Re: TNK - 2012 Realism Sliders Thread

Last night I experimented and moved the solid hits slider to 2. I know it sounds crazy but what this really does is make balls of the bat look more realistic. I found that on 3, while there was some variety there I just felt like I was hitting everything so hard. Changing this to 2 has increase soft soft liners and slow bloops and some more majestic looking hits. I highly recommend you try it for a series. I still had good power too, had five HR's in three games as well as a smattering of doubles

Here is the key though. You gotta use Zone hitting and be able to square up pretty good. In zOne hitting you are creating your own destiny.

I've had it. Absolutely had it. If I don't start scoring more than 2-3 runs in games I'm gonna put this game on the shelf and leave it there for good. This was never a problem in any other Show game in the past. I have no enjoyment whatsoever playing this game anymore. It's becoming nothing but a headache and I'm sick of it. No reason that Tim Stauffer of all people should still be in the game in the 6th inning at 120 pitches. What's that all about?

I increased the timing slider and I get hits left and right. I am actually thinking about dropping it back to default. If increasing the timing doesn't help then I don't know what to tell you.

Getting hits isn't the issue. It's scoring runs. Every single game with the exeption of 1 or 2 games has been 2-3 runs a game or less. Not to mention when I do get hits they are always singles anyway pretty much. 10 hits in that game I played earlier. 9 of them singles.

I used the sliders from TNK/PsychoBulk last year and didn't have this problem. I went 109-53 in my season and it played great. Not this year. I've played well over 20 games too. I've had absolutely 0 fun factor with this game. I hate saying that too.

I used the sliders from TNK/PsychoBulk last year and didn't have this problem. I went 109-53 in my season and it played great. Not this year. I've played well over 20 games too. I've had absolutely 0 fun factor with this game. I hate saying that too.
              Philliesfan,

Do you track any of your in game stats or have them written down anywhere?

I REALLY want for you to succeed, and I'll help if I can. But as a slider guy, I (TNK too) need to know what you're experiencing.

When I started doing my own sliders, I began to track my stats in the same method that I'm currently tracking for my CPU sliders. Essentially, I play a large number of games (generally on Default, minus pitch speed) tracking R, H, E, 2B, 3B, HR, SB, CS, BB, SO, Fouls, Chased pitches, and Misses.

After 20 games, I compare my numbers to the real life numbers. And adjust my sliders from there.

I know this doesn't sound "fun." But the payoff is huge. Seriously, 2-3 weeks of tracking turns into literally 11 months of pure joy.

We all have different abilities and reaction times. This is why I believe it's dangerous to use anyone else's slider sets. They weren't made for you, regardless of whether or not you had luck using someone's last year.

My CPU tracking shows me that if the User is using an appropriate difficulty and interface for themselves, realistic stats are attainable. SCEA programs this game to make anything the CPU can do attainable to the User, and vice versa. I've "seen" games where 30 plus runs have crossed the plate.

However, the AI's desire to throw balls drastically seems to decrease as difficulty level decreases (and this varies from my CPU games). Specifically meaning Default Rookie and Veteran. Therefore; and this goes for any difficulty level, you may need to drop Consistency and Pitch Speed to be able to recognize pitches in a way that resembles the CPU more. I have to, and I'm fine with that (seriously, I can't stress how key Pitch Speed is here).

Anyway, PM me if you want.

No, I haven't tracked any of my stats. I've been playing all exhibition games. I have pitch speed on 3. I'm thinking I may just go back to default everything except pitch speed. I've played two games on default and both of them seemed more realistic to me than with sliders. I feel like I'm in "slider hell" this year. One thing I have no problem with is drawing walks and working pitch counts. I'm able to have a really good amount of full-count at-bats, and I'm able to draw 3-4 walks a game as well.

I think starting back at Default (for you, not for everyone else enjoying the great sliders in here) is a great idea.

I will say this, hitting is much harder this year. I hit .260 with SF last year on HOF Default (Timing). In my last 10 games on AS, I'm hitting like .240. LOL! But I just went through a tough stretch against some very good pitchers (Wilson, E. Santana, Price, etc). I've actually recently began to look at the pitching analysis screen to start trying to recognize CPU pitching patterns, and even using Guess Pitch/Location a few times per inning to give me a leg up (which I have no qualms in using ocassionally because the CPU Guess Pitches me).

