Re: ***The 'Perfect' Slider Set*** MLB 09 - The Show

Quick question about the difference between swing only and using the left stick to influence the swing. According to the online Help in the game, only Rookie mode doesn't require the use of the left stick. I have been playing a combination of Veteran and All-Star and have been using the left stick.

Then I noticed some guys saying they just swing on these difficulty setitngs and don't use the left stick. How does that work?

If the ball is high and I just press X am I still going to hit it or do I need to push up on the left stick to direct my swing up in the zone?

    Thanks in advance.

Psycho, played 2 games with your sliders. I don't have the box score with me but they played out great. Both games were nailbiters and a little nerver racking (man this game puts you through an emotional roller coaster)

Well, here is what happened. I was playing the Indian in my Yankees franchise at Yankees stadium and in game 1 I was down fast in the first inning. Burnett hung a curve to Martinez and he sent it over the right field wall. 2-0 after the first. Burnett settled down and pitched 6 scoreless innings. Carmona was pithcing really well. He had me off balance all game. I finally got to him in the 7th inning. I got back to back HRs from Swisher and Tex. Game was tied up unitl the 8th where I led off with a double with Cano and eventually drove him in ( i forget how) So onto the 9th and I bring in Mo and thankfully he shut the door. I was a little bit nervous since with 1 out, Hafner hit a double. I got the next batter (Garko?) to pop out and the final out was a grounder to 3rd where Swisher gobbled it up and fired a bullet to first. (Swisher pkaying 3rd bc Arod is out 4 weeks )

Game 2 with these sliders was great too. Again I was losing early and Wang was going up against Reyes. I don't know what it was about Reyes, maybe his windup and pithcing motion but I had a hard time picking up the ball from his hand. (Psycho, when you get a chance, try to play the Indians and face Reyes and you tell me if you have a hard time with him too ) Anyway, Reyes was pithcing a No hitter until the 5th when Teixiera broke it up with a single up that middle. After that I couldnt get anything going again. I was always early and his damn changeup down was too tempting for mer to lay off. I forget how the Indians scored their runs but I do know Seizmore took Wang deep at one point. Fast forward to the 8th inning and that is when my bats finally woke up. I basically scored 5 runs that inning (all runs by singles and doubles) and took the lead going into the 9th inning. Mo came in once again and shut the door but again with 2 ouits he gave up 2 straight singles so now there was a man on 1st and 2nd wioth 2 outs. Carrol up to bat and I get him to pop out to Tex for the final out.

All in all, so far im linking your sliders and the game(s) played well.

Edit--Oh and another thing, the Wind was blowing out at Yankees stadium (about 15-20 MPH and man do the balls fly out when the wind is blowing. I think SCEA did a good job with the wind and how it affect fly balls. Im kind of nervous having to go into Chicago. Hope my bullpen is rested )

Shady, no you dont need to aim the L Stick to hit up/down etc, it can help, but i cant do the two things at once quick enough so go with swing only and im fine.

ckarlic, thanks, good feedback, 2 good games there. Just for you my game tonight when i finish work will be Indians @ Yanks - ill do as you did take the Yanks and have Wang v Reyes, see how i pick up Reyes' delivery

Thanks PsychoBulk. I'm a former MVP 05 guy so I was already used to the using the left stick for swinging, but it seems harder to hit on this game so I might just go swing only for a while and see how that works out.

I think I have the pitching figured out as I am usually striking out 7-8 CPU batters a game. I just can't score enough runs.

I am having the same problem. I can't score to save my life. I've had games where I get 13+ hits and am only able to score 2 runs. I would love to see some variety with this game, but so far I see the same thing game after game. It's becoming boring and very frustrating.

Hey Bulk , good to see you back but you gotta lower arm strength 3 max , kinda of just like 10-1 on fielder reaction /speed On allstar the only thing really different is users batting skills
              Take care mate

Re: ***The 'Perfect' Slider Set*** MLB 09 - The Show

Just got done with my first game with these sliders. Overall, i really liked them. I know its going to take 10 plus games or more to get a good feel for them.
I won 6-0. I was Bos and played TB. This is the first game where i have actually seen a big difference in score, or a small blowout, lol. Usually my scores were 1-0, 2-1, etc. This is good news for me anyway. Lester pitched for me and went the distance with 7 k's and only allowed 3 hits. Garza pitched for them and i scored all 6 of my runs off of him, only 3 were Earned, in the first 3 innings and then they brought in J.P. Howell and he shut me down for 4 innings. I couldnt do much on him for some reason. I ended up with 12 hits to there 3 hits. I had 1 error to their 2 errors.
So far so good since i actually had a lopsided win. I havent had any of those using Default sliders. I'll keep playing so to hopefully see a variety in games.

Yep, thats the key hogs, variety, which only comes with longevity.

As i ask of the others, please write your simple box scores down and pop them up as you play to see how things pan out for you.

Its kind of a standard adjustment everyone uses and with that setting it makes All OF different as it should be , just to much power and too many get thrown out 1b to 3b .
Just something to keep in mind if runners are getting cut down by juan pierre .
When did you finally get the Game ?

yeah its little things like guys not trying to stretch single to doubles .
I mainly put it down as youll also see some hard hits off the OF wall and hell be out at second but your contact and hu power are lower then mine so who knows ?
Well have great year , good to see you back

Here are a couple of box scores from last night, these games couldn't be more different.

                            Game 1 vs Philly

                            Braves 3 7 0
                            Phillies 0 6 0

Notables - Matt Cain 7 IP, 11 K's, Grady Sizemore 2-3 HR, BB, and a SB

                            Game 2 vs Philly

                            Braves 1 3 3
                            Phillies 4 4 0

Notables - Myers 8.2 IP, 8 k's....Hudson had a no hitter going in the 6th before falling apart with the help of his defense. Dobbs hit a 2 run homer to break up the no no and the Phils never looked back.

Getting ready to play game 3 now, I'll post box scores after I finish up the National Series.

I tried to lower the arm speed myself but it seems like the ball floats to much and doesnt look real, I am having good results with 5 and the fielder speed down!

Only thing i dont really agree with is raising the CPU power. They allready hit too many HRs. I actually lowered mine to 4. Everything else sounds good.
NBA2K is the standard of sports games period.
