So will you be keeping the fielder & base runner speeds both at 0? Could you tell me who did you use to test the running speeds? Don't need to elaborate to save your time, I just want to see how you decided. I feel fielder speed at zero might be a bit too slow, so I wanna know what you think.

      Re: Bobhead's Sliders

In all honesty my testing was pretty half-assed. I wasn't worried about getting perfect results, I just tested to make sure a speed of 0 was in the ballpark of real-life speeds.

I played an exhibition game between Mets and Phillies. As the Mets, I threw pitches down the middle until they were hit in the outfield, and made my outfield dive all over the place to turn it into an inside-the-park HR. I let them score, then I paused it and watched the replay, starting my stopwatch (stopwatch app, techinically) when the runner crossed first base, and stopping it when the runner crossed second.

I can't remember my exact times but they were roughly 3.3 seconds for the faster runners (Rollins, Polanco), which, I know from random ESPN and in-game (as in, a real life game) commentary segments, is a pretty appropriate time.

As a tidbit, Prince Fielder's inside-the-parker the other day took him a little over 4 seconds, with ~17 seconds total around the bases.

I will probably do more accurate tests eventually but I'd much rather pull my team out of last place in franchise mode first

Thanks Bobhead. I didn't mean to push you to do more accurate tests or anything though. I wanted to know how things compare within a ballpark range as well. Slower speeds definitely look more real and I love it. Just wanted to know how much leeway we may have in the speed department to get xbh proportions right for myself. Thanks again for sharing info.

          Re: Bobhead's Sliders

I'm seeing a few too many cases where runners don't beat out bunts or infield singles, so I think I'm going to go ahead and keep Baserunning speed at 1, which now makes me wonder. Does the game not use the same speed engine for both baserunners and fielders? It seems like Jose Reyes runs a lot faster with a glove on his hand, than he does on the bases.

I'm still keeping fielder speed at 0, though, at least for now.

I am going to be giving your sliders a try since you are using the same modes of control that I use and you seem to be very deliberate a thoughtful about what you use and making sure it matches up to the RL game which I love. I just wanted to let you know that I feel the same as you do, that the speed of guys with the glove on seems to be faster then with it off. Completely ridiculous I know but it is there.

              Re: Bobhead's Sliders

I'm still on the fence with the fielder/runner speed at 0, but other than that, I think I can call it a set now. I made a couple of other changes, notably that I lowered Power (my logic for raising it was based on Fielder Speed being at 2, wasn't really necessary anymore), and raised CPU Pitch Control. I might come back and raise speed back to 1, but other than that, I assure you there won't be anymore changes.

              Enjoy.

Can these play on AS diff with Timing hitting and Classic pitching?

                  Re: Bobhead's Sliders

Lol you can try, I can't make any promises! I don't even know how classic pitching works to be quite honest. On the other side, I can tell you that Timing hitting generally requires a higher Solid Hits setting than Zone or Analog, because of the lack of user input, so I definitely recommend you use a 4 there. Other than that I don't see why these sliders won't work for you offensively.

For the pitching side you will just have to play it out and see, although I'd advise you to just find someone who uses classic pitching. I think a user named Thias uses classic pitching, and he has sliders posted somewhere on the first page. Use his pitch control/consistency settings, and just combine it with whatever else you decide to use.

                    Re: Bobhead's Sliders

Just played a hell of a game against the New York Yankees, the box score can be found at the bottom. Definitely happy with the set now. The only thing that I feel still kind of needs tweaking is the balance between Timing and Foul Frequency. The issue is that I am trying to get the right amount of hits down the line, and 5/1 is working well, but I like how a Timing of 6 feels a lot better, and haven't found the right Foul Freq to go with it.

Anyway the below game was played with what is listed above, and as it stands, that's the "official" set.

Surprisingly enough, the game played out a pitcher's duel. James Shields was struggling with command, but he had some good stuff, and I was able to get outs when I needed them. The only reason the Yankees weren't shutout was because Jeter beat out a near-double play in the 8th, when a runner was on 3rd... that's the type of game it was. I was in trouble practically every inning, but was able to pitch out of jams and Shields ended up going 6 innings, which isn't bad for a starter against the Yanks.

I left several runners on base also, most notably in the 3rd inning, when Longoria flied out (just missed a HR! I was late) with RISP

Here are some random statistics about the game, they don't go in the box score but I felt they are still important in demonstrating how games play out:

                    Tampa Bay Rays
                    Balls Fouled off: 14
                    Intentional Walks Drawn: 0
                    Runners Left on Base: 8

                    New York Yankees
                    Balls Fouled Off: 16
                    Intentional Walks Drawn: 1
                    Runners Left on Base: 13

Bobhead, do you move th PCI, or leave it in the middle.... I'm looking for a new slider set. I usually use timing hitting, and thinking of trying to do zone, but don't know if I can keep up with moving the stick and swinging.

I move the PCI. It definitely takes practice, but I don't like the idea of letting the game decide when I get a hit and when I don't.

                            Bobhead,

I'm definitely going to give your sliders a shot tonight after work. I was using TNK/PB's exclusively for awhile, but I'm now looking into other sets more for a new look than anything else. TNK's were good, don't get me wrong, but pitching for me was a little easy (even on HOF), and my hitting was abysmal (not often I get to use that word). I've always had trouble striking out, which I believe is part slider choice, and an even bigger part my fault. I've tried several hitting cameras (most of the catchers), but pretty much any offspeed pitch low in the zone will get me.

I'm interested in trying your sliders because of the insight that you have provided in these forums. I'm pretty confident in the fact that when you set a slider at a particular value (even if it is drastically different from other sets), there is a valid reason behind it.

The thing that kind of scares me, because of my issue with strikeouts, is Human Contact at 4. With TNK's, I was striking out between 7-10 times a game, and his was set at default (5). I recently switched over to CHD's sliders, who has his Contact slider at 4, and I've been striking out between 10-15 times a game, which is overwhelmingly frustrating!!!
My fear is that I will continue to strikeout at this horrible rate, which ends up sucking pretty much all of the fun from my life, LOL. I understand that I haven't even tried the sliders yet, so I'll just have to wait and see. But do you think that raising the Human Contact up to 5 or 6 will affect the overall value of the set as a whole?

Lastly, I had the same question about Zone Hitting. I recently switched over from Timing (on All-Star) to Zone Hitting, because Psychobulk suggested that it provided better hit variety even without moving the L-Stick. I've been doing that, and having slightly above-average results. I was planning on using the same method versus using Timing with your sliders, and I wanted to get your opinions on that.

Sorry for the long post. Sliders get me all fired up and whatnot.

Not at all. If you were using Timing or Analog, Contact would have a bigger effect on the game. In Zone hitting however, the PCI's location is strictly based on user input, and the only thing the Contact slider affects is your range. Feel free to increase it to your liking, nothing else will really change much.

I'm not a big fan of that, but it certainly works. You will need fully practice using Contact Swing though, to increase your range, and to foul off more pitches. I really don't have much to offer in the way of that method, the only things that come to mind are that I'd increase Foul Frequency up some more - since I have it lowered in my set - Otherwise all that center swinging will result in a lot of pop ups and ground outs.

I don't mind long posts at all. I actually prefer the thoroughness, it makes it a lot easier to understand where a poster is coming from, and how to answer their questions. It's the one-liners that really irk me

Going to give these sliders a try, intrigued by the fielder speed, baserunner speed settings as I feel something is off with that at default. Been practicing on zone hitting and I think I'm ready to make the switch, Timing hitting is just driving me mad.