Also, if you're constantly between the "good/perfect/just late" spectrum on fastballs that you're looking for (meaning never or hardly ever "just early" or "early" on fastballs when you're looking fastball...I'd say between 90mph-93mph as any faster *should* be difficult to get around on), that almost certainly means the Pitch Speed is too fast.

I'm on Default (minus consistency dropped and a few global slider changes that mirror the CPU tests) and having a blast. That's not to sat that TNK didn't make some very sound changes! But no one is him and or had his TV, or sits in his chair, or has his exact baseball competence. Everyone should consider that before questioning the sliders. They do work; but for TNK. And I'm sure he'd agree with me.

It must be this then. Like I said, I've never had these issues in the previous Show games. Thanks for your suggestions.

That wasn't my key point. And I didn't mean to make it an absolute. Just a few games ago I won 11-0. I've scored over 5 runs three times over my last ten game. I just was practically shutout (not actually, but practically) three games in a row. That can make any game feel hard and any 10 game stretch look offensively weak.

Trust me, it isn't. I've absolutely raked quite a few times this year. And I will say this: 12 is the most balanced version of this series' outings that I've ever played! The stats are beautiful (both in played and CPU games).

Best game I've had in a lonnnnng time. This was a complete duel on the mound. I wanted to try out my recent draft pick in Gilmartin and must say he showed out. He worked his way out of a bases loaded, 0 out jam and pitched 6 scoreless innings.

CPU pitched a hell of a game as well. Some of the success came from my lack of patience at the plate thus far. I will say that I was late on a looooooot of pitches. I'm gonna try some more games at the current pitch speed and see if it gets better. For some reason the stride it forces you to make (im using analog hitting) starts a bit late.

I remember playing baseball and i always started my stride when the ball was around the pitcher's ear (still in hand). I swear in order to get a perfect on the stride indicator I have to pull back on the stick when the ball is coming out lol.

FWIW, I can't score runs either. Most I've had is 2 runs in a game, both of solo home runs. I can't say for sure if this is the game itself or its me, as a newcomer to the series. I'm going to keep pounding away in spring training to see if I can get it down.

I did have a moment this morning where I thought for sure I was playing an EA Sports game. I was up 2-1 in the 8th, brought in my setup guy. All of a sudden my defense was making errors. Dodgers hit a single then attempted steal - and my catcher overthrew the 2B and they take 3rd. Next batter gets base hit and its tied. Eventually they get 2nd and 1st with two outs then, inexplicably, my 2B makes an errant throw to 1st. Now I'm getting pissed because it totally felt like 'catch-up' CPU tactics. To top it off, bounding ball to 2B and he just has to flip to SS to get out of the inning and somehow their baserunner goes from 1st to 2nd and beats the flip! Talk about cheese.

Tried these sliders today and while pitching feels pretty good so far, i cant get any hits. Played three games as the Indians(me) vs Astros(cpu) and W. Rodrigiuz pitched a perfect game all three games. I was patient at the plate, got 2-3 walks per game, but had 10-12 outs due to pop-ups across three games, and numerous foul tips caught by the catcher. All my balls put into play were weak grounders. So out of frustration i ran these sliders on rookie difficulty with the same teams and almost batted around in the first inning, scoring 4 runs in 5 at bats. I know the evidence is only from 4 games but its pretty consistant, any suggestions?

I loved your slider set for the show 11, thanks for all the hard work.

I've notice hints of comeback logic myself, I know they used to have a slider or toggle for it but it's no longer in the game at least at the slider level. Does make me wonder at times though.

The hits and runs are there - but I feel like this years game gives you less margin for error and you have to wait for your pitch and captialize when you get it.

Look at my recent boxscores.....I was getting runs on Homeruns for a stretch, now my last two games I have put up 10+ hits in each and scored 5 runs per game without a HR.

ZONE HITTING and swinging at good pitches = you will hit and score
