In Marmol's small defense, had the home plate ump given us the same strike-zone Pittsburgh got he'd have at least come away with the save, even if still a nail-bitter.

Marmol is trash. End of story, his book is filled with blown saves, hit batsmen, walks, and meat balls. End of story. Trade him, release him, whatever. I want him gone.

It's much more than this meltdown.

If they can't find anyone to give back something of significance in return for Soriano, while taking on a large chunk of his contract, then it is pointless. Might as well keep him at this point if no other teams bring anything to the table.

The Cubs already have a weak offense, why would you want to trade a guy who hit over 30 HR and drove in over 100 RBI last year?

You really think they're going to be able to stick somebody out in LF that is going to get anywhere near those numbers right now? Heck no.

Its not like they are going to be competing this year. Might as well attempt to get some sort of prospect back that might help the team in the future.

Only if the prospects your getting back are actually worth something, and not just a couple of scrubs just to get rid of the guy. Some of us still want to see them have a chance to win now.

Unless an AL team gets desperate mid-season I'd rather they keep on to him. The return just won't be good enough just for salary relief, he's not Wells. Unless the Cubs' debt is worse than people thought. But attendance has been dropping since 08 so why make your current club any worse. They need to keep fans interested for the time being and Soriano was a big reason why last season wasn't completely boring to watch.

For what you'd get for Soriano, the Cubs are best off just taking what he gives us (which has been better over the past year or so than what it was in 2009-2011). By the time his contract is up, the Cubs should be staring at Soler and Almora and Baez, with hopefully a better Brett Jackson. Mark Appel (should be Cubs pick at #2 this year since the Astros won't want to deal with Scott Boras again) will be on the fast track to the majors, and the Cubs will need to keep developing organizational pitching depth to have a chance. The O will be there in 2-3 years...as weak as it is now.

Not sure I agree with the "meatballs"...though I 100% agree with the rest. Marmol's wildness (as atrocious as he is at finding the plate) makes him possibly the hardest to hit reliever in the majors. Problem is that batters have GREAT faith that he can't throw 3 strikes before he throws 4 balls, and the Cubs have little to no faith that he CAN. Is he the hardest to hit because players just don't swing due to that reason? Maybe...but he rarely serves up a meatball....because he's not that good at finding the heart of the plate

I'd be surprised if Sveum sends him out there again. I'd like to see him back in the 7th or 8th inning where he got his reputation as the nastiest middle man in baseball. He's not worth 10 million dollars, but he can still be valuable to the Cubs success if his heads stays on straight...which he's only proven he can keep it straight when it's not the 9th inning.

A little off topic, but does anyone have a good delivery for Shawn camp??? I've looked and tried a few but nothing is that close. Seeing what other people have for him. Thanks

Totally agree whole heartily. Marmol in the 7th-8th and let him stay there and get his confidence back.

Fujikawa is gonna be the real deal I think.

                            I like his stuff.

Jed may be in Dale's ear telling him to stick with Marmol as the Closer to that they can flip him for something at the deadline. I guess they hope he'll be decent like he was the second half of last season. If yesterday was a sign of how he's going to be, that plan may not work for long.

Well Bud Selig said he isn't worried about the Cubs debt so not sure if he is playing it off or if they really are fine.
