      Re: Bobhead's Sliders

The Baserunning thing was a mistake (just edited it). I have the sliders on a word document and sometimes when I'm testing random things I forget that it was only a test, and update the document without realizing.

The Pitcher Sliders were changed because I felt my pitchers' confidence was consistently too unreliable. I had reduced it to increase rallies by the CPU but at 2 I was getting them left and right

The drop in Pitch Control was just to offset the above Consistency increase, since otherwise I'd also fewer balls thrown, and walks/strike% were fine already.

          Re: Bobhead's Sliders

I can't help but wonder why you would turn solid hits DOWN. According to the description, turning it up decreases the frequency of cheap outs like weak pop ups and slow rollers. I turned it up before and saw the difference.

I just played a game using these sliders though. I only scored two runs on six hits. One was a homer, the other scored on a wild pitch. The other five hits I had were cheap singles. I still struck out eight times. I know I can't judge based on one game, but it doesn't look good for me so far.

Like many others on this forum, I am getting increasingly frustrated with this game. I've been messing around with the sliders for a month span in my season and can't get good, consistent results. I even went down to veteran hitting and I still can't hit.

I just don't understand it. This is my first time playing the Show for PS3. The last version of the Show I bought was '09 for PS2. I loved that game for the most part. My team batting average was consistently in the low .300s and I had no problem with it because I rarely ever walked. I figured all the extra hits (mostly singles) I had made up for the lack of walks. My power numbers were normal as well. I NEVER had to tweak the sliders in that game. Now I get this game for the first time and I can't find any way to replicate my play for the PS2 game.

You just answered your own question, I lowered it to increase those. Just because you are bad at hitting, doesn't mean everyone else is, too.

I enjoy these sliders a good deal, but I'm having a hard time striking out the CPU. I'm only getting 4-6 per game most of the time, occasionally just 2-3. It's not like I'm giving up a ton of runs but K's are hard to come by.

                  Re: Bobhead's Sliders

                  Bob,

Haven't got a chance to try the updated sliders as of yet, but I'm hoping to get a few games in tonight, since I'm poor and can't afford to go out.

I've been giving some more thought to Zone Hitting, and I have some questions for you. If you recall, my hitting strategy has been to use the Zone Hitting interface, but I do not move the PCI, which basically equates to Timing. However, based on the amount that I've continued to strikeout using Zone, I'm starting to believe more and more that it has to do with the fact that I'm only swinging with the PCI being in the middle of the plate. Therefore, any pitches that are on the corners or down in the zone (especially those dreaded changeups), I'm wiffing on every single time. I've gotten to the point now where my overwhelmingly frequent strikeouts are killing the game for me.

The questions I have about Zone Hitting are in regards to the actual use of the interface.

Do you track the ball from the pitchers hand and move the PCI accordingly?

                  Or....

Do you move the PCI to a pre-selected zone where you think the pitcher will be throwing the ball (which would esentially be Guess-Pitch using the PCI)?

I know these are probably considered to be very trivial questions, but it's something that I've been wondering about since you responded to my last post. Again, I haven't been able to play the game in a few days, so I obviously haven't had a chance to try out either of these strategies. I'm just trying to get some suggestions/feedback from you on how you use this system.

I'll try the Zone Hitting for awhile in practice mode to see if I get the hang of it. If I don't, I was wondering if you would have any suggestions for your sliders using Timing hitting. I've been reading that the Timing system on All-Star and HOF difficulties is broken?

Also....just for kicks....what hitting camera are you using?

                  Thanks Again!

                    Is this true?
I thought the only thing broken (out of pure frustration) were my controllers.

I've been seeing the same thing. 4-6 is actually better than me, 4 or 5 comes on a good day, but for the most part I get through the game on random singles/walks that turn into double plays. I've been playing around with some solutions - right now I'm testing CPU Contact at 3 (down from 4), my only concern here is I want to make sure it doesn't hurt the CPU offense too much. I am also going to try a Pitch Control of 5, to see how that plays out.

