Re: Scott's OSFM ZiPS Re-rated Rosters

For hitters, clutch gives a small ratings boost with runners in scoring position as stated by Russell. David Freese had a .354 average with RISP last year, hence the boost. Probably works the same for pitchers as well, although I prefer WPA/LI and strand rate personally.

the fielding ratings are from Fangraphs' fan ratings, which come from Tango Tiger. I don't know if they were adjusted based on maximums, for example the highest speed rating was Brett Gardner at 90 so in-game he should have 99, Bourjos 98, etc. The cool thing about these is that the whole 0-99 scale is used, and just because someone like Pierzynksi has a 16 for arm strength doesn't mean that he is incapable of throwing out baserunners since I've done it with him on multiple occasions.

The ZiPS U projections on Fangraphs are lacking L/R splits but with some simple math you can apply the changes to the original ratings. They're updated daily so I don't know if Scott is taking that into account.

Re: Scott's OSFM ZiPS Re-rated Rosters

Ok I ran three sims here, one that disproves the my original hypothesis, one that disproves another possible thought and one that brings up an interesting question.

Sim 1: Gave reliever a higher clutch then closer
Hypothesis: the reliever would have more saves then closer
Conclusion: For all 30 teams, the hypothesis was proven untrue.

Sim 2: Reliever had highee overall, same clutch as closer
Hypothesis: The highest overall reliever would get the most saves
Conclusion: False, the closer once again had the most saves

Sim 3: No closer assigned, same overall, different clutch for each reliever
Hypothesis: highest clutch gets most saves
      Conclusion: hypothesis proven true

Based on this, I say we can conclude that the "clutch rating" is the second most important factor when determining saves. Thankfully the assigned closer gets the most saves, which is exactly what we want.

I'll continue looking at this as its only 3 sims but it seems accurate for the most part.

I was actually debating going and lowering all the speed ratings on my roster by 5-10 simply because Billy Hamilton is so fast. I was also debating raising my base runner speed slider because even at 99, he isn't fast enough in my game.. I'm not sure how much the slider adds/subtracts though.

Not a Reds fan but he is fun to play with and I hope he can hit because he would be fun to watch in the bigs. Currently have 29 SBs in 37 games with him in the second year of my fantasy franchise.

and nice info from the tests on the RPs/CPs.

Put his baserunning ability and agressiveness at 99 each. He'll steal an acurate number of bases then.

He has 80 in 66 games. That isn't even a typo. I don't even know how that's possible...

OK, I just downloaded TheGame's spreadsheet from the top of page 13, because... why not? However, I'm getting a 60 in AP math.....

So I have no clue how to do these things. Could someone very nice walk me through this? Because I'm too stupid to understand lolololol

Thanks for your help, in advance!
