Cubs Player Potential Discussion: 2013 OSFM roster

I would lower ratings rather than potential (like vitters) cause potential is still there, just not likely to reach it. As for second positions I would make sure any minor league outfielder is able to play both left and right and any cf's can play all 3. Should be a given obviously but just so it's not overlooked.

That's fine MrOldboy. I greatly appreciate the work you have done this year. I'll have to look in the vault for him or create him myself.Comment

Re: Cubs Player Potential Discussion: 2013 OSFM roster
I have him at a B-. I can remake him as a C or C+ if you guys feel he has dropped off a bit. Or I can adjust his ratings to something lower and it would take longer or he may never reach his ceiling, similar to what seanjeezy said about Vitters being an A potential.
Yong does look pretty nasty, but I never really considered him for the set. I thought that younger prospects are what should go in first and there are plenty who wont even make it in.
edit: I'm going through the player's secondary positions, if there are any players you guys think should have a secondary. For example Javier Baez will have 3B since he may move over there. Things like that, even if they haven't played there before. Knight said its better to have them play too many positions that be limited down the road.
For the position players, all the CF in the system can play corners, Alcantara can play 2nd, Torreyes can play an OK SS, Bruno can play everywhere, Lake can play 3B and OF, can manage at SS but isn't ideal there. Tell me anyone else and i'll give a secondary.Comment

Re: Cubs Player Potential Discussion: 2013 OSFM roster
OK at this point I am bumping against the player limit.
With all the SCEA pitchers on the roster right now we have 45 pitchers. I was hoping some would get released. With Peralta and Rivero getting added it pushed two off.
This isn't even counting Moscoso if he stays on the Cubs, he'll knock someone else off.
As it is now the pitchers that cannot fit are.
Dallas Beeler
Dayan Diaz
Marcus Hatley
Jeffry Antigua
I can replace another pitcher with one or all these guys. I'd like to get Beeler on and maybe take off one of the D pitchers, Lewis or Weathers perhaps.
As it is now there are 3 spots open for position players (45 already filled by pitchers which is the max), these are the position players on the fringe.
Rubi Silva
Jae-Hoon Ha
Johermyn Chavez
Michael Burgess
Marco Hernandez
Gioskar Amaya
Some other last minute additions on my reserve list are Bruno and Devoss.
Positional considerations might be taken over preference if one of the teams needs an infielder or an outfielder in the end.
Its getting pretty late so we'll have to decide on who to put on the roster very soon even if we don't know if there will be space made once the real Cubs rosters are finalized. I'll leave these 3 spots open for now and just go with the 87 I have. It won't take long to make 3 players.Last edited by MrOldboy; 03-28-2013, 04:42 PM.Comment

Re: Cubs Player Potential Discussion: 2013 OSFM roster
Personally I'd like to see Chavez in. After the way he played this spring i think he has a good chance of getting a call-up with an injury or trade. I also agree if you can get Beeler in that would be the one of that list I like best.Comment

From the pitchers, Beeler and Hatley are the ones to go with. The other two are fringy types. Beeler is still a decent prospect and Hatley has great stuff(needs to work on command) and will probably be in AAA.
So. Amaya, Chavez, Ha, Beeler, Hatley, and if you can Hernandez.Comment

Re: Cubs Player Potential Discussion: 2013 OSFM roster
Looking around saw some rumors that a few players were released. Berken perhaps and Jay Jackson. These were just comments though by randoms online, no sound info yet.
Anyone know of any releases that happened recently. Would clear some room.Comment

If that happened someone credible would have reported it by now....I'm going to go ahead and say no until that happens. But those moves happening are not out of the question.Comment

Re: Cubs Player Potential Discussion: 2013 OSFM roster
This was posted on another forum, can't find where exactly AZ Phil said this
As far as I can determine, the following players were released last weekend:
INF Dustin Harrington, RHP Ty'Relle Harris, 1B Paul Hoilman, RHP Jay Jackson, and OF Nelson Perez
These five have disappeared and probably were released:
RHP Jason Berken, OF Eliecer Bonne, RHP Carlos Martinez, LHP Matt Spencer, and RHP Scott Weismann
It is possible that Bonne and/or C. Martinez might have been loaned to a team in the Mexican League. The Cubs have done that with Cuban defectors in the past.
Nelson Perez was going to be my first choice to get cut anyways as I have him at a D+.
OK, found it on TCR. He left it in the comments on one of his posts.

Re: Cubs Player Potential Discussion: 2013 OSFM roster
I think people were basing that off of AZ Phil at TCR removing some players from the depth chart.

If this is true it would free up two pitcher spots and a position player spot.
