I did a Fantasy Draft with this roster set and wound up with the No. 1-rated team! So far I'm 3-1 with the Mets and the games have been an absolute blast as I try and learn all the players on my team.

Re: Fictional Rosters
Just wanted to thank you for the fictional rosters they are fantastic. I followed the advice on the forum and did a fantasy draft giving different traits to each team. Some power focus some OBP some speed. I then tried to play a few series with several teams and focused on four during the first season. I made several big trades with the dodgers shipping veterans out for young arms (dodgers were 20 games out). I helped the Yankees win the division by a game over Baltimore by sending them the dodgers veteran ace but did grab their prized centerfield prospect. I am starting to really learn the players. During season 2 I will focus on all teams but play with the White Sox. They are about 500 and have some nice kids about to come up.
So far my favorite players are Von Vincent 270 something hitter but has power and speed. Plays center for Chicago AL in my league. Also Arturo Valentin (1B Reds), Anthony Manning (3B Yankees), and Theo Foreman (1B Boston and a beast 35HR 330AVG). Great work!!!!!Comment

Re: Fictional Rosters
I was weary of playing with a fictional roster, since I like the real MLB and the authenticity, but I gave these a **** and super impressed.
I felt I stopped saying to myself "He wouldn't do that" or "he's not that good" because there's no reference besides the one you create in playing these rosters.
I decided to play a franchise and RTTS with these and inspired me to create a random player generator. thanks for the great work.Comment

Re: Fictional Rosters
Simmed the first year and finished about 500 with the Padres. I put together a breakdown of my 2012 team if anyone is interested:
2012 San Diego Padres
Starting Pitchers
Alejandro Amenzaga RHP 28years old 2011 12-12 4.96ERA
Amenzaga broke into the league in 2011 and while he struggled in the first half going 1-7 he bounced back strong after the break. We traded away Nick Cook to the Cubs last year probably putting them over the top so Amenzaga will have to step in as our number 1 starter. He has potential and a devastating curve but probably more suited for a number 2-3 role.
Mariano Torres LHP 25years old 2011 5-12 4.87ERA
Torres struggled last year but our scouts tell us he has potential to develop into a middle rotation pitcher. His fastball tops off in the lower 90’s and he has problems keeping the ball in the park. If he struggles early we may have to move him down to 3-4 starter.
Gus Lancaster RHP 28years old 2011 10-15 3.90ERA
Gus is reliable he was not terrible and not good last year. More or less the definition of a lower to mid rotation starter. He will give us solid innings and hopefully keep us in more games then not.
Tony Martinez RHP 36years old 2011 11-5 3.68ERA
The crafty veteran Martinez came out of nowhere in 2011 to give us a very solid year. He’s old and his stuff is not overpowering but he somehow gets outs. Let’s hope his age does not catch up with him.
Colin Vaughn LHP 22years old
Our top pitching prospect it seemed like the entire league tried to acquire him via trade with us last year. We held onto Vaughn and he will break into the league as our fifth starter. His fastball tops off in the low 90’s but he has very good secondary pitches and pinpoint control. Let’s hope Vaughn lives up to the hype.
Ronny Drew LHP 25years old
Drew will start the year in triple A but is a top prospect and has a devastating power fastball clocked consistently in the high 90’s. He has to work on his control but this kid looks like the real deal.
Bullpen
Felix Cruz LHP 26years old 2011 5-6 3.42ERA
May have been overused last year we are going to try to pitch Cruz primarily against lefties. He has good control and a nice curve that should get lefties out.
Li Si RHP 29years old
Li Si joins the Padres from Japan and our scouts assure us he will be solid out of the pen. He looked fair during spring training possessing an average fastball and change. We hope for solid innings out of the pen.
Roy Robinson RHP 27years old 2011 5-5 3.84ERA
We hope Robinson can anchor our pen and be the bridge to O’Brian in the 9th. He has a mid 90’s fastball and a good curve. He’s looked good this spring and we would like to see him take a big step forward in 2012.
Alfanso Martinez RHP 25years old 2011 4-3 4.36ERA
Another question mark in our pen. Like most of our staff Martinez is young and our scouts say he has potential. He was fair in 2011 and given the state of our rotation and lack of a veteran presence we will need him to step up in 2012.
Adam Glass LHP 30years old 2011 8-0 2.58ERA
Glass was fantastic in 2011 both against righties and lefties. His stuff is ranked at bellow average but he gets outs. A bit worried he will regress in 2012 but he may be the key to our pen.
Zack Brown LHP 33years old
Our third lefty Brown did not pitch in 2011 and will probably start as our long man in 2012. His stuff is ranked bellow average by our staff.
Jerry O’Brian RHP 27years old 2011 2-0 2.71ERA
A top fastball top control and devastating slider O’Brian is a star. He is our closer and they don’t come much better.
Catcher
Andres Pena R 29years old 2011 28HR, 98RBI, .258AVG
Pena is one of the top catchers in the league. He is above average defensively and an offensive producer. He will primarily bat behind Gant and Wheeler and should consequently have the opportunity to drive in runs.
Bryan Dickson R 31years old
Veteran backup will give Pena a spell every now and again.
First Base
Dinario Hackett R 25years old
Paul Woods departed for the Yankees during the offseason so Hackett will have to fill in. It looks like he could use more development time but he is our best prospect at first base. He appears to take a lot of pitches but at this point has limited power and plate coverage.
Second Base
Jerry Gates R 26years old 2011 11HR, 40RBI, .274AVG
Our scouts rave about this guy but his production was only fair in 2011. He is supposed to have a big future so we will keep our eyes on him.
Shortstop
Seth Browning S 27years old 2011 15HR, 51RBI, .252AVG
His development is supposed to be limited but he hits from both sides of the plate is good defensively and was productive for a shortstop in 2011. Hopefully he exceeds our expectations.
Raul Silva R 26years old 2011 3HR, 33RBI, .250AVG
Silva plays all over the infield and should prove a valuable utility man and bat off the bench.
Third Base
Willie Grant R 30years old 2011 38HR, 116RBI, .350AVG
The 2011 batting champ Grant does everything great. The best third baseman in the league his production at the hot corner is unmatched and he will anchor our lineup. Only problem is his contract is up after the 2012 season!!!!
Outfield
Ron Wheeler L LF 29years old 2011 36HR, 123RBI, .284AVG
This guy reminds me of Darryl Strawberry. He’s lanky tall hits for power and has above average speed. I penciled him in as our number 4 hitter batting around Grant and Pena. This should be a very nice 3-4-5 punch.
Paul Sanders R CF 25years old 2011 6HR, 46RBI, .274AVG
Sanders was the key piece that came over in the deal sending our top starter Cook to the Cubs. The Cubs cashed in winning the series while Sanders was fair at best as our starting centerfielder. This is the kind of player we want to build our team around. He has huge potential, is already a top defender and can steel a good number of bases. We hope to have Sanders patrolling center for many years to come.
Allen May R CF/RF 26years old 2011 11HR, 58RBI .290AVG
May came over from the Yankees as a free agent. They were already stacked after signing Woods. He seems to be a slap hitter that will use all fields and may steel some bases. He is an average defender at best but should get on base. We have him penciled in as our starting RF.
Matt Richards L RF/LF 24years old 2011 0HR, 1RBI .171AVG
Richards spent a good portion of 2011 in triple A and on the DL. Our scouts think he can be a productive regular albeit with limited power for RF/LF. We will try and get him a decent number of at bats off the bench and perhaps platoon with May in RF depending on how the latter develops.
Hisako Numura R LF/RF 35years old 2011 3HR, 22RBI .257AVG
Numura may get some time in right and adds a veteran bat off the bench.
Blair Foley R CF/LF/RF 29years old 2011 9HR, 55RBI .238AVG
Our scouts think Foley can develop into a regular but he is already 29 and has not been productive enough to start in the outfield. With May, Richards and Numura it is not clear what role he will have on the team. Perhaps if Sanders becomes a complete bust he can get some time in center.Comment

