With solid hits at 0 do you still get hard hit balls, long-distance home runs, etc.?
How are people liking the default sliders so far?

Re: How are people liking the default sliders so far?
I feel like i see more opposite field bloopers and dribblers/choppers.
The slider description itself states that it affects batting averages.
And yea I still hit homeruns. A perfectly timed hit with good contact will still yield homeruns. As for the CPU, trust me, I still give up bombs, lol.Comment

For me though it plays incredibly well.Originally posted by Anthony BourdainThe celebrity chef culture is a remarkable and admittedly annoying phenomenon. Re: How are people liking the default sliders so far?
I also like All-Star default so far. I have guess pitch and swing influence turned off, and I pitch with the meter from the outfield view with the pitching marker off. I also have confidence on.
I feel like it plays so close to the experience I want that I'm reluctant to change it. After 7 games in my Cubs franchise, I'm hitting .291 and in the top 10 for homers and doubles without dominating. I could stand to draw a few more walks but that's more of a user issue as I still swing at too many bad pitches. I'm also walking quite a good number of batters, partly because the meter from the outfield cam is a lot harder to use and partly because I have a house rule that I have to aim and can't groove fastballs down the middle. I also will throw a non-fastball if my catcher calls for it with 3 balls (a nice randomizer to help me throw more walks).
My only concern is that I just shut the CPU out in back-to-back games. However, that was with Zambrano and Dempster, who both got hit pretty well in their first starts. I'll keep pitching as is for another series and, if I start dominating too much, take that up to Legend.Comment

Re: How are people liking the default sliders so far?
I'm going to go back and try default sliders for a little while with 2 adjustments.
Solid hits at 0 and CPU strikes at 0.
I think I'm spending too much time trying to fix things with sliders that don't need-a-fixin'.Comment

Re: How are people liking the default sliders so far?
So I have restarted my season, with the latest SCEA roster update which was from 4/3. It's close enough for opening day rosters for me and any changes I can make myself.
Anyway, using entirely default all star sliders except for Reliever stamina is now at 3, pickoffs are at 3 and manager hook is at 6 the verdict after just 2 games is a positive one.
Came back in game 1 to beat Boston on a bases clearing triple by Jeter in the 8th. Cameron dove for a ball (why in a close game in the 8th he's laying out is beyond me) and missed it. It rolled to the wall for the 3 run triple. Rivera came on for a 1-2-3 9th with 2 K's.
Game 2 was 1-0 Boston into the 4th. I got 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs and Granderson struck out. Boston came back and scored 3 the next inning to make it 4-0. Burnett was good for me, and the singles he gave up for those 3 runs weren't really hit all that hard. Rather routine singles so the ever feared solid hits slider didn't seem to matter.
I got a 2 run HR by Thames next inning, they got a sac fly in the 8th and I hit into inning ending DP's in the 8th and 9th.
Everything felt real smooth. Even when I was giving up hits it felt alright. I didn't feel cheated as I know I was having location problems. The hits I got felt good, I hit one off the Monster with Rodriguez and he was thrown out trying for a double, but Jeter later in the game hit almost the same spot and was safe as the throw was a little off line. I also hit one over Drew's head for a ground rule double. I don't think I had seen an OF get burned until that hit.
I walked 3 times each game which was a good sign for me.
Even though it was just 2 games I have to say I am quite impressed at the way this game plays on default.Last edited by BleacherCreature; 04-06-2010, 05:35 PM.Comment

That's good to hear BleacherCreature (haha, feels funny typing that). The game does play well out of the box because it's supposed to, heh. I think people get so carried away with sliders that they act like the game is completely wrong at default.
Sliders are there for us to make tweaks here and there as we see fit, to adjust to our skill levels. Nothing wrong with default, and nothing wrong with having everything maxed, everything minimum, or anything in between. You will see a good game of baseball overall regardless.Comment

Re: How are people liking the default sliders so far?
All star for both hitting and pitching.
Just had another good one with these. Beat Boston 5-2. 3 perfect innings from Pettitte, with 2 K's and all ground outs except for one popup. Gave up a double to Youk, and another double next inning to Pedroia. Got in a little trouble in the 6th with a walk to Cameron, a single by Scutaro, I hit Elsbury then gave up an RBI single to Youk. Bases still loaded I got Martinez to hit into a DP for the second run, then got Drew on a weak grounder. Rivera gave up a hit later in the 9th but got the save without much drama.
5 runs 11 hits 0 errors for me, 2, 6 and 1 for the Sox.
Seeing a lot of hit variety even with solid hits at 5.
The game flows so much better for me on default.Last edited by BleacherCreature; 04-07-2010, 03:34 PM.Comment