Anyway its going to be a while before I make any official changes, but Contact will probably be reduced to 3, because I'm not too keen on giving myself better Pitch Control, so you can go ahead and make that change if you need to.

The thing that troubles me the most with this is I'm not a strikeout pitcher anyway. Even with easier difficulties/sliders, I make a habit of just pitching in the strike zone, and to contact, so I've never really had more than 8 K's a game anyway, making it really hard to compare.

That's not an issue for me, I average about 4-5 doubles a game (in games I win) and one of my players, Ben Zobrist, is 5th in the majors for Doubles hit. Try getting under the ball more (hold the pci slightly below the target location), and try waiting on a pitch or swinging a bit early, to put it in the gap, instead of up the middle.

To answer your question about zone placement, both, but I'd recommend not making a habit out of guessing though. I just track the ball out of the pitcher's hand 90% of the time. Takes some practice but its definitely possible.

In hitter's counts, or with a slugger at the plate, I sometimes do the "guess" thing, and sit on a pitch inside or low, so that I have time to pull it and drive it somewhere. I make a habit of only allowing myself to guess once or twice per at-bat, though, because you can rack up a lot of strikeouts this way. Can't tell you how many 3 pitch strikeouts I've gotten because I was expecting a certain pitch, and ended up swinging at 3 pitches out of the zone because they all kind of looked like that pitch I was expecting. Definitely not a good habit to have, and I definitely think that just following the ball will work much better for you.

Timing hitting is not broken. I honestly don't have the patience for it myself, I prefer having my fate rest in my own hands, but it is definitely a fully functional system, that many people happily use.

I believe users Coreyheartsdaughter and Heroesandvillians both use the Timing system, so I'd take a trip into their thread(s) for some more definitive info, but you will need to make a increases to the offensive sliders, particularly, on the Solid Hits slider, since it's up to the CPU to decide when you get a hit (assuming you have good timing, of course). Everything else can easily be left alone, but like I said, I'd check with them first, since they are a lot more experienced than I, especially with Timing hitting.

                            Re: Bobhead's Sliders

I think I've found a good balance for HOF pitching sliders. I just played a game with the Reds and I wound up with this line:

                            Volquez: 6 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 6 BB (1 intentional), 4 K

Bullpen struck out 2 more guys in the final 3 frames. I dropped CPU contact a point, while raising their solid hits and power a point each. This way they will really punish your mistakes. If you don't like to pitch around power guys these sliders aren't for you probably.

                              Re: Bobhead's Sliders

Thats funny because I was planning on making similar changes before I saw that. I didn't raise SH, but I lowered CPU Contact to increase CPU strikeouts, and increased CPU Power as compensation.

HUM Pitch Control was increased. No particular reason, but based on my games, it just seemed a bit excessive at 2. At 4 you will still be able to hit your spots occasionally, if your pitcher is having a good day, where as at 2 every game was a struggle, and I felt that was a bit too extreme.

Put both Staminas back up to 6 where I had them in the first place. Not sure why I brought it down in the first place, to be honest.

Also finally decided on a perma set of fielder sliders. I was getting too many too many balls hit deep into Shorstop that then became successful Derek Jeter plays, when in real life you have your 4 or 5 guys per team that are fast enough to beat it out. 1 point wasn't enough, so I went with 2 and a 1 point increase to throw speed as well. Ideally I would have liked to just increase BR speed 1 point and lower Fielder Speed 1 point, but since the latter is at 0 already, that isn't possible, so yeah.

Also. Pitched a complete game shutout today. I'm 57 games into my season and this was both my first complete game AND my first shutout.

At this point in the season, I am 27-30. My ERA is 4.27, and my BA is .241.

Evan Longoria is leading the majors in Home runs (Adrian Gonzalez was in first, but he's injured now :P), with 21. This wasn't always the case, he caught fire recently and I was getting multi-HR games with him left and right, especially up in Toronto.

Ben Zobrist is 2nd in the majors in Doubles with 18.