Re: Fictional Rosters
I hope the project goes on for 2012 and on although I am sure it is a ton of work. For me the fictional rostors have injected tons of new life into the game and I plan to play in 2012 and beyond with the 11 set if no new ones come out. Just want to thank you all for the amazing work on these. The more games I play the more interesting players and looks I see.
PS
I have some stats like NL/AL gold teams I did for my 2011 season just so I could get to know the top players. I can post the stats like my team breakdown if anyone is interested? (Cubs WS champs 2011 Yankees 2012)Comment

Re: Fictional Rosters
Second version (stronger players...better version, I think) I played as the Mets. I did a fantasy draft again, and I am in 1st week of August now. FLA has been leading most of the year, usually by 2 to 5 games (I know I was 7 out at one point).
I got on a roll last 2 months, and a few days ago NYM, FLA & WAS were tied, with PHI only 2 games out. I have played well lately, and right now am leading by 2, 2-1/2 and, 2-1/2 over those 3 teams. Atlanta is 16 games out.
In all the baseball I have played through video games, I think this might be the MOST FUN I ever had. It was like having a BRAND NEW MLB to learn. I loved it.
The only one that might compare was Earl Weaver Baseball, with the 8 classic teams of stars (I renamed them to the Cubs (00-30), Cardinals (31-45), Dodgers (46-60) and Giants (61-75) for each era; the AL was NY Yankees (00-30), Athletics (31-45), Red Sox (46-60) and Tigers/Orioles (61-75)...used either of those at different points).
Obviously, these games are just so head & shoulders above that Earl Weaver game, but that was the 2nd most fun I ever had...with these rosters being the 1st!
We CANNOT transfer seasons to MLB 12 (which has me infuriated), so PLEASE (please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please) make these rosters again. I am not sure I can go on without them, and fully plan on continuing to play MLB 11 at least until my NY Mets season is over.
I want more, I want more, I want more...
and you guys deserve a MILLION thanks for every bit of work you did. I like the 2nd, revised set a lot more, many more stars and superstars, and more balanced players, but these are PHENOMENAL.
THANK YOU!!!
...and THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR THIS YEAR!!!Last edited by The_Fordham_Flash; 03-03-2012, 04:57 PM.Comment
