Re: ***The 'Perfect' Slider Set*** MLB 09 - The Show

I'm getting ready to post some more box scores, I'm wrapping up a six game home stand and getting ready to head out on the road for a 9 game road trip. Here is the box scores from the homestand.

      Nationals - 1 3 0
      Braves - 2 4 0

      Nationals - 2 6 0
      Braves - 3 9 0

14 inning affair in this one

      Nationals - 4 6 0
      Braves - 2 8 1

      Marlins - 2 10 1
      Braves - 6 5 1

      Marlins - 6 9 2
      Braves - 7 12 1

12 inning affair, was losing 6-5 in the 9th. Ludwick hit a homer to tie it and Escobar hit a solo shot in the 12 to win it.

      Marlins - 10 18 0
      Braves - 1 8 1

So that's a pretty good variety of scores there, a 4-2 homestand. Some extra inning thrillers, some crushing defeats as well.

Now I head out to Pittsburgh to start this long road trip.

I love this game, I think I'm addicted.

Oh another important thing about fielder Reaction at 10 and Ill drop it forever , YOU or the cpu will find it very hard to be able to drop a bunt for a hit , havent done it yet . The fielders just react too fast although I did see a throwing error by the cpu after many hours of playing.
But I guess in REAL baseball players like Suzuki ,Figgins , Reyes, Pierre ,Roberts, Furcal , Ellsbury, Crisp , Damon ,Sizemore, Granderson, Victorino and Taveras never get on with a bunt to start a rally or rattle a pitcher nobody can hit to get something started .

On a lighter note Bravesfan Im getting 0 power , nothing deep and 0 Homeruns in 5 playoff games granted the pitchers are very good and they start strong .
I only get good wood when they are getting tired or roughed up .
So is this when your getting your HRs ? does anyone even get any random ones when the pitchers are going strong , I know I gave a few up not a knock just wondering what others are seeing as my timing is pretty poor on off speed stuff
Ok I used powerswing and got 2 with Either and Manny late in the game ? I prefer not to use it but if anyone does i would like your thoughts as I always consider it a cheat , risk reward seems kind of realistic, Thanks

I never really used the Guess Pitch function, so does disabling it have any effect other than removing the feature?
OFF and i dont think the GP feature has any other effect no.

They work good but im playing veteran in playoffs , i did notice my swings have less power on veteran intil the cpu pitcher gets tired or less confidence .

Great set again Psycho had a hell of a game last night against the Rockies with my reds, up 5-3 Top of the 9 Johnny Gomes hits a pinch hit 3 run HR and Cordero comes in to close out the Rockies 1,2,3 in the bottom of the 9th. Comeback AI LOL

8-3 win for the Reds I will post box score later tonight after work.

Re: ***The 'Perfect' Slider Set*** MLB 09 - The Show

Are you guys seeing enough offense from the CPU? I am using these sliders with a few exceptions:

                CPU Contact: 4
                CPU Power: 8
                CPU Timing: 4
                CPU Fouls: 6
                Solid Hits: 5

                Hum Control: 3
                Hum Pitch Consistency: 3

                Currently I've played 20 games with these settings and I am third in ERA. I win most games by a score of 5 to 2, 3 to 2, 4 to 3, 2 to 1, etc;

I keep the ball low and I always check a hitters hot/cold zones.

Also, these stats could be a little premature...I haven't really played any heavy hitting teams yet in my franchise (I am the Mets). So far I've played the Pirates (terrible offense), the Marlins (better than the Pirates, but not much), the Padres (just walk Adrian Gonzalez), the Nationals (just be careful with Adam Dunn and Zimmerman), and the Braves (without Chipper - he is on the DL in my franchise).

Could be that, wait till you have played the Cubs/Dodgers/Phils etc, but do report back, good feedback, thanks.

In my franchise the Cubs have a 20 game winning streak...Can you imagine that?

They'll have the division wrapped up before June...

Rockies had one as they made their way to the classic only a few years ago. 20 odd games wasnt it?

The A's did that too in 2002. They won something like 20 or 21 straight games. I remember it because over that stretch, the Angels went something like 18-2, and it made for a great race.

Can you imagine winning 20 in a row, and only gaining 2 games in the standings? lol. Or even worse, looking at it the other way, as an Angels fan it was annoying to be so ridiculously hot but end up losing 2 games in the standings.

Yes. I got blown out by the Orioles last night 11-1.
None of my pitchers could do anything right. Behind every hitter, pitches missing their targets resulting in a lot of hits. Mostly my fault though as when I start getting rocked I tend to lose focus and just start throwing meatballs over the plate.

Re: ***The 'Perfect' Slider Set*** MLB 09 - The Show

Doris on your question about the power. I haven't seen the problem you are experiencing. I've hit homers in the 1st and in the middle innings. The one's I posted in my last box score occured vs fresh relievers, the Ludwick one occurred against the closer when he just hung a slider. I never ever use the power swing.

Just be patient, this game more than any other is one where hitters go through hot stretches and slumps. If you don't see any in a 2 week span don't worry about it. Just work on your hitting and try to work the count and make the pitcher lay you a fat one. One thing I've really noticed, if you get behind in the count you aren't going to hit many homers. The pitcher is going to throw you a lot of junk pitches. Most homeruns occur on 3-0, 3-1, and 2-1 counts. Although the Ludwick homer I mentioned did a occur on a 1-2 pitch but like I said he just hung a slider in my eyes and I jumped all over it. It was exciting.

Also as an aside, I just saw a bunt single from the computer with Fielder reaction at 10. Remember I use auto fielding.

Psycho, as soon as I finish this game with the Bucs I'll give you my stats. If I can hang on I'll be 6-4, I don't think my average and ERA is that good though. I don't know how I'm winning but I'll post the stats in a few minutes.

One thing I did have to do was go down on throwing errors like you mentioned earlier. I also lowered fielding errors down a notch to default. Escobar just throws to many balls into the seats and boots to many balls in the field, at this rate he's going to have 50 errors on the season. I also lowered SB Frequency another notch to 4 (-1). I'm just seeing a lot of stupid SB attempts by the computer that takes them out of innings.
