent work!!!
Knight, are you going to pass on your "more 60's-ish" version, or is it already in a started franchise?
I like these a lot, but am just curious if naming them v.1 means there will be more?
I know there was talk about most players being average instead of some being "high-end" and others "low-end". Will this change over time as franchises move on? I also noticed that it seems like a lot of the (partially) better players are much older...which means they will be leaving sooner than later...will the young guys develop and become better?
I have never really played franchise for several years at a go, I wonder how the league will develop.
I like the '98 roster, too, but what is up with those silly names? RD Santiago for FP Santangelo? Levi for Livan? Worst is that some can't be taken off, though I have where ever I could. Really a masterpiece of effort, save for the quite silly naming conventions used.Last edited by JoeJoeJoeJoeJoeJoe; 05-18-2011, 04:42 AM.Comment

I'm not starting a franchise with them yet, I'm going to try and complete them first.
It's going to take a bit of time though. Giving 90 players the stirrup and old time equipment setup...removing the remaining dev players.....editing the amount of Latin players down a bit.....etc.
I have already moved all the ghost players to the FA list and put those FA list players on the teams. I've imported players from the fictional roster I have started myself(I used 5 of the teams) over a lot of the ghost players as well. If I used a guy more than once....I tried to alter his appearance as well.
It might take a while, but if guys want it and this team permits it....I'll finish them rather than finish them in franchise as I planned.

Re: Fictional Rosters
I believe that I speak for RM and the rest of the group on this issue Knight, we welcome all versions and adaptations of this roster. This "V1" was meant to be a base roster for many expansions and creations, all that could possibly be conceived. We not only welcome your adaptation, we encourage it.
As for the question of whether or not there will be an official "V2", yes there will be. RM is working on tweaking ratings and the like and I am doing some appearance tweaks to make sure we don't have to many look-a-likes. This is a long process however, so don't expect it anytime soon. RM has a long list, on the front page, of things he wants to address and he is waiting until I get the appearance tweaks done. Which is gonna take a few more days for that to be finished. We don't currently have a timeline for a "V2" completion and are just working on it as we have time.
If I miss-spoke anywhere in this post RM feel free to correct me.Comment

Re: Fictional Rosters
That is great news! After I posted yesterday, I was thinking about it and hoped the post didn't come off as too negative or insulting or anything. I really do think you guys did a tremendous job and am enjoying them a lot.
I really like the idea of Knights, and look forward to using that roster set. I agree with slugger-bugger (I love that name) that the amount of options and directions these can go in is great, and I love the idea of "NO-pajama" pants. Plus, I noticed some of the same things as Knight, so I think it will be a great variation.
No time-frame needed either, on V2. These are just really cool and anything else to come along will just be gravy on the meal, my fantasy draft here has me set up nicely in Seattle (though my superstar, who was the #1 overall draft [yes, I was lucky enough to be #1 picker], went hitless in his first series against the A's...and was pathetic in doing so).
Ps- I LOVE the uni options The Show gives us now. Only thing I don't like is the lack of variation...such as the Yanks or Dodgers. I wish they had included something different than the same uni over several times, like I know the Dodgers have had Blue road jerseys, and the Yanks had Yankees written on there Jerseys 80 years ago or something, and where are the colors in Pittsburgh. I know, SCEA has to use style guide, but I still would love to see some uni variation on teams. The way it is though, it is cool to be able to mix and match...what an EXCELLENT idea! (that was a really long Ps- sorry)Comment

Re: Fictional Rosters
Contemplating using these as a base for port of the Franchise Stars rosters I did for OOTP a few years back. Would be great to play with the greats in a visual setting.
I've always contended EA Sports or these guys could make a killing releasing a fictional setting, fully editable and customizable baseball game. I don't get why they don't, particularly EA, which was knocked out of the game solely by MLB licensing.Comment
