Well, after my last game I am definitely raising the solid hits slider by one. I won the game 3-2, 8 hits for both teams, but I probably should have had about 16 hits and scored a few more runs. Too many fly outs and ground balls on pitches that were right in the middle of the plate. The CPU pitcher was serving up BP.Comment

How many games have you played? Remember Psycho said not to come to any drastic conclusions until you've played 20 games.Comment

Well Physco I gotta give you some credit. The user/ cpu pitching feels almost perfect ( I play with no ball marker, outfield view)
Hitting seems really good. I might tone down user a tad bit more because i;m getting more than 10 hits per game ( I don't use guess pitch or any other hitting option i.e strike zone)
What I did change were most of your global sliders.
1. Fielder speed -1 (too slow anything -2)
2. Pickoffs +1 ( you don't want to exploit the cpu with stealing, at least with +1 they check on you and throw over)
3. Reaction time -3 ( This really only affects cpu, putting it at +5 your going to see the cpu field, jump, dive much better while you the user gets NO benefit)
4. Fielder arm -2 ( Perfect at -2)
5. Baserunner speed, steal ability, and frequency -1 ( They run too fast and at default you will see guys that NEVER STEAL... STEAL! )
Overall they are great sliders and I am currently using them when I play this game. Maybe making it a tad bit harder and i;ll be set. Thanks.Comment

dub, people, can we please not make the amateur mistake of playing one or two games and deciding something is wrong. I have geuinely won big, lost big, won small, lost small, won medium lost medium its all about variety and you will ONLY get that variety with the fullness of time.
delo, they are some big adjustments away from what i have it at, each to their own naturally and whatever works for you, but you arent really playing with this set are you, more your own heavily modded version of themComment

Re: ***The 'Perfect' Slider Set*** MLB 09 - The Show
Ugh, I just finished another game, and instead of hitting fly balls, everything was hit into the ground. It was like the ball was made of metal, and the ground was a big magnet. I'm completely frustrated at this point. No matter what set of sliders I play with I can not drive in runs with men on base. Instead of the pitcher being rattled, which is what happens to mine in the same situation, the CPU pitcher becomes better and is able to paint the corners and becomes nearly impossible to hit.Comment

Here's what I mean: with men on first and second, the CPU is going to try to get you to hit a weak grounder or pop up. That means there's a decent chance you'll see a ball just out of the zone to entice you. The key is to know how a real pitcher would try to get you out in that situation because the game is so well programmed that that's what they'll actually do. As a batter, then, the key is to show patience. Take that first pitch, even the second, to see if you can't work the count in your favor and get a better chance of seeing something up in the zone that you can drive.
Alternatively, if you know they're going to pound you low in the zone, "pre-load" for a pitch down there with the L stick, and try to drive one.
I hope that helps some strategically. The reason you're finding so many balls hit into the ground in those situations is because the CPU pitchers are trying their damnedest to get you to do that.
Sometimes you won't be able to work the count, and sometimes you won't be able to go dig one, but adjusting your approach will yield better results over the long haul.
I've found that you pretty much have to approach every pitch and every at bat with a real solid idea of what you have to accomplish and what the CPU needs/wants to do in that situation. IMO, that's a great thing, but it does take some concentration.Comment

dub, honestly, mate, you are basing these frustrations on individual games. I would suggest you go into BP and perhaps try and show lots of patience, this sounds to me like a hitting rather than a slider problem, practice makes perfect?
edit: AutumnWood has said exactly what i would say had i more time. Approach is everything.
p.s. Owl, dont worrry mate, theyre fine as is.Comment

Re: ***The 'Perfect' Slider Set*** MLB 09 - The Show
I found that I had the same problem with runners in scoring position, and the solution for me wasn't so much sliders (I'm playing on default AS with some minor pitching tweaks) as much as it was my approach.

And, Psycho, I'm not saying there's a problem with your sliders, these are the best of the bunch for me so far. I'm just really frustrated at this point. I've never gone this many games (over 40) without scoring more than 5 runs. I don't want to give up on this game though, it's the best sports game I've played in a long time.
Thanks for the help all, hopefully things turn around for me.Comment
